It PAINS me how slow the Clawstrider is. I was so excited to be able to ride one, but when I discovered it couldn't sprint like a Charger, I was horribly disappointed. I hope in the next game or DLC they let you ride more machines.
I hope so too! I don’t expect to ride something like a Thunderjaw by any means, but a Stalker would be cool! Or even a Trampler from Zero Dawn
Yeah but the Clawstrider makes up for it by being a sheer badass. I set mine to aggressive and he's always looking for a fight, and hasn't lost one yet lol. They're definitely faster than the other machines too, just not while you're mounted on them.🙁

Sunwing is the only mount I’d ever need. It’s the fastest of all for the simple reason that it can bypass just about every mountain. Without deviation.

I wonder how fast the Sunwing is in a dive? I also note that the Sunwing and the Bristleback get the blur effect when you are holding the X down, Clawstrider does not.

@@unknown_2552 you know how fast the sunwing goes 200 steps so fly up for that long. Go double the height for ease if diving is a faster speed. Then you should be able to get a diving speed if you get to the ground quicker if double distance along ground would take.
Honestly machine riding needs to be more of a thing, there are so many machines that are not only big enough to ride, but also have the space on their backs to do so. Like come on lemme ride a Behemoth into battle 😭

Clawstrider is not a mount for traverse, sadly. However, its combat power is much higher than the other mounts.
I wish that you could keep and modify your mounts. Level them up like in RDR2 and unlock better speeds and maybe weapons etc. Would make for a cool dynamic and a reason to go back to certain mounts. You already have a base so just make one of the rooms a modification chamber. Mix and match parts from different machines to make something really cool!
That would be awesome! I'd love to put a Stalker's rifle on the front of the Sunwing
Without Hefestus,I am unsure unlocking better speeds and weapons would be lore accurate without really,really good explanation.
Unless you mean unlocking all existing attacks.

@@GameslordXY well, here's an explanation. Apollo. Surely she could find the required knowledge in his database. Gaia hereself migth already know something that could help. After all, she already knew how to make a robotic arm before she had access to apollo. Who knows. Maybe in the next dlc? ^_-

Charger got cheated, manually controlling the mounts instead of having them follow the road would yield different results. Also, tapping the x button speeds the mounts up faster than holding the x button does. Clawstrider is slow asf regardless. But charger would take the top spot for the land mounts.
Manually controlling the mounts means the Sunwing is fastest by default. It bypasses all terrain features without losing speed.

The devs use metric so it's likely the bristleback, charger, and sunwing are programmed to move at 40km/h and the clawstrider is programmed to go 25 km/hr
But aren't they americans ?
How they know to use the metric system ?

I'm a little surprised. I thought they were slower than Chargers.
I also suspect that Sunwing, Charger and Bristleback are actually all the same speed, and that the slight differences in time is more to do with player reaction time and controller latency etc.

Pretty damn much. The times here are just "margin of error". The game's code more than likely has the 3 of them at the same speed.
Bristlebacks are as fast as chargers but much stronger, however, in certain terrains, like the forests with trees and all those obstacles, the Charger navigates through them better.
The Sunwing is as fast as both of them and can literally go anywhere, cross seas and ignore obstacles, however, the Sunwing has 0 use for combat.
The Clawstrider is the slowest but the strongest, by far, in combat.
So IMO all 4 mounts are balanced. The Sunwing though is definitely the most useful, since we can do the combat on our own, although I do admit the Clawstrider, especially the elemental ones, can be a huge help in defeating other machines quickly, or just them doing all the work for you and thus you won't have to waste ammo/resources at all on killing other machines (unless they are heavyweight classes at which the Clawstrider gets outmatched).

I use my Clawstrider more as a distraction than a mount. It's the slowest but in combat it's super helpful.
I was surprised with how much better it was in combat than the other mounts. I knew it would be better for sure, but it’s leagues ahead in agility and strength

Awesome video! You confirmed my suspicions about the Bristleback being faster than the Charger. I thought the Sunwing would edge it out a little too. Well, the Sunwing has one advantage, it can fly. Can't wait to see more machine spotlight videos from you. Don't forget the Spectre!

