New to the channel! Loving the concept and production style! As a Canadian, I gotta say that Canadian bacon is an American invention. I still don't even know what that is lol. I'll rock the maple syrup stereotype proudly. Don't drink that swill on tables at diners. Anything called table syrup is just maple flavoured corn syrup. Gotta get the real stuff!
"Canadian Bacon" is Back Bacon. Americans are silly when the find something they don't understand. They make up a name instead of asking what things are. 😂
Ketchup comes from the Hokkien Chinese word, kê-tsiap, the name of a sauce derived from fermented fish. It is believed that traders brought fish sauce from Vietnam to southeastern China. The British likely encountered ketchup in Southeast Asia, returned home, and tried to replicate the fermented dark sauce
I heard of a stuff called "nuoc mam" which is basically rotten fish juice in brine but never in terms of the origin of ketchup. Interesting, thank you.
In Canada we do not call it Canadian bacon, we call it peameal ham or peameal bacon, or possibly back bacon in some areas, if it says bacon it is just regular bacon the same as in America. Canada is only cold in the winter it is hot in the summer. In fact 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the U.S. border and more than 70% of Canadians live below the 49th parallel (so around 60% live south of Seattle). Most American's have this vision of Canada being very cold, and it is in some parts of Canada in the winter but not all of Canada all the time. But even the more northern parts of Canada (where I am from) it can be very very cold in the winter but it is still hot in the summer.
In Québec "Canadian" bacon is ("bacon de dos"/back bacon) or ("bacon en semoule"/peameal bacon), never had either tbh. The only bacon I ever had is the "American" bacon, which we plainly call bacon.
It literally says on the sliced pears "heating Instructions NOT applicable to FRUIT"... My husband is CF member and he couldn't figure out why you were eating hot pears. 😅
Hi from Canada, your review of this was hilarious watching you guys try to speak French pomme de is potato apple of the Earth is the exact translation thank you for all you do and share great content
The C7/C8 rifles are based on the Colt Model 715, which is roughly functionally equivalent to the M16A3. Numerous improvements, such as a heavier, cold-forged barrel were made to the original design to create the C7 rifle and C8 carbine. The C8 is closer to the M4 in terms of overall dimensions and functions. Fun fact: Canada exported the C7 and C8 to the Netherlands and Denmark, and the British SAS and other specialist units in the British Army acquired a number of C7 rifles. So it's not just the Canadian Forces that is equipped with these small arms.
Ketchup is originally Chinese. Called 'katyap', it was a dark, strongly flavoured fish sauce. It has changed a lot over the century and three-quarters of its Western life.
I am canadian can confirm we all have frozen ponds behind our igloos to play hockey and to get to and from school or work we have sled beavers not sled dogs
I was going to say, my neighbour used to make a little rink in his backyard so the neighbourhood kids could play hockey. But there were also lots of frozen ponds to skate on. And a park near where I lived most recently would build a little rink on the basketball court so people could play hockey in winter. Stereotypes exist for a reason! I've never played hockey. But I'm female, so there was far less expectation of that.
oh, they also have German on the canadian heater bag? "Rationenerhitzer" is German for ration heater. Of course you have to pronounce it by just yelling the spelling.
Funny you said “trachea.” When I first joined the Canadian military in 1995, there was a MRE (we called them IMP) which was referred to as “lung in a bag” which was an omelet. My favorite was the beans and wieners, I actually really liked it.
Canadian cadet here I ate those energy bars and yes they get solid in the winter , a challenge me and my friends like to do is whoever can break the bar in 1 minute will win 10$😂
If you're doing a Winter EX, you tear down the IMP and tuck it in pockets on your kit. Usually the main meal and bar goes in a pocket next to your skin to keep it warm-ish, so it's not terrible. They're pretty dense at the best of times, as it is.
Hockey is the best sport there is……yeah I said it! Hope Canada beats the pants off of Florida in the final game of the Stanley Cup tomorrow night 🇨🇦 Born and raised in Cleveland, we skated frozen ponds and always made a rink in the backyard. Summered a lot of years across the lake.
The overthinking is legendary We used to dump everything in the entree pouch, shake and eat it all. It's hard to see on here how tiny each sachet of food was
Canadian Arty crews have stoves and heat the rations in hot water, the heaters are for patrols. The grenola is saved for night guard and has hot water added.
Holland 1944 Grandfather being French Acadian (Canadian Cajun's basically ) He took with him 3 lbs of Smoked dried Moose strips overseas Knowing he isn't going to find that in a Canadian MRE...Longer story short A family of dutch dragged his wounded butt into the cellar of the house Where he slept 11 hrs from blood loss And exhaustion They tended his wounds When he woke His bag And boots at the foot of the bed Untouched He asked them for the bag And yup his Jerky And MRE still there Which he gladly gave them ------ He later requested to his CO to give them a few more MRE's Which the CO denied ..His unit found out how the dutch people helped him And others Each man chipped in (50 or so) Bring it to the family which helped a few others too ..The final thing was "A supply truck was hit that destroyed all the rations And the camp needed a new supply VERY BADLY !" ...turns out the CO made the story up He felt bad with his men after what they done ...Grandfather said most of us were tired of corn beef Or what might of looked like food
Culture differences from somewhere so close is so funny. That main looked exactly how I expected and yes, it did make me hungry. The IMP is a marvel of modern food science.
Ketchup originated in the far east and had nothing to do with tomatoes. Sailors tried to recreate it using mushrooms, tomato ketchup is a fairly recent creation
Lots of the meal packs are made by the same manufacturer as the US MRE are made at. Just Canadian ration have larger portions and higher daily calorie.
That was great guys. And yes, eggs in our IMPs are disgusting. The original ham omelette meal was just brutal. I always made sure I got the sausage and hash brown. That was outstanding.
Canadian Veteran here. We use the C-7. Basicly it's a Canadian version of the M-16 or M-4 (C-8) in the carbine version........but better! Essentially all our weapons are the same as the US weapons, just with different names. The ration heater is like your guys, cause we originally got them from you, ours our bigger because our meal pouches are wider than the MREs. Hashbrowns and bacon is one of the best breakfasts.
@kevin.keen.socialmedia Yes, that and a larger diameter gas tube, cold hammer forged barrel, which I believe is chrome lined and we had optics on it as standard way before they did.
When I worked for the Royal Canadian School of Artillery I had a Battery Commander that carried a bottle of hot sauce in his combat shirt pocket at all times. In his opinion it was essential field kit. 😂
Back when i was a kid in cadets, you'd get a little tiny tiny bottle of tabasco in a lot of the candian MRE's (this was 10 years ago, so they've changed a lot since then im sure)
This is my go to breakfast ration when in the field. Right now for lunch/supper my go to is pizza pasta or beef macaroni. If you can get those give them a go. I’ll see if I can get them and send them down to you

