This is definitely one of Carrey's best performances, in my opinion. There is a great amount of physical comedy as well as terrifically funny writing and dialog, but there is also a great sentiment to the film and wonderful character development.
The director who directed Jim in both this and Bruce Almighty described the process as "comedy fishing" where Jim is free to improvise a lot and they pick what take is funniest. Works extremely well in both movies.
For some reason the line I always quote from the bloopers is... "..a gooose!" 🤣😅
This is my favorite Jim Carrey Comedic movie!

I KNOW!!! It was so unintentionally adorable.
I remember seeing this in the theater with my friends. We laughed so hard. Especially at the bloopers. We seen so many of Jim Carey's movies in the theater. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Liar Liar, The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and The Grinch. He's definitely an actor I've grown up watching.
I have a lot of respect for this judge, and also for the actor who plays the part! you can see why, right? 😂
I love this movie. Despite being legally incorrect in every single way. Even if she signed underage she benefited enough to make the contract binding. There is no way she would have won let alone survive appeal. With that rant aside this movie his hilarious. My favorite part is every single time Carry runs into the boss lady. Like he just got jump scared, and they built that up over and over to make it even better the next time.
Ironically, this was the movie that convinced me that Jim Carrey could do more than just be a clown. We get all the standard Jim Carrey slapstick and facial expressions, but he also has to be a believable father with a little boy. So while he can go over the top a bit because he's the "cool but workaholic dad," he still has to be grounded enough in reality that we care about him figuring out what's really important. He has to be human. I also like that they don't entirely make Cary Elwes' (albeit with bad American accent) Jerry the villain. He's a decent guy. He just happens to be in the spot Fletcher wishes he was still in. He's dorky, but he's not a bad guy. There are some deleted scenes from this movie that are priceless but drag the film down a bit, so they weren't included. I seem to remember him do a full on spoof of the legal system, but it didn't fit with the plot. I can imagine a lot of Jim's movies are like that.
I have no idea what you’re talking about… I’ve never seen him be a slapstick clown, I’ve only ever seen him be an amazingly talented entertainer. I’ve seen other comedians be slapstick, but there is nobody like Jim Carrey
i know robin williams often has thousands of hours of takes they didn't use. i imagine it's similar with carrey

Happy New Year from NY's Hudson Valley! SO MUCH FUN to watch you both having a great time with this movie. People often talk about Jim Carrey's performance, but I think the supporting cast being able to stay in character and not break is absolutely incredible. They make him even funnier by being the perfect foil. Thank you for sharing your reactions with us through the year and I hope you have a happy and healthy 2024 (can't believe I just typed that).

She would still lose the case anyway because she committed fraud in the very beginning lying about her age...
However, marriage is a legal contract as well. Her lying about her age would also nullify the marriage.

The prenuptial agreement being null and void (hah, love legalese) because she was a minor is neat and all, but that should also mean the marriage is also null and void. Point being, that wouldn't just win him the case, but it would result in another court case just to figure out the legality of this divorce.
common law marriage would entitle her to an equal share of the assets and would weaken his side in a custody battle.
I know Jim Carrey's character fire marshal bill is in this movie
The entire premise for this movie is fodder for over the top comedy, but Carrey really brought it home!
Too funny - perfect casting. Have you watched The Invention of Lying with Ricky Gervais - seriously funny and a twist on this premise. I also love Jim in The Number 23 which is a fairly twisted thriller - he's so talented in both drama and comedy.
