I live in Mammoth and grew up on this mountain. When you dropped into Felipes, I knew there has not been enough snow this season to make the rocks you have to clear easy. You split the rocks like a complete hero. Not much hesitation, and you made it look easy. I know first hand, that it was not. Kudos to your skills. Yes, Mammoth is underrated an not really known out side of southern CA circles.
Had to watch this one again, @sheepdawg6946 I think that's probably as steep as it gets for Mammoth and Lucas just skipped through the rocks like it was a groomer.
Got a 1 year old in daycare, and stuck in the Midwest. An awesome ski trip is not in my near future plans, so I'll be living vicariously through these videos. Thanks for making them, and congrats on building this channel. Keep it up.
Don't worry AJ, enjoy the kids while you can! The time will fly by faster then you realize. Your time will come. Last of four just graduated college and moved out. Got back skiing 10 yrs ago after 15 yr hiatus. Just turned 59, plenty of time left! Cheers!
sorry for the late upload! my laptop kept crashing but after an OS update, it seems to be working .... for now. on a side note, mammoth is definitely one of the sickest places i've ever been to!
Hope the update fixed it. If you have never cleaned the fans on your laptop you should shoot some compressed air through the vents to clean all the dust off the heat sinks, it may be overheating. Overtime the compound between heat sinks and what they are cooling can shrink which causes the related items to not cool properly. The fix is disassembly and reapplication of the compound. These are just a couple possibilities if these symptoms continue in the future. Good luck!
What Lucas is skiing is steeper than it appears. I've skied pretty much all these runs, great selections. What makes these runs pretty treacherous is the steepness and rocks all around you or trees. Thanks for the vid, brought back some of the most epic ski trip memories I've had to Mammoth. One trippy thing when you go to Mammoth is waking up to the dynamite blast, they use to eliminate avalanch risk after a good snowfall. Mammoth should definitely be on the bucket list for any advanced skier or beginner as well, they have runs for all levels of skiers. I highly recommend skiiing Dave's Run after a good snowfall, huge bowl near the top, backside of Mammmoth can have alot of uncut powder to find. If you get a chance DO GO TO Jacksonhole Wyoming my friends, you won't be disappointed, one of the best powder skiing experiences I've ever had. Cheers Lucas!!
The skis used these days crack me up! They're like water skis compared to my old downhill racing skis of the 70's and 80's! Gr8 vids! I sure do miss screaming down the slopes....get to relive it thru you guys' eyes/lens! Cheers! 🍻
I am 65 and I have been skiing since I was a kid. Mammoth is my favorite go to mountain since I live in California. I have been skiing those steep runs at Mammoth starting back in the 70’s and we did not wear helmets back then and we used ski leashes with those very long thin skis. I took some wild scary falls when I was younger. I got into ski racing and I enjoyed that too. I miss skiing. Now that I am older I only ski a few times a year. I am glad you got to experience Mammoth. There is no place better after a fresh snow fall. Have a fun season.
I was worried about how you were going to navigate that narrow, rocky gap on Phillipe but you came through...and then you did it again! Nerves of steel! Mammoth is impressive. Great video!
If you come back at higher tide, try Kiwi Flats. It's above and looker's right of Philippe's, and merges into it. Get to it by continuing to traverse along the back of the ridge beyond Paranoids 3/4 (you approached from P3 and traversed through P4 the first time you hit Phillipe's, and then came straight down P4 the second). Nice runs - I've only dropped Phillipe's in low snow like that a few times and that gap is no joke. Some other things to try at higher tide are Werner's, Searby's, Junior's, Balls to the Wall, Varmit's Nest, Huevos, and Hangman's (in very roughly decreasing order of excitement, depending on snow) from Gondola 2. There's also a massive amount of stuff in the Dragon's Back and Wazoo areas, in between the lines that your skied. BTW I'm 99.9% sure that you actually skied the looker's-right-most Back chute at 13:00 rather than one of the two Head chutes. I had the same misconception about what I'd skied until a longtime local straightened me out. Other must-skis are the Avalanche Chutes and adjacent runs (esp between Avy2 and Avy3) off 22, and Hemlock Ridge on the backside. And then there are all sorts of secret hits and/or lift-accessed backcountry runs (I refuse to use the s-word). One of the things that I love most about Mammoth is that in addition to the challenging runs, it's a great place to just blast through wide open wind-buff as fast as you want. I used to ride that mountain on 213 cm Super-Gs (Derek in the race dept hooked a lot of people up with Wolf SGs back then), and they worked.
