Come on, the reality is that there is a problem with obesity amongst children. Or are you saying there is no such issue? In the US about 20% of kids are obese, those parents certainly buy the meals that are more filling 😂 So a lower calorie option that kids want is of course a good thing if it is otherwise good for them. And DanTDM did sell candy to his child audience, irregardless of what MrBeast or KSI does, so DanTDM criticizing MrBeast or KSI or anyone else for shilling stuff to kids is obviously hypocritical. I am not a big fan of any of these people, and KSIs reaction is of course way out of proportion. But we can all at least agree that DanTDM is a hypocrit.
2024 was such a mask-off moment for MrBeast, the second all the allegations came out he leaned into associating with controversial figures HARD. What a year.
I knew I never liked him for a reason. The "look how good of a person I am with MONEY" videos, which were easy to defend as "you can't hate on the guy for helping people". That fake-ass "I'm just going to show my teeth, that'll be convincing enough" "smile" he always does where the top half of his face remains deadpan. It screams, "I'm actually dead inside and faking enthusiasm for my child audience." Imagine being a person in a struggling village in a third world country, and that's the dude who comes to "help" and gives you that lizard-person grin as appeasement for doing a half-assed job at building new facilities for your people. I really liked oompaville's video about lunchly. He has a candy line and has a lot of "insider" knowledge about food production. It's pretty great to see him get heated over their bs. And him having the knowledge to call them out on it.
Yeah he pretends it's not hypocritical because he's letting _them_ decide their "creative process", while in reality no matter how many layers of disconnect you create he's furthering the goal of using the art of real people to create an ungodly amount of images at an impossible rate to _outcompete the very artists they were trained on._ People who took the time to master their craft and create their style have that style stolen systematically without their autonomy to outdo their art, so someone else can profit off of their hardwork without needing to agree to it. Brownlee has become part of the problem he's afraid of. Completely disallowing AI in his app was the only move here.

I think you can pay for the artist wallpapers directly but I assumed if you did the overpriced subscriptions, it will split some amount to the AI artist anyways. Unless the artists get 0% of the subscriptions then that’s also messed up.

Re: Leticia Sarda: I may be misremembering the story, but from what I read/heard, it was Leticia herself who located the original photo, not the photographer. I think the photographer had some shots from that shoot, but not that particular one. Leticia went to her former agency’s office in person to collect her old portfolio, and dig out the photo (the one she’s posing with). I think that was such a sweet thing for her to do, and I was taken aback by how strikingly beautiful she is.
It was the the photographer first but a lot of people on the Reddit claimed it was just a fake or AI so then someone reached out to Leticia and she went to her old modeling agency and found the physical copy for proof it was legit!! Regardless, super sweet of her!

Yeah that's exceptionally greedy, particularly when by the act of running a site with multiple artists he would make many times more than any of them just taking a small percentage. The only way this could _maybe_ be justified is if this were a project between only two people, where Marques does the programming for the app to get eyes on the art, and a single artist provides the art. But even then he should be getting less as there are many more forums to get eyes on that person's art, and providing logistics should never be paid as much as creating product as has been the case well before a computer was invented.

MKBHD has been dodging another issue that is arguably destroying his reputation as a neutral tech reviewer. Sure he can be harsh on small to medium companies that's his job. But his criticisms against large tech companies like Apple and Tesla are so weak. He doesn't challange them on hard hitting issues and only throws soft balls at them. He doesn't want to burn bridges even if that puts his integrity in question.

KSI not getting why products for kids are more heavily scrutinized is on brand. He, Logan and Mr Beast just see children as smaller sized consumers of products they are selling with the goal of getting all the money.

On my new account (which is only a year old), I was getting a ridiculous amount of ads, including getting two new ads anytime I paused. On this account, I was getting 1-2 ads per video. Even if they were the same exact videos! If you have a newer account, apparently they show you more ads.

The "less calories" angle is SO weird. That's how you advertise to adults, not children. Children don't need to worry about calories (if anything most of them probably don't eat ENOUGH, either because their family struggles financially or because... well, typical child pickiness). It boggles my mind that that's the pitch they're going with. If I were a parent buying food for my child I would pick the meal that was more filling

When like, the WHOLE POINT OF THE DANG SONG IS ABOUT THAT EXACT TOPIC; that women’s (aesthetic) interests are perceived as shallow and vapid, when in reality women are people with complex personalities and their aesthetic choices don’t represent their entirety as varied, unique individuals.
I can kind of understand why people freaked out though. When you already live in a world of misogyny and there are actually people out there who do in fact criticize all women (of every race, ethnicity, sexuality, etc) for just existing; it's hard to see where the sarcasm might be in a sea of misogyny that already exists.

Re: Leticia Sarda: I may be misremembering the story, but from what I read/heard, it was Leticia herself who located the original photo, not the photographer. I think the photographer had some shots from that shoot, but not that particular one. Leticia went to her former agency’s office in person to collect her old portfolio, and dig out the photo (the one she’s posing with). I think that was such a sweet thing for her to do, and I was taken aback by how strikingly beautiful she is.
It was the the photographer first but a lot of people on the Reddit claimed it was just a fake or AI so then someone reached out to Leticia and she went to her old modeling agency and found the physical copy for proof it was legit!! Regardless, super sweet of her!

Yeah that's exceptionally greedy, particularly when by the act of running a site with multiple artists he would make many times more than any of them just taking a small percentage.
The only way this could _maybe_ be justified is if this were a project between only two people, where Marques does the programming for the app to get eyes on the art, and a single artist provides the art. But even then he should be getting less as there are many more forums to get eyes on that person's art, and providing logistics should never be paid as much as creating product as has been the case well before a computer was invented.
I used to watch KSI in the past. He has a massive ego and is incredibly insecure and gets upset over anyone who criticizes him, even over the smallest things. So this doesn’t surprise me. Looks like his ego got bruised.

MKBHD has been dodging another issue that is arguably destroying his reputation as a neutral tech reviewer. Sure he can be harsh on small to medium companies that's his job. But his criticisms against large tech companies like Apple and Tesla are so weak. He doesn't challange them on hard hitting issues and only throws soft balls at them. He doesn't want to burn bridges even if that puts his integrity in question.
I was only subbed to him for like two weeks when the apple interview dropped. At least I didn't pump his numbers for long lmao, that was an immediate unsub.

The MKBHD drama is so weird-not because people were upset about it, but because it was so easily avoidable. He, of all people, should have been able to see this coming. I can't see that as a good decision when he really doesn't even have much to gain from this app. Seriously, who is going to pay for a yearly subscription or watch multiple ads to download a phone wallpaper? Tons of apps let you do that for free, and a lot of those apps even have things like ringtones. From both a business and ethics standpoint, this was a ridiculous decision.
