Loving my leaf filter. Check it after every rain and it never fails to disappoint me!
Thank you for sharing.
Love this channel
We appreciate your support.
Thank you for watching.
Instal looks nice and clean, also to clean out the line doesn’t seem like it can get easier than that!
Love your content. Have you done any systems where the gutter doesn't have a traditional downspout Ave instead has rain chairs?
No, I have not.
You are the man! You've convinced me to do my own French drain and gutters, I'm literally in the middle and (wishing I'd just paid you to do it...) the guy who dug it went too deep so I'm filling it up to get my angle for it to drain, but the ground is sooo squishy! Is there something I can do to firm up the trench so I know it won't sink and sag?
To do it correctly, you need to fill it in and level it out with small stones. Now that the dirt has been loosened up, it is going to sag and settle. And you are going to end up with what is known as a belly in your system. Sorry to break the bad news, but hopefully you can get some small pea stone and pack it in where it is all squishy.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN well, I really appreciate the answer! Might end up call y'all to rescue me at this rate! :)
Just thought two of your 5 inch basins that connect to 4inch sch 40 pvc. Do I just push the pvc end straight into the inside and wrap with the tape? Or do I need an adapter to connect properly?
If it fits the bell end of Schedule 40.
What if I don't drill holes in the catch basin? (Boston area) and any type of copper sulfate brand you like best?
No particular brand is needed when it comes to the copper sulfate. Use whatever is available in your area. You do not need to put holes in a catch basin. That is arguably one of the most debated topics when it comes to inline catch basins on a downspout run. It could be argued that even after putting holes in the catch basin, once it fills with sediment (if the sediment is not a permeable sediment), the water can't leach away through those holes anymore unless you constantly keep it clean. Another side note is that I designed this catch basin so that if it freezes solid with ice, the top portion replaces a section of the pipe. As long as you have it on some sort of slope or daylighting (somewhere where the grade drops off), the pipe and the top of the catch basin will not hold any water to freeze.
How do you guys typically dig the trenches when there are sprinkler lines in the yard? Does it just have to be by hand with shovels?
Hand digging by a sprinkler line is recommended.
Do you guys do work in Sterling Heights MI?
Yes, call 248-505-3065.
Hey FRENCH DRAIN MAN, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made.
I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel
I have someone doing those tasks now, but I do need someone who can edit podcasts efficiently. That seems to be the problem area for my team. Call 248-505-3065 and leave a message if you are skilled at this. Also include your hourly rate.
Wish you were in the Central TX area.
We have a guy in Texas. Call our main office for his number. 248-505-3065
I’m from macomb township and do I need permits to diy pvs downspouts? It will be 7 total 3 with your catch basin into pop up and 4 with another belly basin and popup, All 4in pipe. Thx
No permits are required.
I need a similar job done. Any idea who in the Chicagoland area can help?
Yes, you can reach our office at 248-505-3065.
If you are doing two houses next to each other with 4 downspouts, isn't a 3" pipe too small.
And how come you don't you pvc? It's smooth, so better water flow, right?

How long does the sulfur last to keep the roots away?
No one knows for sure. I advise you to consider the way we are putting it down. It will get you a few years right off the bat with no issues, and it takes trees a few more years to get established. You probably don't have to worry about those roots for 10 years. I know when they flush copper sulfate through plumbing lines, it kills roots in the lines, and they will flush it down the line every 6 months. So imagine if you just had the soil saturated with copper sulfate.
I installed your system last weekend but as a DYI I am wondering if I created a bit of a problem. In Canada, there wasn't a 3" version of the non quite a 90 popup. I used your 3inch "T" popup at the end. I have a very flat yard, my slope on the pipe (50 foot run) forced me to use 3 of your extensions at that T pop-up. Do you see any issues using that many extenders at the popup? Obviously it would take some serious rain/velocity to popup with that many extenders. Thanks for any advice.
I have 2 rain spouts going into the 3" mainline pipe to that 1 t-popup.
Would you recommend putting some large rocks at the bottom of the popup ? We had a decent rain yesterday but the t-popup just drained into the ground.
Yeah, I don’t like that many extensions. I’ll run a line completely flat before I put on extensions like that.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN I ran a garden hose on each leaf cleanout at the spouts (2 total). It does work when I have a lot of water moving through the system! I could try to remove 1 of the extenders (from 3 to 2) if I flatten out the land around the popup. Another tip for any DYI reading this, if on flat land, careful the catch basins arent too low or too much on the same grade as your popup or it could fill up and backwash through the grate on the catch basin. I am going to dig one up and lift it a bit and maybe add an extender there.
How much should a system exactly like this cost complete, out the door? I'm needing a frame of reference for getting bids local.
