I live in Mammoth and grew up on this mountain. When you dropped into Felipes, I knew there has not been enough snow this season to make the rocks you have to clear easy. You split the rocks like a complete hero. Not much hesitation, and you made it look easy. I know first hand, that it was not. Kudos to your skills. Yes, Mammoth is underrated an not really known out side of southern CA circles.
Had to watch this one again, @sheepdawg6946 I think that's probably as steep as it gets for Mammoth and Lucas just skipped through the rocks like it was a groomer.
sorry for the late upload! my laptop kept crashing but after an OS update, it seems to be working .... for now. on a side note, mammoth is definitely one of the sickest places i've ever been to!
Hope the update fixed it. If you have never cleaned the fans on your laptop you should shoot some compressed air through the vents to clean all the dust off the heat sinks, it may be overheating. Overtime the compound between heat sinks and what they are cooling can shrink which causes the related items to not cool properly. The fix is disassembly and reapplication of the compound. These are just a couple possibilities if these symptoms continue in the future. Good luck!
Got a 1 year old in daycare, and stuck in the Midwest. An awesome ski trip is not in my near future plans, so I'll be living vicariously through these videos. Thanks for making them, and congrats on building this channel. Keep it up.
Don't worry AJ, enjoy the kids while you can! The time will fly by faster then you realize. Your time will come. Last of four just graduated college and moved out. Got back skiing 10 yrs ago after 15 yr hiatus. Just turned 59, plenty of time left! Cheers!
What Lucas is skiing is steeper than it appears. I've skied pretty much all these runs, great selections. What makes these runs pretty treacherous is the steepness and rocks all around you or trees. Thanks for the vid, brought back some of the most epic ski trip memories I've had to Mammoth. One trippy thing when you go to Mammoth is waking up to the dynamite blast, they use to eliminate avalanch risk after a good snowfall. Mammoth should definitely be on the bucket list for any advanced skier or beginner as well, they have runs for all levels of skiers. I highly recommend skiiing Dave's Run after a good snowfall, huge bowl near the top, backside of Mammmoth can have alot of uncut powder to find. If you get a chance DO GO TO Jacksonhole Wyoming my friends, you won't be disappointed, one of the best powder skiing experiences I've ever had. Cheers Lucas!!
I was worried about how you were going to navigate that narrow, rocky gap on Phillipe but you came through...and then you did it again! Nerves of steel! Mammoth is impressive. Great video!
The skis used these days crack me up! They're like water skis compared to my old downhill racing skis of the 70's and 80's! Gr8 vids! I sure do miss screaming down the slopes....get to relive it thru you guys' eyes/lens! Cheers! 🍻
Dude, Phillipe's is legendary and infamous for being one of the toughest lines at Mammoth. It's absolutely wild that you did it twice in one day! Next visit, check out Kiwi Flats (there are some great videos of it on youtube). It's one of the gnarliest inbounds lines in California and definitely the hardest at the Mammoth!
I don't know if the heart beat at 8:00 is real from the lapel mic or added in post but I felt that LOL!! What an awesome day. Follow cam in the trees is also sick... love that angle. Stay safe man! Hope the laptop gets its act together!!

Before 23 was built, you had to tuck from the gondola towards the chutes. No matter how fast you ony got partially up the hill, the rest you hiked or skated up. To build the chair they knocked about 15 fee off the top. It was verticle for 10-15 feet to get to the steeps. This was late 70's early 80's. Thanks to modern medicine and two new hips I'll be back there next month.
