    Ill try to explain the Tywin Shae thing as they go into much more detail in the books about it. Tywins father was a fool who among many disgraceful things kept a whore in his household after his wife (Tywins mother) died and paraded her around in his late wife’s jewels. Tywin had the woman brutally killed after his father’s death. Then Tywin does the same with Shae giving her the Hand’s official chain, which Tyrion chokes her with. So basically it’s some twisted fantasy thing where he does what he hated his father for to Tyrion. It wasn’t some conspiracy

    • @tanimal3964
      @tanimal3964 3 месяца назад

      Did he have her killed? I thought he just had her publicly flogged and run out of town or something. After that he hated whores and so seeing him with Shae was a surprise.

      Charles Dance is really charismatic but it kills me when the very same fans who absolutely dunk on Cersei worship Tywin. He's basically responsible for bringing up Cersei, and even if you think that Tywin is more intelligent than her, they have a lot in common in regards to cruelty and such. Tywin also allied himself with the lowest of low, Boltons and Freys, whom the fans hate but they still think Tywin is great.

    Finally someone who put respect on Renly Baratheon! If not for shadow baby he would have won EASILY. I may be wrong but i think he had the biggest numbers in the history if this universe (expect for the wildling army which was something the same size). I've read some comment a long time ago that in the books Renly said to Catelyn that the Martells will be joining him in some time (I believe it was 20000 more people) So he would have 120 000 people in his army if this is true

    • @slipknot95maggot
      @slipknot95maggot 3 месяца назад +3

      Big Renly. Of the main presented options in the show at that point I honestly have a hard time understanding why people don't side with Renly. He's not my distilled perfection ideal fantasy king if I had to list every imaginable quality I'm sure, but between Cersei, Joffrey, Littlefinger's plots, Ned, Stannis, etc etc like Renly out here casually knowing everybody with him by first and last name he's lowkey like what if Robert wasn't so Robert. He just wants to hang out with his fake wife watching fights. But he's not aloof and drunk about it, it's an actual gathering that brings people together for mirth and whatnot. Ned just wants to go home, Cersei and Joffrey are obvi fuqqed, and LF just don't even listen to that mans. And at that point like who tf is Stannis all I've heard is nobody likes him and even Ned doesn't deny it. The line of succession is already fuqqed like seven times over I don't care about that. Renly is right here, he's close enough to be "next in line" if you squint, and he seems dope. And like the people with him and happy. Def give me that kid. None of the main options are perfect. I can't just seat Varys so like what do you want from me. I pick Renly, easy

    The thing about ser Alliser Thorne is that he was sent to the wall because in Robert's Rebellion he was fighting on the targaryens side. On Shae and Tywin since they're both dead. In the books, When Tyrion comes to King's Landing with Shae, He keeps her in a house away from the red keep (the actual castle where the iron throne is) and has people take care of her. Obviously he couldn't just take a leisurely stroll to do whatever with her or else his father and everyone else would have found out so he learns about one of the tunnels in the tower of the hand that leads to a building (not sure if it's a brothel or a tavern I can't remember off the top of my head) and he visits her that way (traveling by night to be extra careful). Everyone knows about the secret tunnels that Maegor created (at least the viewer/reader does) but Maegor was king, not the hand of the king. So a popular theory (might already be confirmed and not a theory at all) is that it was Tywin who actually built that tunnel from the Tower of the Hand in order to have whores visit him. Tywin was hand of the king for 20 years to the "Mad King" and the hand of the king after Tywin was Jon Arryn and then Ned Stark and both of those men were known to be honorable enough to not use them (even if they did know about them.) In short, Tywin is a massive hypocrite, He drinks and whores just like Tyrion does but can't let go of his hatred of Tyrion because of the fact that Tyrion is a dwarf and the fact that Tyrion "killed" his mother.

  • @darure
    @darure 3 месяца назад +1

    I mean I’m only guessing just like you, but to me it kinda makes sense we don’t see Shae with makeup after her introduction. The practical reasons are, they are trying to keep a low profile, and we don’t really see them “get down to business” a lot. When it happens on-screen, it’s kind of unplanned so it makes sense she wasn’t dolled up in those moments. Might be they didn’t really bother keeping up Shae’s makeup supply, might even risk more suspicion if it was noticed. For storytelling reasons, it might be just me but I find that people look more “friendly” and authentic without makeup. When we first meet Shae, she seems cool enough but she’s still a stranger. She then becomes part of Tyrion’s circle, his girlfriend essentially and Sansa’s trusted companion. To me the no-makeup look goes well together with that down-to-earth, caring persona of her for those episodes… And once we see her final scene and final betrayal, she is back in the gray makeup, kind of separating her from the character we used to see her as and making it easier for us to let her go.

