Are those really OLD MRE's still good? I understand, that MRE's have to stay Safe to Eat for a long time, but 10+ Years i suppose are just a little bit to long XD. Well i hope you had no food poisoning. And i hope the Fresh/new MRE's taste as good as possible. Then how we Say "Ohne Mampf, kein Kampf" (Without Food, No Fight). The better the Food the higher the Moral.
Several years ago, when I got hired for my current job as a HS math & science teacher, I found some MRE heaters in a storage cabinet. I recall laughing out loud at the "rock or something" on the directions, so it tickles me to no end that you have this as a running gag! Thanks for your videos - they are so fun and have taught me a lot about how to improve my technique for heating these up since my marine son has since given me several to share with my students when we discuss the production of heat as one type of evidence of a chemical change. (Basically more time & knead before serving. Rookie errors.) Wishing you both the best!
Just for eating MREs alone - thank you for your service! Coming from Germany, I know we have MREs now too, but I miss the times of the Gulaschkanone (goulash cannon), not the least because the “mobile field kitchen” was invented in my hometown.
Love to see these reviews. back when i was deployed in uruzgan (2007-2008) i used to eat these a lot because our dutch rations were shit back in the day. Love your videos.
I haven't had an MRE since the late 80s, when I was in Army Cadets. Sadly, I was medically unfit to serve. I wonder if any fellow Aussies remember the old tinned eggs and bacon from that era. Unlike some other MRE channels, it's good to hear from an ex and current service personnel. The banter between you both just adds a wonderful father and son type element to the videos. Thank you both.
Leaves 'n Beans Premium Instant Ice Tea - Tastes exactly the same, looks exactly the same, smells exactly the same, except you get a larger serving. They had it at our Wholefoods a while back, gave me instant nostalgia trip (no pun intended) YW.
Thank you for your service, btw I love these videos I watch a lot of mre content from people like Steve but sometimes it’s nice to switch it up and listen to people that are more chill with it
Tyler, you can buy something similar to this bbq in the frozen food section of your grocery store. Look in the plant based (veggie/vegan) case. They are really tasty, and that's coming from a meat eater.
I really miss the old menu 9, beef stew. Dunno if they have it anymore, but if you have Campbell's beef with vegetables and barley cold out of the can it tastes damn similar.
Make a patch that is the ice tea packet and only Tyler gets it cuz its his fav… and then you can make patches for anything that is life changing and add those lol
7:38 food coloring is not the only content that is banned over here. probably 80% is banned over here due to preservatives and other chemicals used. even your eggs and your bread would not be legal here. it is not the bread! it's the "Wonder" part before "bread", that give it a shell live of a month, that is illegal.
If i remember, i had that one. The tea was only lemon, didn't really eat the bread, so just ate it out of the bag was better since the bbq sauce was over whelming still tasted alot better than the veggie omelet.
Yes but the only MRE entree that can clean the carbon build up in the barrel of an M-16 is Beef Diced with Gravy. I tried it once during a boring field deployment...after that I pondered what it must do to the human bowels.🥴
That was emotional. Sir, I am glad you came back safe and can now have the life you built yourself. In honor to everyone that lost their lifes in this war, I wish everyone that did survive the best life possible. These are weak words, but they come from heart. Food can be very emotional bound. If someone was in a dire situation, no matter the kind of, and they got that one thing that brought them joy in those moment, that will stay forever. To all soldiers, all humans in a war or war like situation, in first place you are human and I wish you a safe return, enough and good food and oh dear, I hope somehow mankind don't need war anymore. A naive wish. Not gonna lie, this episode touched me deeply. And it makes me angry, knowing how many ignorant people are ..everywhere, treating peacefull times as a normality. I don't want to ruin anything. I am just generally afraid. On a lighter mode, I am really curious about that IceTea now. I hope someone can send you a bunch of it - and decor it with a shadowbox or anything. 🍀 (I hope this comment is okay. If not, let me know, I will remove it.)
Oh yeah, there are food colourings that are banned in Europe, but not in the US, plus a general move here towards natural colour and flavour. There was even a bakery here in the UK that got in big trouble for selling cakes with US imported sprinkles with banned colourings. US food colouring and Kool-Aid are really, really popular with people who dye wool, though. You get nice, vivid colours, and it works reliably because it's all artificial.
Could tell you were a red arse in the video with the twisted chin strap. Funny how some meals eaten on ops in shitholes invoke some vivid memories. Keep up the good work you two.
Need to find the brand and see if they even make that iced tea powder in like large containers at a Costco or something. Could be Lipton or Good Host maybe. Granted it may be a completely different recipe even if it's the same brand.
@Butterworthdasyrup I don't care what anyone says, some of my favorite memories are based sitting out in the field or at a range with shitty weather and eating MREs
The ones I sent you are from 2006!
You are the man! Thank you so much for sending again!

Love your stories. It's always great to go down memory lane.
Love hearing the stories. Love this channel. Abbott and Costello

Very sincere “thank you for your service” (and fun videos!)
Shoe string potatoes are amazing in the little cans at the grocery store are super salt and satisfying too.
Are they the same as the hickory sticks we have in Canada?
My favorite episode yet. Thank you for your service.
Glad you enjoyed it

From my time in the Navy, never let military people get bored. They do some stupidly funny stuff. LOL
You needed more paint chipping time.
@@Yandarval I got really good with a needle gun. LOL
The really neat part about your video is that your ASV actually functioned.

Watched this with the Mrs...thank you for sharing! We got to share some of my MRE stories and Iraq stories, thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Sure would be a great sight to see an MRE cookbook from eBay for only 7 bucks including shipping on your shelf up there.
Chili mac ravioli and bbq veggie burger are all bangers from early iraq
Ravioli number 1!
I really miss the old menu 9, beef stew. Dunno if they have it anymore, but if you have Campbell's beef with vegetables and barley cold out of the can it tastes damn similar.
I think I remember that one when I was at basic in 2012. Don’t know if they still make it, but that one and the spaghetti were my favorites.
One of my favorite MREs was the vegetarian lasagna, some tabasco and it was pretty fire.
Make a patch that is the ice tea packet and only Tyler gets it cuz its his fav… and then you can make patches for anything that is life changing and add those lol
Love this idea

I use those patato sticks whenever I make some Asian chicken soup when it's served for a bit of a crunch in the soup

Loved the close up of the cornflake that wasn't on the menu...
Jalapeño burger used to come with ketchup and mustard
You aged by far better than today’s MRE. 😁
The side quest for glitter-stache made the entire video
Could you please do a series talking about the history of military MRE’s?
Sure thing
I heard a cbc radio doc once about the science behind mre's. Wild stuff.
AWESOME VIDEO!
Thank you!

Everything is multi purpose. Sor example, that orange drink mix can be used as a signal flare in times of distress.
DONT TALK BACK RIGHT NOW!
Jesus Christ LMAO. I love it! 😂
Use a bigger glass for the drink mixes.
Yes sergeant!! But seriously will do!
Now get a veggie omelette
Mmmmmmmm

Hey Chef! Ihave eat this in Kabul / Afghanistan! This bring memories.

How many years has it been expired?
I thought the MREs were for absolute emergencies, you said they were in Iraq? Wasn't there a normal field kitchen there?
Not all the time
Was it an MRAP or a Stryker?