Awesome vid, Lucas! I started skiing Mammoth back in the early 60s when none of that terrain was accessible by chair. AAMOF, I was part of the crew that put in the first gondola up to the cornice in like about '66. It's since been replaced. I'll be back there in March '23, but I don't think I'll be doing your run! :)
If you come back at higher tide, try Kiwi Flats. It's above and looker's right of Philippe's, and merges into it. Get to it by continuing to traverse along the back of the ridge beyond Paranoids 3/4 (you approached from P3 and traversed through P4 the first time you hit Phillipe's, and then came straight down P4 the second). Nice runs - I've only dropped Phillipe's in low snow like that a few times and that gap is no joke. Some other things to try at higher tide are Werner's, Searby's, Junior's, Balls to the Wall, Varmit's Nest, Huevos, and Hangman's (in very roughly decreasing order of excitement, depending on snow) from Gondola 2. There's also a massive amount of stuff in the Dragon's Back and Wazoo areas, in between the lines that your skied. BTW I'm 99.9% sure that you actually skied the looker's-right-most Back chute at 13:00 rather than one of the two Head chutes. I had the same misconception about what I'd skied until a longtime local straightened me out. Other must-skis are the Avalanche Chutes and adjacent runs (esp between Avy2 and Avy3) off 22, and Hemlock Ridge on the backside. And then there are all sorts of secret hits and/or lift-accessed backcountry runs (I refuse to use the s-word). One of the things that I love most about Mammoth is that in addition to the challenging runs, it's a great place to just blast through wide open wind-buff as fast as you want. I used to ride that mountain on 213 cm Super-Gs (Derek in the race dept hooked a lot of people up with Wolf SGs back then), and they worked.
go to the gon dobbie get off skiers left ridge line above dragons tail 1/3 way down go right look for hole in the wall---you will end up at the lake---take the shuttle back, last run of the day
Sick video Lucas! You ripped Phillips! The first time I skied that run I went down it with my family not knowing that it usually has a mandatory drop! Lucky it was covered up when we hit it
I’m impressed you found Phillipe’s your first time at Mammoth. That line is no joke. I’ve been a Tahoe local for over 20 years, but Mammoth is one of my all time favorites for its good snow and steep, consistent terrain. I love your videos. You do a great job of capturing the essence of the ski areas.
I just skied Phillippe's for the first time last weekend with my nine-year-old son and I (not him) was scared shite-less. There was a lot more snow for us and I STILL didn't have the confidence to make a single turn until it opened up below. Granted, I'm a mediocre middle-aged man skier, so I'm only typing this to say that, from experience, this trail is SO MUCH STEEPER than it looks in these videos and that Lucas HANDLES IT LIKE A LEGEND! His two jumps through the rocks makes me want to vomit.
I was fortunate to ski Mammoth regularly from 2001 to 2018. You did a great job of capturing its offerings. And yes, chase a storm there and you'll be SO glad you did! Cheers from New Mexico
Amazing footage of Philippes. Jumping the band was very very impressive. I had to pick up someones skiis once right there. It did not work out well for him. But you made it look easy. Keep up the good content. Waiting to see you on Fantasy ridge/Solitude

Okay Mammoth looks sick, steeps, great snow, and I saw like nobody else there... I'm stoked to visit. Thanks for sharing, hope your laptop comes back to life!
man its so nice. however i do have to warn u. it gets really crowded, so you need to know where to go. if you stay around chair 23 it never gets super crowded even on the most crowded days. have fun man
Thanks for featuring my favorite chair in the world. I've been skiing Mammoth since 1978 when I was 11. Chair 23 was installed in 81 or 82. We were soooooooo stoked when we knew it was getting installed! Next time make sure you spend at least half a day on Chair 22.
I clicked out and climbed down the rocks at Philippes a couple of times but with good snow that makes a pretty cool jump. When it gets a little more snow, you wouldn't need to stop and would be going back again and again. It's a great steep rocky chute. Nice video.
Mammoth says they are the only true big mountain experience in California or maybe USA, something like that... not sure... never been there but it looks like it has a big face like the Alps and some crazy shoots meeting up to that big bowl face... You should try the backside of Tahoe, it's more little runs... Tahoe is definitely smaller shorter runs just from the trail map, but way more of them. That was some fast trees and funny with the random dude, be careful, ha ha... You should hit up Europe if you like that big face kind of thing like that... but I think USA has more snow than Europe. I'd love to hit that resort in France - Les 3 Vallees... I want to learn more about your Star Link setup...
