Phantom Lifts: Following a Mythical Gondola from June to Mammoth

It’s rumored there was a plan to build a gondola between Mammoth and June Mountain. This rumor is true. In fact, it wasn’t just a gondola, the blueprint included 19 lifts in total, linking the two resorts. Longtime Eastern Sierra authority Gabe Taylor was curious as to the rideable terrain that lie within the relatively untapped topography. Joined by Frank Knab, Jimmy Goodman, Chris Wellhausen, Nick Schneider, Brian Sizer, and Greg Weaver, Gabe’s dream turned to reality as the crew slapped on their climbing skins and found cliffs, lips, and chutes along their trek.

this was already being skied in the late eighties/early nineties...I lived in June in 93-94, and it had already been done by a few locals

How many have skied and boarded the east facing slopes of Mount San Joaquin (11,480')? I June and Mammoth were linked via San Joaquin Ridge, it would create one of the most epic advanced terrain resorts on earth. But it would probably take an act of Congress to carve a large region out of Wilderness status....

Johnny inSeitz i don't think so. I read the article and it said they thought about it but now I don't think they could because it is protected land in between the two resorts. But I could be wrong.