As a lift mechanic at mammoth back in the early 2000's Chiar 23 was one of my lifts. Skiing the "noids" pre public was the reward for shagging rime ice off that lift and shoveling out the upper terminal (which has some super sweet trap doors to dump the snow out of). Nice skiing.
Just a quick shout out. I can't ell you how much I enjoy the videos. When I'm stressed I watch and take comfort in the fact that their are guys out there doing this. It motivates me. Thank You.
I am posting on my wifes account. Mammoth is the best. I started going there in 1985 in high school. Back then lift tickets were $20 a da along with big bear. Growing up in san diego we are spoiled,. Skied mammoth through college as well. Great video man.

I’m impressed you found Phillipe’s your first time at Mammoth. That line is no joke. I’ve been a Tahoe local for over 20 years, but Mammoth is one of my all time favorites for its good snow and steep, consistent terrain. I love your videos. You do a great job of capturing the essence of the ski areas.

I'll be back there in March '23, but I don't think I'll be doing your run! :)
Wow dude what a kickass mountain. Can't wait to check it out someday. You are really rolling man and with like 40 days already this season you have got to be feeling strong. Thanks for bringing us along on another great adventure on another awesome mountain! Thank you.
I clicked out and climbed down the rocks at Philippes a couple of times but with good snow that makes a pretty cool jump. When it gets a little more snow, you wouldn't need to stop and would be going back again and again. It's a great steep rocky chute. Nice video.
You picked the perfect time to visit Mammoth! To have this snow quality and no wind are rare days here. I have been up for a few days and some of the best conditions I have experienced in my close to 40 years skiing Mammoth. You absolutely killed those lines!
Aside from the professionals with camera crews, your vids are by far the best shot. I get a feel of how steep and also how lovely the views are. As a Minnesotan who only gets a trip or two out west per year, I live vicariously through your vids. Furthermore, most guys have the camera aimed at their feet or they're mediocre skiers embarrassing themselves. So I really appreciate the high quality. Finally, that gap you nailed at 8:35 (Philippe) was FKN SICK!!!
Started skiing Mammoth in 1960 . No chair # 23 back then . Only chairs 1 and 2 with chair 12 midway that took you to the Cornius .Over the years has always been my favorite. Wished I could have skiied like you . Inpressive video guy 👍
Great! You made it! When the snow in there gets wind-blown and wind-groomed, it's incredible. Now, to complete your experience, you *must* come back in May for the spring skiing. Do you like hot buttered corn (snow)? ☺️ It's incredible. If it's a good year, you can ski July 4th.... 👍😎
Whoa. That was the most exciting vid yet! I could hear your heart beating in your mic when you went down Philippe’s the first time; mine would have popped out of my chest. 🫣
Great video man! Glad you loved it, been boarding Mammoth for 20+ years and depending on how much snow there is sometimes you just can't get certain places. When there's a big dump, the Hemlock bowls can be pretty sick on the backside when there's just tons of snow. Lots of fun back there. Nice lines!
happy to hear how much you like mammoth!! feel like the mountain does not get its credit but it has some of the coolest terrain. 10 years of skiing it dozens of times and it never gets old
Where u went to get to dragons back, if u traversed farther you would have gotten to dragons tail which is a super nice steep narrow tree run with great snow.
SICK SICK SICK!!! Just wow Lucas. Man that was awesome. I don’t just mean the video. Hats off to you! Those chutes got tight and you handle them like a boss! Loved that behind POV through the tress as well. Great great vid! Safe travels!
Dude, Phillipe's is legendary and infamous for being one of the toughest lines at Mammoth. It's absolutely wild that you did it twice in one day! Next visit, check out Kiwi Flats (there are some great videos of it on youtube). It's one of the gnarliest inbounds lines in California and definitely the hardest at the Mammoth!
