Long ago and far away, Cold Weather Training at FT. McCoy Wis. 1990. The MEB (Marine Expeditionary Brigade) made sure all Marines were issued a small version of a white gas Backpacking stove (Military Grade) That way all personnel could properly eat the Cold Weather MRE’s. Those of us Operating the AAV’s had the Personel heaters on the vehicle too heat water. Some of the Hummers (some) had decent heaters.
@@Butterworthdasyrup when I was transferred out too Pendleton I invested in a Coleman whisper lite. Now as a Scout Master my go too in winter is the MSR multi fuel and spring, summer and fall campouts it’s a pocket rocket from MSR or MSR’s version of a jet boil.
I loved how the younger one just randomly flipped the knife, that is absolutly illegal to carry around here in CH (strict laws for knifes, handable with 1 hand only) and used it as a bottle opener 😂 - like .. I just would've force with the 'use cloth within' technique but nah. He used some swag. 😂 Can't get over it. - also, would be interesting to know what the 'arctic day-meal' in a whole looks like. The whole thing for a day. But as always, thank you for the video, I love this series so much and it brightens up my day. (Sorry for language-errors.) 🎉
In the Artic if your in the rear with the gear the water bulls have immersion heaters in them. We were also issued small camp stoves so we had access to hot water.
I've seen the Arctic MRE in cases in storage once....but also, Mountain House is the best! They're based in Albany, Oregon at Oregon FreezeDry. That menu didn't look bad at all. I would eat it for sure. The Raisin Nut Mix is definitely a last ditch snack for my guys and I when we get them, the get ditched into a spare empty MRE bag hidden in the back of the track.
the one thing i have learned is all the artic mre's main entrees are freezedried & made by mountain house. the objective here was to cut down on the wet weight carried by a soldier. have had the freeze dried 'camping' version, an i agree with the kids opion. the texture on the scrambled eggs leaves much tobe desired.
Dude. After the Veggie Omelet comment, that's the fastest I've ever clicked subscribe. I still have nightmares and I've been out for years. Much love from a broken 82nd grunt.
C Co. 4/9 IN out of Ft. Wainwright 91-94. Very nostalgic. As far as access to hot water, I'm going to second the Marine in one of the other comments. Most of us usually had a liquid fuel backpacking stove (Coleman, et.al...), the LOGPACs usually brought up white gas for them.
I was a cook in the army and my first duty station was ft. Drum New York and that wasn’t how we did eggs. We also had a fresh omelette station. It’s been a minute since I’ve been out so it might of changed.
you should subjugate your Sous-chef to the veggie omlette, that one even with the tobasco that came with it made it worse i could say that is a -1 for me, my top fave even from the 90's mre hands down was the best was the chicken ala king plus Ranger bar if anyone remembers that, its not like the ones they get now but the 90's version.
I think instead of doing points you have them on the board (or flags on the board etc) and you have to place the new MRE in the chart where it belongs for example better than German but worse than Finnish etc. So we dont have to give a number or remember a number just will know which is best as they will be in order best to worst etc.
Instead of a white board do it like old Top Gear had and instead of scores have a sheet of metal with magnetic strips on it with the name of the MRE on it. - The MRE leaderboard.
Subject your newbie to the dreaded “vomilete” as a rite of passage. I hated that meal, the cider that came in it was the only decent part of that meal. And a yes to a rating board, kinda a like the old Top Gear board for fastest lap. It was on magnets and could bump around if something needed moving.
@stevencorey7702 I recently bought a bunch of the old Canadian military arctic boots and sold them to Americans who cosplay as Snowtroopers from The Empire Strikes Back. I kept a pair for myself because there was the equivalent of a woman's size 7. What a struggle to put them on though!
Not me (army) thinking about ordering some random country’s MREs to take to the field and try 😂 Also, I’m not willing to say how many of these I’ve binged lol
“ I’ve tried an MRE that my stepdad had gave me and to be honest I would rather eat an MRE than the food I have to eat at school!, BTW you forgot to save some hot sauce for your eyelids to stay awake!”.
Wait. MRE coffee does something for you?!? Seriously? Im from Europe and the MRE coffee packages are *the* worst item since i bet they contain zero % caffeine. Nobody ever got effects of it. Yet it keeps you awake over in the US? What am i missing here?
Am I in the military? No. Will I ever eat an MRE? No. Did I just binge watch all of this series? Yes. 😂 I’m obsessed please don’t ever stop these!
Appreciate that and glad you like the videos. Plenty more to come.