    in the books Cersei sleeps with a bunch of different people while Jamie is missing but for some reason they didn't replace Lancel with the Kettleblacks, probably because they took a lot of Cersei's plotting out, which is saying something because even in the show she's a HUGE plotter

    @01:01:27: yes… and it is the same person who is actively pinning the murders on him… Littlefinger! For Bran, he says that the dagger used by the assassin belonged to him… and that he lost it to Tyrion in a bet. Now, more specifically, he says that he bet on Jaime and that Tyrion bet on his opponent. Knowing what we know of Tyrion and Jaime’s relationship at this stage, it seems very unlikely. So he blatantly lied. For Joffrey, he removed the poisoned necklace from Sansa on his boat, crushed the empty poison glass container to draw attention to it and threw it on Sir Dontos’ body. He knew that Dontos would be found, as well as the necklace and that both Sansa and Tyrion would be incriminated. As you say later in the vid, he needs to get rid of Tyrion to get Sansa for himself.

    The Hound has a line in S3 Ep5 where he says; ''Is being born Clegane a crime'', and to me it echoes in the Brienne scene. The Hound has this reputation of being this and that due to the terrible things he's been forced to do by his kings and for the terrible things Gregor has done. Sandor has no wish to hurt innocent people, in fact i think he became a Kingsguard to protect the innocent after everything that happened between him and Gregor(and their sister), Sandor wants to kill bullies like Gregor but in the end his tasks became far more grim due to the people he served.
    Sandor sort of hates himself for the things he's done, he's not proud of himself and through his own experiences learned that knights like him are not at all honorable as in the stories told to children. In the end; I think Sandor for once in his life wanted to some good and protect Sansa, he never does ofc but he does come across Arya and although he'd never admit it; I think he stays with her to protect her and not merely for the money as he keeps saying. And when Brienne comes along and hears Arya is with the hound she doesn't believe Sandor at all and that's beacuse of the reputation he has as this big bad wolf while in reality his heart's in the right place. However that isn't to say he's Christ or anything but he isnt trying to be either

  • @rookis25
    @rookis25 3 месяца назад +1

    Ser? My lady?" said Podrick. "Is a broken man an outlaw?"
    "More or less," Brienne answered.
    Septon Meribald disagreed. "More less than more. There are many sorts of outlaws, just as there are many sorts of birds. A sandpiper and a sea eagle both have wings, but they are not the same. The singers love to sing of good men forced to go outside the law to fight some wicked lord, but most outlaws are more like this ravening Hound than they are the lightning lord. They are evil men, driven by greed, soured by malice, despising the gods and caring only for themselves. Broken men are more deserving of our pity, though they may be just as dangerous. Almost all are common-born, simple folk who had never been more than a mile from the house where they were born until the day some lord came round to take them off to war. Poorly shod and poorly clad, they march away beneath his banners, ofttimes with no better arms than a sickle or a sharpened hoe, or a maul they made themselves by lashing a stone to a stick with strips of hide. Brothers march with brothers, sons with fathers, friends with friends. They've heard the songs and stories, so they go off with eager hearts, dreaming of the wonders they will see, of the wealth and glory they will win. War seems a fine adventure, the greatest most of them will ever know.
    Then they get a taste of battle.
    "For some, that one taste is enough to break them. Others go on for years, until they lose count of all the battles they have fought in, but even a man who has survived a hundred fights can break in his hundred-and-first. Brothers watch their brothers die, fathers lose their sons, friends see their friends trying to hold their entrails in after they've been gutted by an axe.
    "They see the lord who led them there cut down, and some other lord shouts that they are his now. They take a wound, and when that's still half-healed they take another. There is never enough to eat, their shoes fall to pieces from the marching, their clothes are torn and rotting, and half of them are shitting in their breeches from drinking bad water.
    "If they want new boots or a warmer cloak or maybe a rusted iron halfhelm, they need to take them from a corpse, and before long they are stealing from the living too, from the smallfolk whose lands they're fighting in, men very like the men they used to be. They slaughter their sheep and steal their chickens, and from there it's just a short step to carrying off their daughters too. And one day they look around and realize all their friends and kin are gone, that they are fighting beside strangers beneath a banner that they hardly recognize. They don't know where they are or how to get back home and the lord they're fighting for does not know their names, yet here he comes, shouting for them to form up, to make a line with their spears and scythes and sharpened hoes, to stand their ground. And the knights come down on them, faceless men clad all in steel, and the iron thunder of their charge seems to fill the world . . .
    And the man breaks.
    "He turns and runs, or crawls off afterward over the corpses of the slain, or steals away in the black of night, and he finds someplace to hide. All thought of home is gone by then, and kings and lords and gods mean less to him than a haunch of spoiled meat that will let him live another day, or a skin of bad wine that might drown his fear for a few hours. The broken man lives from day to day, from meal to meal, more beast than man. Lady Brienne is not wrong. In times like these, the traveler must beware of broken men, and fear them . . . but he should pity them as well."

