For the record. I have never given anyone on RUclips a single dime. However, your videos are so useful and well put together that I had to show my appreciation. I haven't commented on the last few, but I watch and use almost all of them. Even though I had already designed a strategy to take out Dreadwings, your method definitely seems faster and less dangerous. On a different note. Have you considered making Guides for the Arena Boss Battles?
WOW! Thank you so much JosephCheetah! 🎊🎉🥳 This is a very generous donation and I really appreciate your support! 😁 I'm really glad you're finding my videos helpful even though you've already developed your own methods. I do have an Arena guide on my list of videos to make. Unfortunately, because the Arena is so frustrating, I think a lot of people just turn down the difficulty to get their medals and move on, so I'm not sure how popular the video(s) would be. That being said, I have been getting some requests for Arena guides lately, so maybe I should do them after all. Thanks for the suggestion! And thank you again for your support. It's much appreciated 😄🤜🤛👍
@@ArktixOfficial I'd be psych'd to see an arena guide from you. Mostly just the boss battles because you're other videos have taught enough when you can pick your own weapons, but I struggle being efficient when I don't see the right order from the get go on the bosses.
The sheer creativity that went into the machines in this world is incredible, not just visually or lore-wise but in terms of actual gameplay. HZD was impressive but this is one area where HFW completely blows it out of the water, especially when it comes to the big machines. I haven’t encountered this level of tactical richness in any other game.
I did find that the ZD machines made more sense as part of the terraforming engine. The FW machines are cooler, but definitely feel more like they're designed as game enemies, rather than a logical story component
@@JM..... The lore excuse for this is that as time passes HEPHAESTUS makes more dangerous combat machines and it also enhances non combat machines with things like armor and such
@@JM.....That's been explained by the lore. Hephestus is making more and more combat machines because Humans are too much of a threat to the rest of them.
Horizon is undoubtedly my single favourite video game. Your deep dives allowed me to enjoy replaying it with renewed challenge. It also made harvesting for parts less of a grind. Keep up the great work!
Wow thanks so much Marc! Horizon is my favorite game as well 😄 I’m glad to hear you find my content helpful and enjoy the game more because of it 🙂 Thanks so much for your support! 🤜🤛🙏
A bit late I know, but upon second viewing, I have something to suggest. A little to the east of the marked site, there is a horus, if you have the sunwing, you can easily pick up the energy cell, fly for ten seconds, then drop it on the dreadwing. This provides EXTREMELY easy tie down and fang removal, after which I can simply flee and go pick up another cell, by that point the dreadwing will have despawned and respawned when I approach, so I can repeat and get an insane amount of fangs per hour. The process goes like this: 1:pick up energy cell 2: drop energy cell on dreadwing 3: tie down dreadwing 4: harvest fangs 5: either repeat or kill the dreadwing using this video to gain circulators, primary nerves, or apex hearts. Hope this was helpful to somebody, and easy hunting to you who read this.
The Dreadwing on the beach is there from the start, prior to Valley of the Fallen. You can head there as soon as you unlock the base if you want to. It does disappear while Valley of the Fallen is active though.
Oh interesting. There must be some other quest that unlocks it. I visited the site on a save file where Valley of the Fallen hadn’t been completed yet and it wasn’t there. Are you sure you’ve been there before doing Valley?
@@ArktixOfficial yup. If you want to test you can start a quick Ng+ & fly over there after unlocking the base. Yeah I suppose it's quite possible that the site may be active at first & then deactivated once a particular main quest is unlocked. Maybe it's once Kotallo arrives at your base as I'm not sure valley of the fallen is available until that point.
Thanks for the video! Btw you can reach that Dreadwing and Stormbird site earlier in the game, it just takes a bit of rock jumping. I stumbled across it by accident when wandering around up the slope from the Tremortusk site. You get to where the Slaughterspine is with the Leaplashers and then climb up the rock behind them
I’ve only had the displeasure of facing off two dreadwings during my play through so far. Wish I had had this video before I faced off against them lol. Those fangs are an absolute nightmare to farm, especially with the dreadwing’s crazy move set. Anyway, this video helped a ton and I can’t wait for the next one.
Awesome! Glad to hear you found this helpful 😄 Sorry I didn’t have it sooner for you, but hopefully you find it useful for more Dreadwings in the future!
1:20 Actually, if you pass through the slaughterspine site nearby, there is a section of cliff that is REALLY easy to jump up to access the location. I have farmed there several times and have not yet completed gemini.
Thanks! Yeah a number of people have been commenting to mention this. Glad you could confirm it too. I guess I just never tried to get there early enough in the main story on my first playthrough!
@@ArktixOfficial i found that site climbing up the other side of the mountain which was hatched black/white and spammed the bird during the hide n seek on the crest :-) . not completed any cauldrons on that side either and the dreadwing by the mountain entrance is now there too. the one on the beach however was there when i found it exploring but after the quest to rid the area of machines it dissappeared and left me with a scrap pile to look through so not sure if its coming back.
Your channel is extremely underrated. Your narration and explanation in these guides are very well done. It has helped me tremendously in this game. Im sure a lot of gamers out there also appreciate your work.
