Episode 410: The Turpin Family and Their House of Horrors

The Turpin case, which came to light in January 2018, involved the severe abuse and imprisonment of 13 siblings by their parents, David and Louise Turpin, in Perris, California. The children, ranging in age from 2 to 29, were discovered living in squalid conditions, malnourished, and chained to their beds. The abuse, which had persisted for years, was uncovered when one of the siblings, a 17-year-old girl, escaped and alerted authorities. The parents were subsequently arrested and charged with numerous counts of torture, false imprisonment, child abuse, and cruelty to dependent adults. In 2019, they were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. The case drew widespread media attention and raised critical questions about the effectiveness of child protective services and the ability of children to seek help in abusive situations.

I grew up in the same church denomination as David Turpin. I didnt know him, but do know his brother Randy, the kids uncle. He and his wife Kerry are great folks. It was a terrible thing that happened. While I no longer attend that church, it is certainly not an "extreme" Penticostal denomination, pretty mild actually. somewhat similar to southern baptist.