Sick video Lucas! You ripped Phillips! The first time I skied that run I went down it with my family not knowing that it usually has a mandatory drop! Lucky it was covered up when we hit it
I don't know if the heart beat at 8:00 is real from the lapel mic or added in post but I felt that LOL!! What an awesome day. Follow cam in the trees is also sick... love that angle. Stay safe man! Hope the laptop gets its act together!!
Okay Mammoth looks sick, steeps, great snow, and I saw like nobody else there... I'm stoked to visit. Thanks for sharing, hope your laptop comes back to life!
man its so nice. however i do have to warn u. it gets really crowded, so you need to know where to go. if you stay around chair 23 it never gets super crowded even on the most crowded days. have fun man
Nice to see what it's like up there on those double black diamond runs at Mammoth - I love skiing at Mammoth but I'm not good enough to ski down from the top. Thanks!
Lucas we will be skiing past July 4th most likely this year you will love the spring skiing then in the afternoon you can go hiking or other activities... two vacations in one ! Don't forget spring skiing Mount Baldy overlooking the ocean if you can make it in March
Mammoth is top 3 for me. You crushed it Lucas. You are probably one of 10 people that even tried Philippes cliff that day. Probably that week! Mammoth is calis best no doubt. That high elevation makes the snow so much better than the Tahoe area.
Amazing footage of Philippes. Jumping the band was very very impressive. I had to pick up someones skiis once right there. It did not work out well for him. But you made it look easy. Keep up the good content. Waiting to see you on Fantasy ridge/Solitude
It's been exactly 45 years since I did Felipe's. Lift tickets were 13$. My pass was 425$. You are right Mammoth is one of the best Mountains in California!!!!

Used to ski Mammoth when it was $27; met founder Dave McCoy while mountain biking one summer.....
damn thats wild!
SICK SICK SICK!!! Just wow Lucas. Man that was awesome. I don’t just mean the video. Hats off to you! Those chutes got tight and you handle them like a boss! Loved that behind POV through the tress as well. Great great vid! Safe travels!
Shawn! Thanks so much my friend. So stoked you like the video and your encouragement with the community as a whole. Appreciate you man.
Thanks for visiting my hometown 🤙!!!
its awesome!
great video! Happy New Year!
happynew year!
Haha I saw kiwi flats! Was definitely gonna try it but there’s not enough snow to ski it at the moment
@@LucasCatania17 Kiwi flats scares me just to look down!
I learned to ski on Mammoth. Glad you had fun Lucas, the top is so much higher than Tahoe, the wind pack stays around for a long time after a storm.
i noticed that! definitely enjoyed mammoth more than tahoe
Sick video Lucas! You ripped Phillips! The first time I skied that run I went down it with my family not knowing that it usually has a mandatory drop! Lucky it was covered up when we hit it
Haha damn dude what a gnarly surprise that woulda been. Way to crush it tho!!
I don't know if the heart beat at 8:00 is real from the lapel mic or added in post but I felt that LOL!! What an awesome day. Follow cam in the trees is also sick... love that angle. Stay safe man! Hope the laptop gets its act together!!
Haha thanks Dan. Added the heartbeat for dramatic effect :)
I just got back from Mammoth. I couldn’t imagine skiing down 23 with a 360cam (..I tried). Love your videos bro. Sick skiing!
thank you jeff!
Brave man. Tide still a little low and even steeper than it looks. Solid riding!
thanks josh
when your skiing at 4:30 sec, the narrow peak, your nuts LOL. good job.... 🍿👍
hah thanks mike!
Wow..just wow an incredible video and the terrain is sick. I can see how you can fantasize about this. (Very steep)
Thanks bro!
Great video man!
thank you!
man, i thought i had a good home mountain but mammoth looks so f-ing sick dude. keep up the great work on the videos lucas we love to see them
Mammoth is next level. Thanks dude!
