+J.M It also doesn't include any sort of network port or Internet controller. All of these things would complicate design down to the motherboard level, and increase cost
i got lucky enough to find 2 of these after they were discontinued at my local Walmart, i kept one and gave one to my dad because he grew up with the Nintendo
It's a Christmas Miracle today. After waiting for so long avoiding the temptations from the scalpers and scammers. I have finally found my own NES Classic.
I'm so happy that I got this for Christmas! I've wanted one so badly ever since I heard about it from my dad. I never realized that my parents had went out and bought one just for me on the day of its release. They just kept it and decided to hide it until Christmas. When I opened it and saw the NES logo I nearly flipped out because I was so happy.
Yes welcome to the world of NES hard. That's one of the cool things back in the day, even if you were playing a 1 player game like Zelda 2, Ghosts and Goblins or Castlevania, you could have a room full of your friends and pass the controller around when you die. It was just as fun to watch your friend beat a hard level as it was to do it yourself back then.
I love how they keep fighting over the console (keeps switching hands) while talking about it. It's like instinct to want to hold it because it's so cool.
Nintendo missed a great opportunity, because they could have put all the games on one cartridge and we could have insert the games just like on a real Nes.
I wonder if there is a way to add more games to it. Still, having an NES and a Wii hacked to paly retro games and now I can get a the classic controller to play NES games with.
You can add like 5 or 600+ games on the NES classic mini, how? If you got a pc atleast you can download certain software for it and get al those from the internet box art included! There are a lot of tutorials on youtube about it.
Everyone complains about the length of the cord, but you need to have the console close to you to get back to the menu, so best off to just buy a really long HDMI instead of buying the extension cables.
i understand it's a nice chrismas gift for a nostalgic casual player, but let's be honest; an hardcore old-school gamer can easily have the entire NES virtual-library with few investment.
It should have had Rad Racer. That is my favorite NES game and Nintendo owns the rights to it. Also, Bionic Commando, Rygar, Gun.Smoke, Pro Wrestling should be there. Although, I would go with Adventure Island II over Adventure Island because in part 2 you can ride dinosaurs.
RetroUSB AVS is awesome, 100% compatibility, and fantastic extra sprites option which remove problem with stuff dissapearing from the screen when lot of stuff is going on (technodrome level in TNMT)
I've heard the sad news that the NES Classic Edition is going be discontinued by the end of April. That means this little itty bitty console is going to be worth a lot of money. By the end of summer, this can be worth thousands of dollars.
To be clear, the NES Classic Edition has 512 MB of internal flash storage, and 256 MB of RAM. RAM is not used for storage. The entire collection of US-released NES games, uncompressed, is smaller than 128 MB, meaning you could fit the entire library on the device four times over. Also, the Micro USB port on the back is only wired for power, so you could not add more games to it from here, at least not without some heavy modification to the device. If you were going to do that, it would probably be easier to just take the internals out entirely and wire up a Raspberry Pi within the case. With that said, it does seem just feasible that Nintendo could release additional games for the device to be directly loaded onto the console through the controller ports, if the operating system has the capacity to support it. But it seems unlikely that this would happen, as Nintendo is undoubtedly aware that hackers would almost certainly be able to reverse-engineer this type of technology to create a means of loading illegally obtained ROMs onto the device.
Does SMB behave the same as how it would on the NES? I wanna get into SMB speed running but I'm afraid that the NES mini might not play SMB the same way the NES does (with the glitches, framerate, hitboxes, and all).
For those who haven't obtained one: Don't give up! They are slowly but certainly being replenished in retail stores. I finally got one from Target yesterday.
Hello, I'm from the future of 2018 July, Europe. They released the exact same thing again. Before it became scarce I had a chance to buy it, I've passed, after the release of SNES Classic, I've bought it, and was avare of why it's good. So this time I've picked it up. And I'm happy with it. Not as good, but still fun.
7:07 "the chip in here has like 256 gigs" Please if you're going to have someone like this on a reputable gaming channel, at least make him read about what he's talking about on the show, so he doesn't just sit there and talk bullshit the entire episode.