Great video man! Glad you loved it, been boarding Mammoth for 20+ years and depending on how much snow there is sometimes you just can't get certain places. When there's a big dump, the Hemlock bowls can be pretty sick on the backside when there's just tons of snow. Lots of fun back there. Nice lines!
As a lift mechanic at mammoth back in the early 2000's Chiar 23 was one of my lifts. Skiing the "noids" pre public was the reward for shagging rime ice off that lift and shoveling out the upper terminal (which has some super sweet trap doors to dump the snow out of). Nice skiing.
Heck Yeahhhhhh "homie" slashing my local mtn Mammoth! Question, I will be riding for the first time Snowbird next month your neck of the woods! how would you say the two mountains compare? Keep the content rolling it is awesome! Your living your best life! Safe travels
the vertical at snowbird off the top of the tram is unmatched. 3k vert expert terrain top to bottom is pretty tough to rival. little cottonwood canyon can be tough to navigate so make sure you leave early in the morning.
Great video dude. I’m curious to see you hit this place on a powder, I’ve never really loved the powder snow there myself (Utah skier lol) so I’m curious what you think of it. I will say definitely try to hit this mountain later in the season for some spring skiing. Skiing soft corn snow off chair 23 on a warm day is where it’s at for me it’s so rippable. Unfortunately I’ve only hit 23 couple days because it’s closed a lot cuz mammoth gets tons of crazy weather lol
I am posting on my wifes account. Mammoth is the best. I started going there in 1985 in high school. Back then lift tickets were $20 a da along with big bear. Growing up in san diego we are spoiled,. Skied mammoth through college as well. Great video man.
Been skiing Mammoth all my life and you covered in a day what would take me a week. You deserve the Jacuzzi after that day. What an awesome way to live.
Mammoth is top 3 for me. You crushed it Lucas. You are probably one of 10 people that even tried Philippes cliff that day. Probably that week! Mammoth is calis best no doubt. That high elevation makes the snow so much better than the Tahoe area.
I'm so Jealous, I'm 13 BUT I LOVE SKIING and have always been on a race team. But I've always been stuck to the east coast and this year the southeast coast only as north as west virginia or Pennsylvania.
I am 65 and I have been skiing since I was a kid. Mammoth is my favorite go to mountain since I live in California. I have been skiing those steep runs at Mammoth starting back in the 70’s and we did not wear helmets back then and we used ski leashes with those very long thin skis. I took some wild scary falls when I was younger. I got into ski racing and I enjoyed that too. I miss skiing. Now that I am older I only ski a few times a year. I am glad you got to experience Mammoth. There is no place better after a fresh snow fall. Have a fun season.
Your camera angles are awesome! Would love to see a tutorial video on where you set up your camera using what mounts and extensors. I just watched some footage I got from my helmet and it’s either looking at my skis or the trail. Never had full range of view with my gopro10. I had it set up on my helmet the same as how I do it whitewater kayaking and it didn’t work.
You make everybody that can’t ski everyday happy to watch your videos to bring back memories and your also so nice to very viewer that you meet on the slopes thank you for making your videos and all the stoke you give!!!
never understood how riding somewhere like 5:20 is fun. Snow is horrendous and your skis are un edged as they flex in the couloir. Ill take the steeps and rocks, but you wont catch me there without 4-6" of fresh.
aye man just found the channel and love what youre doing and im a snowboarder! i thought of a video idea just to recap the new audience like myself where youre from where you grew up skiing when did your life on the road begin? stuff like that, keep it up man shout out to mammoth my home mountain glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks dude welcome! If the video isn’t about skiing, it doesn’t get watched haha. Stop by the live streams on Wednesday nights and we talk about stuff like that!
