Whereas the country needs a great infrastructure and only governmental infrastructures support the financial system of a nation through sound monetary policies. Bottoming, don't depend on individuals, depend on systems that would last generations.
I’m very glad to hear that capital market is happening in Ethiopia. This has been my wish for the last 17 years since I knew about it when I was studying finance in Addis Ababa university. Especially, after I moved to the USA, I clearly understood how it’s very important and game changing financial access especially for those who have smart business ideas but no money.

In order to create a transparent Capital Market, You need at least these five main institutions: Legal authority (e.g. Securities Exchange Commission & FINRA) - which acts as referee for everyone to play fair, Investment Banks (e.g. Goldman Sachs) - helps companies get listed on stock exchange markets, Brokerage Banks (e.g. Fidelity) - stores your money and facilitates the buying/selling, and Market Makers - sets the bid and ask (e.g. Credit Suisse) and Exchange Markets (e.g. NYSE & NASDAQ) where companies get listed.
You hit the nail on the head mate! The problem is the banks don't talk to each other! Someone has to fund the regulatory bodies! IECA will be the SEC equivalent! But it's a major ask for them to also standardize and referee without ballooning the agency and making it ineffective! The banks will be the beneficiaries and need to talk with themselves and the IECA and fund an independent body as the referee! Or the government has to levy fees to these banks to create an agency like Finra which will even help the banks get talent by standardizing security professionals! It will be interesting to see! Might have to look for jobs there and go back! Would love to be part of the change!

This is a very good beginning for a capital market. Yes even US market was total chaos before the market totally collapsed in 1929. US enacted its first investment law in 1933 followed by 1934and subsequently in 1940. The 1940 law mainly dealt with stoping any fraudulent activity by money mangers and dealers. The market in the US is now considered matured. Ethipoia as a late comer will flip frog and get the best technology and efficient compliance. This is God sent for Ethipoia

I can say starting an investment bank in Ethiopia is a promising. However, I have concerns about the lack of financial experts, the underdeveloped financial infrastructure, and the potential challenges related to transparency, accountability, and the risk of corruption. I think these factors could pose difficulties and vulnerabilities for our people when making investment decision & they should be ready and tolerate various levels of risk in their investment.
How about constant money devaluation? It discourages investors to buy stocks because the money will be not worthy or dividends won't be promoting investors rather people prefer in fixed assets that have huge potential for investment return
The purpose of capital market is to act as የዝውውር ጎዳና for private capital to go to real-world companies doing real-world things where the capital gives you a fractional ownership share in those real-world companies doing real-world things.
um also glad to hear this market system avalable in our country , but we have to know how to aply this system for most people of our comminity . this is important for us .

If this goes right, there will be an opportunity to create more manufacturing industries and service companies. In the mean time this helps to decrease the amount of imported goods and products. If this goes right, there will be an opportunity to create more manufacturing industries and service companies. In the mean time this helps to decrease the amount of imported goods and products. Which is also help to keep the foreign currency at home. In general if this becomes successful, it will help to the growth of GDP as well as individual incomes. I think this might control inflation while distributing wealth equally….I can’t wait to see the launch…great job Dr. Brook!

With regards to investors protection in capital markets,I think issues of corporate governance (when in reality,the board chair man is connected to CEO),and external auditors liability needs to be resolved.