Sadly, our military has been seriously underfunded ever since Trudeau took over and my husband has been retired for 10 years now so I can’t speak to what they are like now but for the sake of the troops I hope they are not too terrible. 😳
French Canadian here, I laughed so hard at the pronunciations. It's like you were saying it in bad Italian 🤣
Sameeee 😂😂😂
Same haha
It's hilarious ♥

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT?!! haha
Add the cereal/oatmeal to the pears (or other fruit pack) after heating. That's how I used to do it.
Yup midnight snack
Your French is somewhere between Inspector Clouseau and a native Spanish speaker. Quite an achievement !
1.That energy bar had to be expired as fuck

I'd use the beverage bag to keep stuff I didn't eat or if I brought my cell phone as a dry bag.
And unless it’s changed, most people don’t heat the fruit bag up.
Canadian here! Commenting just because I love your content and I love maple syrup, “back bacon” aka Canadian bacon, now…off to watch!
Yea it's Americans who call it canadian bacon. We call it back bacon here. And bacon is still bacon!
As a French Quebecois, I do appreciate your attempts at speaking French (especially on the eve of our "national holiday"), they are highly amusing.
The chemistry between you to is amazing! I look forward to these videos!

What we call peameal bacon is what they call Canadian bacon.

nah, apparently they just jump straight to MAID D:

Its definitely deadly haha

French Canadian here, you two are adorable! Really, really bad french pronunciation but it’s cute haha!
With captions on, the heater noise is“(applause)” 😂 👏
Great banter as always!! Awesome video!!! In some older US MREs, they used to put dehydrated catsup in the accessory packs.
Appreciate it. We def have fun with these
“It’s spicy…if you’re French” 😂😂
The Canadian Forces use the C7/C8 service rifle which is similar to your M4. Great videos, very entertaining.

I'm from Ontario, the only time we call back bacon 'peameal bacon', is if the edges of the slices have a cornmeal rind.
Thank you for a much needed laugh (actually, 100s of those)!
Watching this at midnight and now I want to go down to the kitchen and cook up bacon, eggs and hashbrowns.
Oh yeah, and I'm Canadian 🇨🇦
It literally says on the sliced pears "heating Instructions NOT applicable to FRUIT"...
My husband is CF member and he couldn't figure out why you were eating hot pears. 😅
Me, a Canadian, sitting here, sipping on Elijah Craig (American bourbon) watching Americans eat Canadian rations somehow feels right. 😅
It sounds right. I like it.
Thank god they used cold water for the cereal, I was about to have a stroke lol
I think milk is more often used for cereal. They should have used milk 😂
@@stevenk628 oh I agree my dude. But 9 times out of 10, in the field there is no milk lol

I served in the early 80's. Same pears.
The ration pack was probably from that era.
am from canada and I can confirm that!
Canada doesn't use bullpups, they use locally made M16s and other AR platforms, and I think Australia also recently switched from the AUG to ARs

Canadian bacon is an American term. US and Canadian bacon is basically the same.
Canadian bacon is back bacon made from the pork loin not the fatty side or belly