I imagine the reason the system outputs 720p is it's a perfect 3x upscale from the original 240p resolution. Upscaling to 1080p requires a bit more thought into how you are going to handle the less convenient ratio; do you use half-pixels causing blur, or do you use non-uniform pixel size, causing bars that are easily visible on scrolling textures? Either way, it should definitely be an option instead of relying on the upscaling in people's TVs.
To get the 4:3 ratio you're looking for, the NES Classic actually has a video option for this. You can choose square pixels or 4:3 depending on your preference. I'm not sure where you're going with dividing ratios into decimals... horizontal resolution can be adjusted and that's built into the device.
I can understand why DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Ranger aren't on the NES Classic, it's because they had already been re-released on PS4 as "The Disney Afternoon Collection."
Nintendo almost makes me think they take a cut from scalpers, considering how much they help them out. Let's release this really popular thing in small quantities. That way our long time fans, (who this is supposed to be for). Won't be able to get one unless they pay out the ass online. Bravo Nintendo, another winning decision...
Instead of different colors, they need to do toploader and Famicom versions. Instead of using the same games as the Japanese Famicom mini they can fill it with games that we missed, like Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Earthbound Beginnings, Super Mario Bros 2 (AKA SMB Lost Levels AKA SMB For Super Players), etc.
To me I find it weird not including Castlevania 3 when they got 1 & 2 in there, and CV4 will be on the SNES Mini. Castlevania fans will be like "wish I had CV3 to complete the collection"
I find it funny that people are impressed with how small this thing is when we have Raspberry Pi's which are a lot smaller more capable, and have been out for years now.
A two-foot controller wire?
In the words of the Nerd: "What were they THINKING?"
Look at the guys fighting for holding the mini hahaha
Whoever holds the mini nes........ Holds the power!
That burp at 1:52 and that look on his face afterwards is just fantastic
Nice catch A+
Super funny how these two guys keep grabbing the device off each other.
I love how Mike and Ryan keep grabbing the NES from each other when they talk.
James promoting a brown NES mini with 30 LJN games would be awesome
3:55 Mike grabs the box to look at it again
Ryan takes it right back lol
Who else wants an NES Classic: AVGN "Shitty Games" Edition?
It's really a matter of preference. All of my favorite NES games are on the Classic Edition, so I definitely want one.
They keep trying to grab nes back and forth from each other
This is why there is absolutely NO problem playing Nintendo ROM's
I think its funny how they keep taking the system from eachother
If you watch the video on MUTE, one might think they're almost fighting as to which one gets to hold the console lol
"They didn't even think about having an SD card slot." Oh, I *guarantee* you that they thought about it and that is precisely why it doesn't have one.
Emmett Turner Just another confusing decision by Nintendo
Mid by Northwest They could release their own legit version or allow Nintendo VC downloads to an SD card as they implemented into the Wii.
+J.M It also doesn't include any sort of network port or Internet controller. All of these things would complicate design down to the motherboard level, and increase cost
Mid by Northwest Maybe so, but eventually another one will come out, given how well this has done.
Watching you two fight over who holds the Nintendo while talking was the best part of this review.
"Dont sit so close to the tv kids!" "But mom, Nintendo didnt make the cords long enough!" xD
Watching them fight over who was gonna hold it was the best part of this video.
Urban Struggle another urban lol
I'd suggest y'all ignore that ad for Full Sail. Your pockets will thank me.
I like how you guys keep trying to grab it from each other...my turn!
i got lucky enough to find 2 of these after they were discontinued at my local Walmart, i kept one and gave one to my dad because he grew up with the Nintendo
I love it when they keep passing the items to each other in a seamless fashion along with top notch hand gesturing in-between. 🤗
I just can't get over the 30 inch controller cable. I need more!
It's a Christmas Miracle today. After waiting for so long avoiding the temptations from the scalpers and scammers. I have finally found my own NES Classic.
Good stuff. Wish I could find one of these damn things. Smoke you, Amazon!
3:56 "Give to me" "Give back to me"
If there's going to be an SNES-Mini, I'm sold.
same here. I'd prefer the SNES classic mini
Drinking game idea: Drink every time they take the console from each other.. ;-)
DarkHalf I was going to comment on that observation too. haha.