happy to hear how much you like mammoth!! feel like the mountain does not get its credit but it has some of the coolest terrain. 10 years of skiing it dozens of times and it never gets old
Wow, amazing video. How awesome to see Lucas shredding the mountain so many of us in the comment section grew up on and have been waiting patiently for. The heart beat the slow motion split at Philippes. Thank you Lucas. Bravo
If you want to take your breakfast game to another level try finding pasture raised eggs and grass-fed butter. The higher Omega 3s from the eggs and mineral rich butter will change your life. Nutrient dense foods are key. Excellent choice with the Bison.👍 Love the content🤙

Can we all appreciate how steep this terrain Lucas is skiing! Skiing narly double blacks and still having sick shots and insane footage
Haha thank you Josh. Just doing my duty
It's no joke! I have been using fatmap to check out what stuff he's been riding. It's STEEP...
Phillips' is a legit steep line!
The way you just charge into super steep areas with little to no recon. I’ve skied those areas for 40 years. You crushed Mammoth. Love the channel.
For real! Especially that little jump over those rocks. I personally didn't think that would be attemptable.

lots of walking back and forth haha
You definitely did Mammoth 🦣 a service by showing just a pinch of the goods. So much epic terrain - you shredded it properly 💯
Thank you John!

Thanks for featuring my favorite chair in the world. I've been skiing Mammoth since 1978 when I was 11. Chair 23 was installed in 81 or 82. We were soooooooo stoked when we knew it was getting installed! Next time make sure you spend at least half a day on Chair 22.
spent a good amount on chair 22 in other videos! sick chair
@@LucasCatania17 I just watched it. Awesome videos. Keep it up!
man, i thought i had a good home mountain but mammoth looks so f-ing sick dude. keep up the great work on the videos lucas we love to see them
Mammoth is next level. Thanks dude!
Lucas, you ski the gnarliest runs on the mountain everywhere you go. Nice to see what can be done but not by everyone.
thanks man!
Chair 23 good from now until July 4th. Most years. Awesome vid.
Sick! Gonna be back for sureb
Dude I’m so mad I didn’t see u. I was lapping 23 and the hemlocks yesterday.
Damn I was at the hemlocks yesterday!
I clicked out and climbed down the rocks at Philippes a couple of times but with good snow that makes a pretty cool jump. When it gets a little more snow, you wouldn't need to stop and would be going back again and again. It's a great steep rocky chute. Nice video.
thank you
Sick vid!!! Sent those chutes!
Trying to man!!
thanks for the awesome videos, I'm headed up there for a week and can't wait to check out this runs.
That’s awesome! Enjoy
Thanks man! Star link is legit
Hey Lucas, where did you get the gopro extension you use on your helmet?
I got it on Amazon!
Great video man! Glad you loved it, been boarding Mammoth for 20+ years and depending on how much snow there is sometimes you just can't get certain places. When there's a big dump, the Hemlock bowls can be pretty sick on the backside when there's just tons of snow. Lots of fun back there. Nice lines!
Thank you man! Definitely one of the sickest mountains I’ve ever been to
Many years at canyon lodge. What a great place to snowboard with my kids.
sick!!
That’s gnarly man! Nice one🤙
thank you!
As a lift mechanic at mammoth back in the early 2000's Chiar 23 was one of my lifts. Skiing the "noids" pre public was the reward for shagging rime ice off that lift and shoveling out the upper terminal (which has some super sweet trap doors to dump the snow out of). Nice skiing.
ah sick story!
As a snowboarder, I never ventured out to any of these areas in Mammoth. It looks so nice that I might try skiing just to see them LOL.
Unfortunately I’ve only hit 23 couple days because it’s closed a lot cuz mammoth gets tons of crazy weather lol

it was pretty fun on a pow day too!
I am posting on my wifes account. Mammoth is the best. I started going there in 1985 in high school. Back then lift tickets were $20 a da along with big bear. Growing up in san diego we are spoiled,. Skied mammoth through college as well. Great video man.
tahnk you!
Been skiing Mammoth all my life and you covered in a day what would take me a week. You deserve the Jacuzzi after that day. What an awesome way to live.