Unfortunately not! I believe you’re referring to the Strider (the horse) and the Broadhead (the bull). I could live without the strider, but I liked the Broadhead a lot in Zero Dawn
I mean, this us hardly conclusive findings. Simple pathing or other factors could play a role in the results.
And the flying one is going to, generally, be faster just by virtue of being able to flying in a straight line. Unhindered by terrain.
He was going left and right with the Charger,essentially making the trip longer.
He did the same with Bristleback,but not to same extent.
i KNEW the bristleback was fastest on land lol. but also: the sunwing actually deals with, like, gravity and wind resistance so it goes faster when it's not so close to the ground
True! And the Sunwing doesn’t have to deal with obstacles on the ground at all
I did notice that the Clawstrider doens't lose a lot of velocity when you use your focus, but that's it. You trade the running speed for a better walking speed while using the focus to highlight animals or other stuff while on mount.

Clawstrider was not a mount created to travel, it was quite clearly designed to be a force to help you in combat. An Acid/Fire Clawstrider with all of the Machine Skill Tree buffs and the legendary Tenakth Tactician perks and weaves is indeed an extremely powerful machine to be on your side at all times.
When sometimes I encounter like 5 or 6 humans at level 50 that downed the Slaughterspine in the beach, I use the Acid Clawstrider to get rid of them, and he rips all 5 of them, where I would have a massive struggle against since I can't even kill them with silent strikes unless I use a Valor... And no way am I wasting Valor on puny humans, let my mate Clawstrider do the work... Its what it was designed for.
The Stormbird would probably be the best mount. And I've noticed also that the time to override the Stormbird is a lot higher than any other machine for some reason.

I definitely take the long way on Sunwing to destinations now rather than fast traveling. It such a beautiful world especially from an aerial view!
I always wanted to "upgrade" the mounts
It didnt need to me something complicated.
One simple thing they could have done is that your mount can carry just 1 heavy weapon (with limited ammo). when your mount fighting at least you have an extra option of an attack or you can dismount and use it normally.
I always had a problem with the heavy weapon since once your prey is defeated and you still have another heavy weapon to spare, you unfortunately have to leave it. Its sad
Thank you soo much for this ive always wondered which one truely is the fastest. Especially because the sunwings speed seems really inconsistent, like sometimes it feels like im soaring and sometimes it feels like im going as fast as a glide
You’re very welcome! The one advantage for the Sunwing of course is that it doesn’t have to navigate obstacles on the ground, but I totally get what you mean!
@@unknown_2552i know this is 2 years later but i figured out my problem 😅 on ps4 mounts occasionally drop speed to compensate for load times on ps5 because of the better hardware this doesn't happen at all. I played my first few Playthroughs on ps4 and thats why i didn't known what was up but after finally taking the plunge with a ps5 i got to the bottom of it.
Also again man ive appreciated all the throughout testing youve done for the horizon community your videos are always a treat and i love going back and rewatching them when i have free time. Thank you for all the hardwork its very much appreciated
This was a brilliant little video idea. I was surprised that the Bristleback was faster than the charger.
But I think overall the Sunwing is fastest to get across a larger section because there would be no going around obstacles, and no being ambushed by machines along the way.
As with the grounded mounts you may end up being spotted and attacked by pesky Clamberjaws & all sorts on the way.
Perhaps you could do a race from Barren light or The Base, to Thornmarsh to test that one next?

Imagine in Horizon 3 or a dlc with dolphin machines that can make you faster underwater
Just attach the Shadow of War Nemisis system to the machines you over ride. Give them personalities, as much as any animal might have one. let us upgrade them, customize them, enhance them. 40+ machines and we can ride /5/? Are you insane? Nah. You should be able to ride every single machine you override, and your biggest bases need to have pens you can keep multiple mounts in. Really reward you for going ham in the machine master tree.

It's true. The claws rider is the slowest of all but the coolest...
The advantage of tge Sunwing is that it didnt need to go around the corner, it could go over it. Also has the advantage in being able to scout out an area from tge air, which comes in handy if your just checking an area for apex spawns.