That's really neat and I bet heating them up made them that much more enjoyable in the field.
@@Butterworthdasyrup 🤣

Protip: make that chef coat look a tad more legit by flipping that cuff over at the seam where it meets the sleeve so your wrist is showing.
YES CHEF! Will do though thanks
I'd deduct at least 30 points for a breakfast menu not having at least 3 packs of coffee. I mean ... come on!
haha facts
omg this is the best series. dude, you're crushing it!
Appreciate it!
The two of you was a super good pair!!!! 🎉 Love from Norway!
Appreciate that!

Glad you liked the video!
I've had the Mountain House bacon and scrambled eggs while camping. I think it's pretty good!
This is the best so far! Good to have the sous chef for some banter. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Yes to a ranking board!
On it!
This show brings me back to my childhood. I used to love trying these. I want to order some for our next hurricane season.
You Mr. Butterworth deserve much more than you have, you are a true treasure
Does your Sous-chef get a different jacket if he finally grows a face caterpillar?
if he can grow a mustache he will earn it!
Sgt Foscato is too good looking for facial hair.
Love the Combat MRE Spoon Badge vs the Expert MRE Spoon Badge
Merch coming soon
Lolol
I think 5 points should be taken from this MRE and given to the Aussies because you used their spoon 😂😂
Y'all are so adorable! 🤗
The maple and brown sugar oat meal was always awesome. I loved the MRE peanut butter.
So good!

These rations are great! This is a goto menu of mine for backpacking!! Thanks for sharing
Def not a terrible one
Yes! A ratings board. 👍
I agree, I would rather not have breakfast type items (Although, coffee is necessary). Great video!
Thank you!

I'm literally eating almonds and raisins as i'm watching this

Yes for spreadsheet but you also need a quantified grading scale. Taste, variety of items, etc.
I am thinking we do a scale of 1-5 for each item. Still trying to figure that out
Sous chef is well funny
He def is!

Hey your video just made my day a little better. Thanks. :)
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching

The nut mix could be a mix-in for the oatmeal, which might be why it has no salt. Just a thought…
Gotta love dod give you food but no way to heat/drink it on a mission 😂
We use to sell Mountain House at the outdoor store I use to work. 🤣 if I had to work and didn’t have lunch to bring I would buy that and eat it 😂
Or when you are stuck on an OP at 18,000 ft above a valley in the Hindu Kush during winter, those breakfast MRE's remind you of home

I wish there was a place around near me that i could get some of those DFAC coffee cups, kind of miss those.
They are pretty cool!
They would make an MRE that has eggs... As if we don't get enough eggs for breakfast in the field x.x

If this was an Air Force only MRE, those eggs would be fresh and mixed with lobster. 😅
Shoot it would be a full catered meal in the field.
No kidding!! Seven courses with “cauffeeee.” 😂
A little leprechaun chef in the bag to cook and serve it to them.
remember kids and soldiers, when the snow is yellow, it's not lemon flavored.
Just did some arctic training and everyone had their own jetboil
Next time you have cocoa add the coffee packet
I am fascinated about MREs since I have never had one.
bro this video is so fire sauce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate that!
OMFG; the old green veggie omelette..; this seems a thousand times better!
Arctic mre, in white packaging so if you drop it in the snow you’ll have to get another one
28 is accurate. greetings from Germany
Instead of a white board do it like old Top Gear had and instead of scores have a sheet of metal with magnetic strips on it with the name of the MRE on it. - The MRE leaderboard.
Eating these when you’re freezing and use a jetboil are amazing! Did you guys have boiling water or just hot?
I want to apologize. When I liked the video, I made it 70 likes.
How DARE you.
You are a monster.
😂❤
This first drink works fine as signal paint in the snow. Is this intentional?
Yes, I made that up… haha not sure