Okay Mammoth looks sick, steeps, great snow, and I saw like nobody else there... I'm stoked to visit. Thanks for sharing, hope your laptop comes back to life!
man its so nice. however i do have to warn u. it gets really crowded, so you need to know where to go. if you stay around chair 23 it never gets super crowded even on the most crowded days. have fun man
@@codyellsworth5053 Great to know, I appreciate you!
Yes dude highly highly recommend! Kind of blew me away!!
finally my mere presence is in a video
I adore Mammoth & the Eastern Sierra as a hiker, but just loved watching you ski like a crazy (talented) guy !!
It’s so beautiful out here for sure!
Glad you enjoyed our mountain.
great mountain
The BIGGEST drop in this video is Lucas letting us know he plans on getting his skis TUNED UP!!! LFG STOKE SQUAD!!!
Haha knew you’d like that one
@@LucasCatania17 Gotta take care of the Stoke Elk, He takes care of you brother🙏
8:00 Heartbeat on the chest rig was such a trip lol.
🙌🏽
makes me wanna start skiing but maybe later in life when i get my racks up lol
thanks for the awesome videos, I'm headed up there for a week and can't wait to check out this runs.
That’s awesome! Enjoy
Nice to see what it's like up there on those double black diamond runs at Mammoth - I love skiing at Mammoth but I'm not good enough to ski down from the top. Thanks!
thanks for watching!
the secondhand stoke is so pure
Secondhand stoke love it
Lucas we will be skiing past July 4th most likely this year you will love the spring skiing then in the afternoon you can go hiking or other activities... two vacations in one ! Don't forget spring skiing Mount Baldy overlooking the ocean if you can make it in March
Looks like you need to use rock skis for the run. It looks fun. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to ski Mammoth. Thanks for sharing this video!
Sick vid!!! Sent those chutes!
Trying to man!!
Mammoth is top 3 for me. You crushed it Lucas. You are probably one of 10 people that even tried Philippes cliff that day. Probably that week! Mammoth is calis best no doubt. That high elevation makes the snow so much better than the Tahoe area.
Thanks mark! Good to know! I was wondering why the snow seemed so good up there
Amazing footage of Philippes. Jumping the band was very very impressive. I had to pick up someones skiis once right there. It did not work out well for him. But you made it look easy. Keep up the good content. Waiting to see you on Fantasy ridge/Solitude
thanks man! made a few solitude videos but not fantasy ridge yet
Sick vid as always! Mammoth & Chair 23 just look so narly! Keep it up and love the vids!
Thank you bro!
Ive never been skiing but this makes me want to go it seems like hella fun, and its a sport where I won't get clowned for wearing a helmet
Anyone clowns you for wearing a helmet is a clown themselves.
It's been exactly 45 years since I did Felipe's. Lift tickets were 13$. My pass was 425$. You are right Mammoth is one of the best Mountains in California!!!!
aye man just found the channel and love what youre doing and im a snowboarder! i thought of a video idea just to recap the new audience like myself where youre from where you grew up skiing when did your life on the road begin? stuff like that, keep it up man shout out to mammoth my home mountain glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks dude welcome! If the video isn’t about skiing, it doesn’t get watched haha. Stop by the live streams on Wednesday nights and we talk about stuff like that!
@8:20 the heartbeats were on point 😂 followed by the guy applauding you 🤗
Hahah it all worked out nicely
Great video! I really liked the intensity of the threading the needle on phillipes
Thank you mark!
Dude, you can ski! Love watching you navigate those trees. Great video!
thank you cole!
that section on phillipe's was insane
It was pretty gnarly for sure!
Ripping! That whole chair 23 side is epic on a pow day. Back on chair 14 or off the backside of the gondola there are some sick zones if you’re willing to hike a bit.
Thanks dude! Hit 14 the next day but backside of the gondola sounds fun!
Dooode omg … Phillipe’s was NASTY. That jump you had to take to get past those rocks. Bravo. I can’t wait to get out there.
Thanks dude! Definitely one of the sicker chutes I’ve done!
Damn. Be safe out there. That was one of the gnarliest lines ive seen you take in the last 2 seasons
Thanks dude. Definitely up there with one of my best