Bristleback may be faster but in a fight I like the charger a whole lot better.
Honestly I like riding clawstriders because they are slower, somewhere between mount trotting and galloping.
It makes a calm stroll through the landscape where I can just enjoy the environment in a brisk pace without seeing Aloy exhausting herself.
Specially if because you don’t even need to move the camera.
Tho if I want to get somewhere fast or don’t have the patience I will b line it with the sunwing, it being a little difficult to control is a downside, I don’t get why they made the 3d movement of swimming and flying different, but it’s nice to get a birds perspective on the world and no need to worry about it not understanding roads.
I share the same sentiment regarding the Clawstriders! It also helps to have a pretty strong machine by your side on higher difficulties!

The clawstrider is the worst mount in the game by far. But I believe it does the most combat damage. I think if you'd done multiple runs you'd have found the charger is actually slightly faster than the bristleback, plus it corners better (you made one really bad turn that cost some speed on the charger). My rule of thumb is that if I need to go more than 200 meters I call a mount, otherwise I go on foot because by the time you call it, mount it and get it pointed where you want to go, it will have been faster to just run.
I think the combat power is a huge advantage for the clawstrider. But yes its pace truly is annoying. After I got the sunwing the clawstrider became my best friend in combat though.
Okay I definetly was surprised by the results. I thought Sunwings where the fastest simply cause they fly and are mentioned to be pretty fast.
ClawStriders are kinda disapointingly slow tho, like I know that in real life dromeosaurids like Velociraptor or Deinonychus where not build for speed and the developers obviously stuck pretty close to those traits of the real animal along with the feather adition but, since this is a game I feel like you can tip that scale a bit and have the Claw Strider been a faster runner.
I absolutely agree regarding your thoughts on the Clawstriders. Even 20mph would be nice! 16mph just feels so slow compared to the other options. However, I do understand the need for balance; if they had made the Clawstriders as fast as the Charger/Bristleback then a lot of people would abandon them in favor of the Clawstrider since it is so much better in combat.
Indeed. It makes since that you would have your strongest ridable machine be the slowest for said balenced reasons.
Tho I have to say when the Charger ended the race I thought the Robbots down the beach where the other ridable ones. Idk how I confused a Behemoth with a Sunwing lol

Tbh the only reason to even override a land mount after getting the Sunwing is for a free overridden machine in combat.
I always go with the Clawstrider since I think its the best mount for combat.

Nice but I’m still guna use the Sunwing or charger. The Bristleback for me spazzes out and vibrates when i try run up a slight hill and it doesn’t move much

I was irritated the first time I rode a claw strider. They seem pretty fast when they're beating Aloy up. But, it was so slow.
Honestly I never travel by land anymore after getting the sunwing. I don't know why you would use the other mounts for traversal. My land mount is the clawstrider because I use it for combat

Sunwing's my daily driver, and I only summon my Raptor to assist me in vanquishing some enemies such as the annoying Clambermonkeys.

because this is using all of the mounts. These machines are the only ones you can mount

i like the charger more in forest area that bristleblack. It is slimmer so it won't stuck on foliage. And i don't like the idea a mount being so slow even it is tougher than the others

aloy Might not be able to match ursain bolt but she doesn't sprint and can keep up her speed longer...so if you compare her sweet to the world record marathon runner it's about 13 miles an hour which is pretty cool
Absolutely an amazing feat on its own for Aloy! Heck I have trouble maintaining 8 miles per hour for more than 15 minutes 😂

It doesn’t make sense because the Clawstrider is supposed to be a replica of a raptor and we all know how fast they’re probably they did it to make the game well balanced but it would be more fun if they make the Clawstrider faster than that 🤷🏻♂️ maybe they’re leaving all the goodie’s for the third game

I Got A Question:How do I make a mount like the Full on Sprint/Rush?
They have different uses. Clawstrider and Bristlebacks are slow, but absolute units in a fight. While chargers and sunwings are fast but serve almost no purpose outside of travel.
clawstriders are not for riding, they're for calling them into a fight

I haven't unlocked the other mounts, just charger, but during combat its speed increases dramatically. Does that happen with the other mounts too?