Thanks man! Was a sick day for sure
Mammoth is top 3 for me. You crushed it Lucas. You are probably one of 10 people that even tried Philippes cliff that day. Probably that week! Mammoth is calis best no doubt. That high elevation makes the snow so much better than the Tahoe area.
Thanks mark! Good to know! I was wondering why the snow seemed so good up there
I'm so Jealous, I'm 13 BUT I LOVE SKIING and have always been on a race team. But I've always been stuck to the east coast and this year the southeast coast only as north as west virginia or Pennsylvania.
keep the stoke up man!
Have a fun season.
wow thanks for sharing. appreciate the support from an experienced skier like yourself.

Sick vid as always! Mammoth & Chair 23 just look so narly! Keep it up and love the vids!
Thank you bro!
Great content brother! It's always entertaining to watch you shred!
Thank you Cody!
You make everybody that can’t ski everyday happy to watch your videos to bring back memories and your also so nice to very viewer that you meet on the slopes thank you for making your videos and all the stoke you give!!!
thank you for watching my friend!
Nice videos! I'm a big fan of Mammoth and go regularly. Did you mount the Gopro Max on the ski pole? How did you shoot those 360 videos?
gopro max on a long selfie stick
never understood how riding somewhere like 5:20 is fun. Snow is horrendous and your skis are un edged as they flex in the couloir. Ill take the steeps and rocks, but you wont catch me there without 4-6" of fresh.
i enjoy all riding conditions. it makes you a better skier.
aye man just found the channel and love what youre doing and im a snowboarder! i thought of a video idea just to recap the new audience like myself where youre from where you grew up skiing when did your life on the road begin? stuff like that, keep it up man shout out to mammoth my home mountain glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks dude welcome! If the video isn’t about skiing, it doesn’t get watched haha. Stop by the live streams on Wednesday nights and we talk about stuff like that!
And you did that when there was bad snow. Its even better with fresh snow!
Excited to watch this episode, it appears Chair 23 has some pretty intimidating terrain! Love the content! - Mark Walecka
Thanks mark! Chair 23 is the real deal!
are you planning on going to Jackson Hole this season!? Btw I love your videos!
Yes I’ll be up there eventually!
moblie tiar bit storage and empty extra programs off hard drive u need a bac channel alos rumble and yt tiktok peace
What
Used to ski Mammoth when it was $27; met founder Dave McCoy while mountain biking one summer.....
damn thats wild!
Look forward to your videos everyday, when one doesn’t drop I have to rewatch the one uploaded before. Do you still plan to hit up kirkwood?
Thanks Nolan! And yeah I’m here today
Duuudddeee. Your 1st day in Mammoth and you OWNED it. You did Phillipe's twice? You are an animal.
Thank you Gerald! I was having lots of fun out there!
Mammoth > every other resort in CA
yes Tahoe too
Mammoth is definitely sick!
happy to hear how much you like mammoth!! feel like the mountain does not get its credit but it has some of the coolest terrain. 10 years of skiing it dozens of times and it never gets old
super fun place
Wow, amazing video. How awesome to see Lucas shredding the mountain so many of us in the comment section grew up on and have been waiting patiently for. The heart beat the slow motion split at Philippes. Thank you Lucas. Bravo
thanks man! glad you enjoyed it.
If you want to take your breakfast game to another level try finding pasture raised eggs and grass-fed butter. The higher Omega 3s from the eggs and mineral rich butter will change your life. Nutrient dense foods are key. Excellent choice with the Bison.👍 Love the content🤙
So much more expensive tho
@@LucasCatania17 Ski equipment is expensive. A couple extra bucks for health benefits is easily justified
Great stuff man ! Loved it ! General question....who or what is out in front of you filming, how easy or difficult is that to do?
all solo shot man
As soon as you cut left up the spine to get in to Phillipe's that second time, I knew what your goal was. Maybe next time...
yup maybe. super steep right before the rock drop tho