    @37:03: Shae was not planted by Tywin. She betrayed Tyrion because she is a survivor. She truly loved him but he destroyed her when he broke up with her. He crushed her and made an enemy of her. When she is brought to Tywin, she goes into prostitute mode again and agrees to testify against Tyrion against gold / freedom probably.
    Now, I understand why everybody hates her, but I find it extremely unfair that Bronn, who is clearly the one who gave her to Cersei and Tywin instead of taking her to the boat, gets totally exonerated. How else would he have gotten so rich in so little time? He shows up in Tyrion’s cell in flashy and expensive suits and explains that Cersei arranged his marriage with a noble woman, as he wished. In exchange for… ?? So, Bronn actively betrayed Tyrion too. He lied to his face when he said that Shae was gone. So many viewers don’t catch that…

    @11:23: what actually happened is that the editing made it look like a pure and simple assault. And the director said that he might have misunderstood the intent of the scene. In the source materials, Cersei doesn’t have a problem with having sex with Jaime, she doesn’t want to have sex in the Sept. It is an inconsiderate risk for them as they can get caught. But she goes for it and it is fully consensual. If you watch the scene closely, you can see that she is kissing Jaime back as they go the ground… too little too late, some will say. Jaime and Cersei do have a weird power dynamic in both the show and the books. It seems that the only place where he is in command is in the bedroom and that they both like it rough - the rest of the time, she is bossing him around. I guess that’s what Alex Graves (the director) was trying to show. But to everybody’s eyes, it looked and sounded like rape - it would be in any normal relationship. Except the Lannister twins have anything but a normal relationship. It is toxic and deviant in essence.

    I know you said you mostly avoid comments about the books, but if you wanted a little bit more context for the whole Jaime/Cersei controversy then what you said was more or less right. That moment in the book, Jaime initiates it (Which of course is still wrong seeing as it's next to Joffrey's corpse), Cersei turns him down at first but then changes her mind and I believe most readers viewed it as consensual (Fucked up, but consensual). The showrunners claimed, after criticism, that they had not intended the scene to look like a r*pe from Jaime and that they messed up the camera angles and editing. I'm still not entirely convinced by their excuse seeing as the script still has Cersei explicitly saying no and pushing him off repeatedly. Thankfully though, seeing as it is seen as such a massive mistake in adaptation, most of us wouldn't blame you whatsoever for treating it as non-canon. George RR Martin didn't write it that way, the showrunners allege it was a mistake, and fans almost all collectively reject it.

      I think another huge mistake change was having Drogo r#pe Dany. In the books Dany goes willingly to Drogo on their wedding night. So they make on definitely not forced, into forced, more than once. The show runners refuse to let the women have agency when it comes to sex.

    I agree with the Jaime and Cersei scene in the sept not making sense and then being ignored for the rest of the season so it seems to me to be done for shock value which is a shame cus there was no need for that in the books at all. anyway I choose to just ignore that scene cus I think it's a terrible part of an otherwise great season.

    Also, are you planning to watch history and lore for this season? Please don't. There are huge spoilers for House of the Dragon.
    And the background Disney musis is rich. 😂

      Dude what. :D It's just youtube content, it's not always "important" but it's entertainment, does everyone who creates and consumes some form of entertainment need to "grow up"? And analyzing stories and characters isn't the dumbest sort of content, either. It exercises your creativity and it's healthy, that's partly why reading books is recommended.

    37:00 You're so far into the story now that I can give you a conspiracy from the books that I've been having thinking of for years. In the books Oberyn has more daughters, one of them is called Sarella. In Old Town there's a Dornish girl posing as "Alleras", most people think that's Sarella, but my observation is that Alleras is not Sarella because she doesn't fit the characteristics of Sarella. Sarella is described as wild and annoying.
    We know someone in the books that fits Sarella's description like a glove: Shae.
    In the books Tywin is known for keeping his brothel visits out of sight. Shae being in the tent next to Tywin would give him easy access to her. How did a bastard daughter posing as a whore get in Tywin's tent? Who runs the brothel-business for the Red Keep? Petyr Baelish.
    My conclusion, Shae was Bowed, Bent and Broken by Oberyn or Petyr under orders of Oberyn and planted her in Tywin's company. Shae is one of Oberyn's "Hidden Daggers".
    Great tier list Barry!
    Have a great ni-ghet

    • @kennyhudson9201
      @kennyhudson9201 3 месяца назад

      I can't say I agree, but nice theory. I think Alleras is definitely Sarella. I don't think any child of Oberyn would ever be bent or broken. If any Dornish are unbent and unbroken it's the Viper's daughters.