What is amazing, that besides the connector issues with the original nes 001, is how robust all the equipment is. The controllers especially.
Taven Webb ur lucky to have received it for xmas, their selling like crack. Just got mine today on a random trip to wal mart
I'm 20 and never played alot of old school games so I bought one and man...these games are hard as hell! Lol
Welcome to my generation.
Yeah that's their only lifespan. Or else they would be done in a couple of hours.
Tetris *was* "system-defining"... for the Game Boy.
Guy on the right look like he gonna run for mayor of Gotham.
Carl Weathers lmao Devito really left his mark
I love how they keep fighting over the console (keeps switching hands) while talking about it. It's like instinct to want to hold it because it's so cool.
The awkwardness of you two grabbing the mini-nes from each other to talk about it made me laugh my ass off.
figured i was the only one that thought so...
zxczxczxc7240
nope!
one thing about the manual: I would love to have them in the console.
why u should view them on the phone?
I can't believe this Mini NES is missing 7 Grand Dad. That's just insane. It's such a classic game too!
TimmyTheRetroGamer Grand... Dad?
Nintendo missed a great opportunity, because they could have put all the games on one cartridge and we could have insert the games just like on a real Nes.
blameitonjoe. You're right. But with the new technologies they could have make a cartridge that could have all those games.
@@snko92 it would be a package composed of a modern cartridge and a custom, new system.
@@snko92 if things like flash carts are able to run multiple games then i dont see how it wouldnt work
Mine came in the mail this afternoon! Thank you, Amazon UK!
Also just got one, distribution has been fixed!
NES Classics at every Target & Walmart now. F'n yay , bout damn time.
Matt Loebig yeah i got one also.
I got an snes classic I'm planning on getting nes classic later down the line
Maybe they'll do a rainbow version of the NES mini and it will just have LJN games on it, LOL.
yeah, and a power glove instead of the controller
Holy fuck, no!
Dear god please no
That awkward feel when they subconsciously battle over who holds the console the entire video
lol!
Was thinking the same thing. *No, I wanna hold it.* *No, me, It's mine*...
Byteblock Yea...what a fun...
Thanks for the video. I found it very informative. BTW it was funny watching the two of you constantly grabbing the console from each other. LOL
If Nintendo was smart, they would release mini versions of the SNES and N64.
I like how there was a subtle war of who gets to hold the console xD.
I wonder if the NES Classic 2, that might come out, will be modeled after the NES Top Loader...
The way these guys are passing the NES Mini back in forth, it's like whomever holds it has talking rights. :)
*Mike grabs it for a second* *Ryan's like GIMMI BACK while he keeps talking*
The CPU clock speed may be higher than the Wii, but that doesn't make it more powerful.
I wonder if there is a way to add more games to it. Still, having an NES and a Wii hacked to paly retro games and now I can get a the classic controller to play NES games with.
3:58 you can see that he didn't want to hand over the nes
You can add like 5 or 600+ games on the NES classic mini, how? If you got a pc atleast you can download certain software for it and get al those from the internet box art included! There are a lot of tutorials on youtube about it.
Douche bag re-sellers are the main problem with this system. Charging x3 the MSRP is ridiculous!
Lol the broken controller. This brings back memories of my older neighbour getting angry at Castlevania II and spitting on his TV
"The Adventures of Lolo!"
Casuals: The what?
Everyone complains about the length of the cord, but you need to have the console close to you to get back to the menu, so best off to just buy a really long HDMI instead of buying the extension cables.
Ryan kinda looks like what i Imagine would be a grown up Eric Cartman.
i understand it's a nice chrismas gift for a nostalgic casual player, but let's be honest; an hardcore old-school gamer can easily have the entire NES virtual-library with few investment.
It should have had Rad Racer. That is my favorite NES game and Nintendo owns the rights to it. Also, Bionic Commando, Rygar, Gun.Smoke, Pro Wrestling should be there. Although, I would go with Adventure Island II over Adventure Island because in part 2 you can ride dinosaurs.
and then we get the NES Mini: AVGN Edition which contains every shitty NES game
I would actually buy that!
Jokes on you Nintendo... I emulate!
But does it have blast processing?
with an allwinner quadcore cpu I guess it has blast processing
There should be a SNES Classic Edition too.
