April, you can sure tell you have a proud mamma that wants to help her darling daughter. Most of the time it is the father out there helping his kids. It was really nice to see that you included her in this project.
I love your mom when she pops up in your videos. She is a Cool Texas Momma. She just beams with pride when she looks at her little girl. Great project, you made it look easy and within reach of most of us. Loved that mortise and tenon solution.
This is a nice looking glider, April. Thanks for sharing it with and a special thanks to your co-star for taking time out of her busy schedule at the Wood Shed to a bit of class to this week's video.
The video is just right. Right timing, right amount of detail . Reference to plans when necessary. This is NOT a beginner project. The tools alone are considerable and the expertise to use them all. I agree with the stainless steel comment below. Even in the desert. I am glad you are still doing videos for us. For those of us who happen to own a DF500, the 8mm or 10mm dominos will work here as well, but I completely understand the Rockler approach.
While watching this video I took some notes down using my Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencil. But later on had to switch to my Bic blue ball point pen when the pencil needed sharpening. ; - )
Bought the plans. Very well done. Highly recommended. Parts are color coded. Templates use direct measurements instead of grid. Easy to follow. I'm using treated 1 ⅛ inch ( and significantly heavier!) deck plank and will use outdoor glue (Titebond III) on mating surfaces. Experience with outdoor seating projects exposed to the weather tells me these glued joints last a lot longer. I secure the parts with pre-drilled deck screws. A few adjustments in the template dimensions are needed for deck plank. I'll put the back and bottom slats on the frame with screws only in case they need to be replaced.

If you are building something to last 2-3 years by all means use galvanized hardware. If you think it might be quite nice to have the thing still looking good and usable for 10 years then the ONLY choice is stainless. Galvanized hardware starts to show signs of rust after only a few years. The coating is made as thin as possible to cut down on costs but that makes it very likely to breakdown quickly. Stainless hardware does not cost a lot these days especially compared to the time to make and cost of the timber. In all my outdoor projects and even in a lot of indoor ones I always use stainless if at all possible.
Thanks y’all for the galvanized and stainless hardware tips. I’m an old fart, but a wood working beginner! Really glad I read the comments and replies .. S H Katy, TX
When free routering on a table without a fence, use a pin to brace the workpiece as it's pushed into the bit. I've had it happen where the router bit grabs the wood and jerks it (which sometimes causes excessive tear out or gouging) or launches it across the shop. Also, not using push blocks could also put fingers and hands in danger of serious injury or amputation. The last thing to do around power tools is to get to comfortable and arrogantly confident.
Very cool project. I really like it. My grandma has one and it is so comfy. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work April. Keep making. God Bless.
Very nice job April you are coming on just nice just a few constructive criticism the screws on top would have been nice to plug and l no you did a great job with the floating tongues but next time push your self a little and did A mortise and tenant l think you could do it you have come a long way lady I would have you working at are workshop you know what you are doing well done 👍👍👍 nice to see you in your own workshop stay safe 😊 and keep your videos coming thank you
Really laid back and cool mom, I loved the toetector flip flops. great project, I enjoyed watching, I'm rather envious if all the machinery you have April.
Very nice glider. Once I get a patio built its something I'd like. The reason you don't find locking washers in galvanized is because the process ruins in nylon locking material. For what your doing a flat washer, spring washer and nut in galvanized will work well. Those may not have been available. A spring washer will hold tension on the threads helping lock them in place.
Could you do a video about getting your mailbox up at the correct (42-45 inches to the bottom) height? Now that spring is here, rural mail delivery drivers would really appreciate if you could do a post, about the height of a post for the mail box at the end of the drive. A LOT of people have a mailbox and get packages, so emphasizing the biggest box for sale at Home Depot for $25ish bucks would help the people packages not get ruined during the spring, and fall rain seasons. Also a custom package holding box out front of the house would be a quick, helpful, creative, and useful build. Thanks for all the videos!!
I've made one of these in the past using my own design and the key to getting the correct rocking action is to have the hanging hardware angled where the upper connections are set wider front to back than the lower connections. Today it costs a small fortune to build these projects.
I made this glider and attached hardware according to instructions but it is "stiff" and won't glide almost at all. Any advice on how to make the glider glide?
If you want your projects to last on the lawn. Make large round feet on the bottom. That you use half inch larger pieces of old tires screwed with brass or stainless. This keeps the feet high and dry by not having the feet sink into the lawn.
April, you're an excellent woodworker and things you make are very usable for many people. I do plan to purchase the plans for the glider that I've just seen but will have to use a bit cheaper lumber. Keep up the great work. Steve

Thank you so much for showing this video. I had been trying to figure out the base for a glider using your swing plans I have from you. This just gave me more direction as to how to build the base. Thanks April you are the bomb
Looks great! Too bad wood prices have gone through the roof. I used to make stuff all the time but wood prices have doubled here so I will have to wait to make more stuff and only do necessary repairs until then.
Lovely, the Glider is too, have you ever heard of running the screw in reverse before forward to burn the wood a little to keep it from splitting, i think predrilling is better and more professional, just wondering, love watching your videos!
Maybe it's worth noting that Rocker does (did) offer a router bit for making the tenons yourself: Rockler Beadlock® Tenon Router Bit - 3/8" Dia x 1-3/4" H x 1/2" Shank. But unfortunately they are out of stock now, for months, but will take reservations.
Nice project, but one comment: The way the tips of the seat ribs protrude, it looks as though you need one more slat at the front. Those rib ends don't look quite right, do they?