Working on a board in that fashion. Should make the rating scheme that much better.
We arent judging you by your water to mix ratio. I'm judging you by how dainty you stirred the mix, hope you like crunchy fruit punch.
can yall please bring a rock in.
Deal
2:33 I seriously thought he meant to put your pee in to use it like a hot water bottle, so you don't freeze or lose some toes.🤣
Hahahhaa
4 years at FT. Wainwright Alaska and never saw a Artic MRE LOL
Haha first time I have seen one in 18 years
Where can I order my own Master MRE-tasting Combat Tour Badges like the one that is on chef 👨🍳 coat?
Very soon!
Are those cut crystal 9 oz cup
Yes Patrick you def have an eye for plastic drinkware!
I make that certain product that's why I noticed
What about a review on the Cheese and Veggie Omlet there big sarge? 😂😂
Sold!
Side note: There won't be a video on Army Artic Survival gear. Everyone knows it doesn't work and you'll still freeze your nuts off...🥴

I tried an MRE like that before with the Tabasco sauce and it had NO flavor at all it was so annoying
Not gonna lie, I'd have used the big white bag to put hot water in and heat the packages sous-vide style.
let's get these out on a bohr war mess tray... nice
Finally hot water...
I'm getting there! Listening to the audience and adapting. Gotta make it better always
One bite, everyone knows the rules! YES!
Nice to see another Virginian
Hello friend!
Hi 👋
Was this young soldier in a previous short or video? I recognize him.
Yup he has been with me since I made my first video!
@@Butterworthdasyrup oh nice
Ok I commented on the German ration video that you don't have kettles to boil hot water over there then you pull that out... lol
Love these but please SHOW THE FOOD AND DESCRIBE IT! Let us eat it through you!
I dare you to try Country Captain Chicken if you can find it
Dare accepted
Not me (army) thinking about ordering some random country’s MREs to take to the field and try 😂
Also, I’m not willing to say how many of these I’ve binged lol
I'd imagine if you were in Alaska, fighting the Chinese for example, you'd just use the fusion core in your power armour to heat water :)
Hahaha
How military can you be if ya reach in your pocket and whip out that knife. 😂😂😂😂😂
Norwegian combat ration kit please.
Hey would love u to try more of Our mre from Australia ❤
“ I’ve tried an MRE that my stepdad had gave me and to be honest I would rather eat an MRE than the food I have to eat at school!, BTW you forgot to save some hot sauce for your eyelids to stay awake!”.
Not going to lie I am curious to try an M.R.E just for the experience of it if I could find some that aren't expired lol😅😅😅
Keep creating ❤
Definitely will thank you!
New here. Love the video. I get Freddy Mercury and his side kick Robin the Boy Wonder vibes… 😂😂😂 jk keep doing what your doing.
Hahaha thank you
You guys are funny
👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻Foscato 🙋♀️💗
Rock or something mentioned
"Artic"
What?!?! No fried ice cream dessert?😭😭😭
Shoot I wish!!!
It resembles egg… 🫠🥴
Joahua in right
I'm watching this and all i see is a young Henry Cavill and a DDay superproduction film main actor trying food stuff.
Nice to see Foscato getting a bigger role.
Glad he could do this with me!
Why does Hayden Christensen try an American Arctic MRE?
Wait.
MRE coffee does something for you?!?
Seriously?
Im from Europe and the MRE coffee packages are *the* worst item since i bet they contain zero % caffeine.
Nobody ever got effects of it.
Yet it keeps you awake over in the US?
What am i missing here?
ive always said the spaghetti was better
Old man bags... 😅😅
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey I am from Sri Lankan. Your videos are very entertaining.
Sir excuse me!
Can I have a US Army boot. If you have a boot. Please donate me
Veggie omelette 🤢. We had one guy in our platoon who loved that one.
💩in that 👝
Am i the only one who'd poop in the bag?