To be clear, the NES Classic Edition has 512 MB of internal flash storage, and 256 MB of RAM. RAM is not used for storage. The entire collection of US-released NES games, uncompressed, is smaller than 128 MB, meaning you could fit the entire library on the device four times over.

From what I can visibly tell, there are no changes
the super mario bros is the exact same game as the original along with 2 and 3
There should be a version of this that only has action 52 in it
Jack Mcslay
Lol i can see the sellingpoint on the box already...
COMES WITH 52 GAMES!!!
+WH250398 51 games*...Good luck getting Alfredo to run
Dylan Vigil
lol
I like how they keep grabbing the device from each other constantly lol.
11:37
That's not the Famicom Disk System connector port, that's the port for the additional Famicom peripherals...
That cable is as long as Mike's solid snake.
I wish it had paperboy
Nintendo confirmed that the mini Virtual Boy is next. Comes boxed with mini headaches
That's good to know.
For those who haven't obtained one: Don't give up! They are slowly but certainly being replenished in retail stores. I finally got one from Target yesterday.
iamxeracon my dad got one for me it was about 139$ for a bid
SNES Classic Edition?!? Yes please!
I really wanted to buy one to actually play it. Unlike the jerks that bought them all up just to resell them on eBay for $300 and more
Welcome to the world of "Limited Edition"
JLynnsanity y How do you prevent such a thing? Ask "Do you intend to resell this item?" upon checkout? It's pretty much out of their hands
just get an actual Nintendo. i thought it'd be cool to get but Nintendo and scalpers are fucking dicks so yeah I'm sticking to my actual nes
Hello, I'm from the future of 2018 July, Europe.

while you made this comment I was playing super Mario kart for the snes lol
@13:50 I think your trying to make the nerd have a heart attack. lmao
The best option is downloading the entire nes library 📚.
7:07 "the chip in here has like 256 gigs" Please if you're going to have someone like this on a reputable gaming channel, at least make him read about what he's talking about on the show, so he doesn't just sit there and talk bullshit the entire episode.
well, at least every reviewer on RUclips got one to show us normal people what we are missing. thanks..
That's what they're there for
I imagine the reason the system outputs 720p is it's a perfect 3x upscale from the original 240p resolution. Can't believe they included Simon's Quest and not Dracula's Curse 😌
whoever the big guy is should've handed the NES to Mike at 8:50
Great now I can play Mario with a nunchuck
I can understand why DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Ranger aren't on the NES Classic, it's because they had already been re-released on PS4 as "The Disney Afternoon Collection."
you can mod an nes classic and add more games
Like for evasing a tricky grammar example right there! :) My soul thanks thee!
Is it also brought to you in part by the fact that Full Sail is expensive as shit?
Does this have Pacman & can you play 2 players
yes
Yes and yes
13:55 Imagine if Nintendo end up doing that. James would be like "What were they thinking?!", lol.
They should bring out another NES mini with all the LJN games on it.
SO many people would buy it just because it's the cool thing to buy. Those poor people :P
I scalp and buy Nintendo stock shares on the stock exchange :)
i.m.o. we can do more with a Raberry pie with Retropie as well as same as this console and more!

I agree. 3 is my favorite. I know its not a snes game, but I wish they would put in on the snes classic along with part 4.
wheres battletoads? or TMNT 1,2,3?????
I cant wait to get my hands on one my Entire childhood was fond memories of the Classic Nes Games and they are all on one mini game system PERFECT
Why not just buy the NES Mini and add more games in it? Is really easy
That cord,.. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????
CapnPicard Theres already a third Party wireless controller out there to get.
Yeah, controller cables need to be 6-8 feet long.
I find it funny that people are impressed with how small this thing is when we have Raspberry Pi's which are a lot smaller more capable, and have been out for years now.
Joseph Holliday, I think they are suprised by their size, only and only because they compare it to the original console.
@11:28 Did Ryan just flip everyone off while talking about the Retro USB?
Now 4 years later we have the Covid pandemic and cant even buy a PS5 or Xbox SX xD
Plandemic.
Nintendo somehow thinks that by making a product hard to buy they'll somehow make more money. Makes sense.