This was for PS5. I actually have a “part 2”, where I raced them from Scalding Spear to Hidden Ember 😁
Yh I really thought they would've fixed the terrain problem with the mounts. I hit a pebble and I stop or slow down. Can't even jump down an inclinations that's 2 inches high sometimes. And the full speed feature isn't consistent. The claw strider/stroller dosent even have one.

On PS4, as soon as you touched any obstacles with a machine on the ground, it will simply stop and it's very annoying
The clawstriders speed is very disappointing!! Was excited about them until I rode one. I didn't utilize them again until I discovered that they are the best when it comes to combat.
Yeah, they are twice as powerful as the Bristleback. I was going to highlight the different damage numbers available with each mount’s attacks, but I thought I might leave that for another video.
the one key advantage to the clawstriders speed is that you can activate your focus without slowing down to a trot

Personally i travel on foot taking in the scenery and farming as i go. Only call a mount in case of emergency... Otherwise, i travel by campfire.... Fastest of them all 😛

I do think Sunwings are faster simply because I think they tend to go faster the higher in the air you are. I have noticed that when I am flying closer to the ground they tend to slow down. but, given that none of the other mounts fly, I suppose this is a decent test.
You can run way faster with aloy if you spam the slide button.
The clawstrider should be way more agile than that. Its almost as slow as running aloy. What an embarrassment…

If you used the aloy’s Sprint, Slide, Roll Repeat Method she would have gotten to the end faster.
Is the roll necessary? I've just been spamming sprint-slide over and over, and it's worked like a charm. I usually only roll at the end to make it into some tall grass.

by the time you get a Sunwing, you won't really need a travelling mount like the Charger. I mean, why go on land when you can fly? XD so while the Clawstrider's speed was a turn off at the beginning, I've never gone back after realizing it kicks major Slaughterspine ass. Clawstrider battle mount ftw

Honestly the clawstrider should be faster as it's a raptor. I exepcted it to either be the brsitleback or sungwing as being the fastest but i'd say the sunwing over long distace is faster just because can fliy straight

All of them are stupidly slow and the Clawstrider is just irritating. They generally missed a huge opportunity to make the mounts more personal. Keeping a specific mount, naming it, being able to upgrade them, health, armor, combat abilities, speed. I never used mounts in Zero Dawn and the only viable mount in Forbidden West is the Sunwing. Hope they put more thought into it with the next title.
Aloy is pretty fast if you slide as much as possible.

You'd be too OP, but in all honesty I am a bit tired of the fact you can't have a personal pet machine of your own. Imagine being able to have a pet thunderjaw in the late game that you can summon for support.
This is nice content, thank you. But marathons are better references for that. Since she does not have stamina using sprint in the game. Marathon's are 26.21 miles distance and Eliud Kipchoge completed the Berlin Marathon in 2:01:09 time making him it 13.1 mph as fast, of course it is not rough surface. Since, Aloy is a game character, it is expected to be superior to real life counterparts. Bolt is a short distance sprint runner, he made this speed for 9 seconds only in a 100 meters run. Hope that game has stamina consuming splint but it has not.

I know! It would be awesome if it could be just a tad faster. It doesn’t need to be as fast as the other mounts, but at least a little faster!
I don't understand why the game limits you to only being able to ride on only 4 machines, if there are a lot of machines!! It would be more fun to be able to ride a mammoth or any other powerful machine
The Sunwing being slow is just goddamn annoying. It's the final mount, you use it for the post-game... and it's no faster than your other mounts, which already aren't great.
Can't beat the views though! But I do agree. I think you'll be even more disappointed when you see my Machine Mount Race pt. 2 lol
It's not slow, it's just that it's too close to the ground, but when away from the ground, it's fast as hell.

I think its a game bug and the game devs by mistake made the Bristleback speed swapped with Clawstrider

Hated how slow the clawstrider was when I first tried it out. I expected more traversal capabilities over rough terrain, but it disappointed there too. And I expected the sunwing to fly faster. Does have the biggest advantage because you can basically go straight to your current objective.
Same here! I was thinking it would be much more agile.
Even though the Sunwing isn’t the fastest in flat out speed, it more than makes up for it by completely eliminating the need to traverse the terrain