Although I started playing this game late, I am so grateful that youtube recommended these videos almost a year after they were uploaded and man my progress became so much faster than it was before...I look forward for the DLC videos you put..Thank you 👍
i really enjoy your videos , i just got horizon forbidden west and this really helps. i have played the first game and i have gotten the ps4 platinum trophy, but this was very new to me, so when i found ur channel it got me very far. thanks !
Hands down, best HFW channel for guides on YT. Appreciate the tips. For some reason, even if i dont get hit by the pulse, it seems to wake up and search around for me. Great note on the slight frost resistance. It still freezes at a decent rate.
Wow thanks! Glad you’re liking my content 😄 And yeah, the will start to patrol their route after a certain amount of time even if they don’t detect you. If you want long enough, they’ll usually go back to hanging, but it takes a while.
I prefer to trigger elemental states on flying machines to force them to land/crash for roping. Whatever they are weak to. Fire for regular Dreadwings. Elemental arrows have a bigger range and a more reliable buildup compared to directly roping them down. (Plasma (e.g. on Stormbirds) even makes them land twice (beginning and end)! And on Stormbirds the increased range of sharpshot plasma arrows is great as well...)
You did good again. Personally Dreadwings (along with stormbirds and thunderjaws oddly) are one of those large machines I don't mind tussling with. Ordinarily I don't ropecast them, but good to know it's an option when I'm methodically harvesting components. Also, the shredder gauntlets bring out the sadist in me. Blowing them to hell with a boltblaster is less fun in comparison. Having said that, I am here for whatever brutally surgical machine hunting guides you make. These are like finding $20 in the couch cushions each time you release them. Keep 'em coming.
Bro for the last few days I've been so obsessed with your channel like hands down bro you provide the Best Horizon Forbidden West content🔥🔥🙌 I'm a huge fan of Horizon Games and I've achieved Platinum Trophy of both Zero Dawn & Forbidden West... Your way of explaining the tips & tricks is the Best keep it up bro😄🤗🤗
@@ArktixOfficial Even you have made a spreadsheet on the locations of where all the coils are also all the parts you need to upgrade NG+ new Legendary weapons like no RUclipsr does that amount of hardwork🤣😅 And I've been following both these spreadsheets and it really helps me and saves me a lot of time
Thanks so much for the video! One technique that I've found that helps with these guys is to just pound it with the explosive tear arrows. That seems to knock off the mine thrower and sensors then use surrounds like the bridge support or large machine limb to hide behind and the deathwing doesn't seem to get a clear shot at you with its wings.
You’re very welcome! And nice yeah that sounds like a good strategy! A bit expensive though since tear precision arrows are kind a pricey to craft with they echo shell requirement.
Amazing video! Fighting these machines is so rewarding, because they have all sort of weaknesses which you discover, and learn how to exploit as you play. I noticed a nice detail, it has the symbol of its cauldron on the leg plate that you were targeting. I love how the devs imagined these machines. It's really like an AI like Heph. went rogue and as it grew, it started developing machines for its new identity or purposes. What I slightly dislike in FW is how upgrading gear is gated, so you can't really focus on maxing out your stuff until you do certain quests. Since you can get these weapons before completing those quests, I think you should be able to upgrade them. I mean it's quite a grind to upgrade them anyway, waiting until the map opens certain encounters is a bit too much.
Haha thanks Alia! That's very kind of you to say 😊 Glad you've found my content helpful. I have a dedicated Ropecaster Master Class video in the works!
really appreciate your videos man. there's alot of weapon types I hadn't even tried through the game because I didn't understand how they function or how to combine different functions to maximize takedowns.
Hey thanks a lot for your support! 🥳 All the different options for weapons, skills, outfits, etc. can definitely be a bit overwhelming. Glad you're finding my videos helpful 😄 I hope you're enjoying Forbidden West more because of it! Thanks again 🙏
You're back hehe. Have been waiting for this. Can't wait for your Master Machine Hunting Guide for other machines as well. I do hope you will also do Tilda as I had difficulty in defeating it on Ultra Hard difficulty. I just barely defeated it.
Hey thanks HoldingCell! Good to see you here 😁 Glad to hear even a top tier player like yourself can pick up some tips from my content. Very well done channel. I haven't finished the story and these tactics have really aided in making quick work of machines particularly the shellsnappers. And the drillspike knockdown tip and slide dodge changed my whole play style. I was wondering if after the machine masterclass videos you might start a series of arena guides? I'm playing on very hard and don't want to easy up the difficulty to beat the arena so a guide to the best strategies would be incredibly beneficial. Others have made videos but they aren't as well put together as these. Keep up the good work!
Just subscribed. I’ve been playing this game on NG+ Ultra Hard and I gotta say it is not easy lol. But I saw some of your videos and they are super informative and helpful. I’m gonna binge the rest when I get the chance.
Surely I'm not the only one who finds dreadwings the easiest big machine, just spamming shredders tends to work pretty well and shocks them so you can take off the fangs.
@@smengamer123 Tiderippers, Slitherfangs and Dreadwings are the weakest for me. Slitherfangs are a little difficult tho because of their confusing attacks.
Yeah I’d agree Dreadwings and Tiderippers are the easiest heavyweights. People seem to struggle with Dreadwings though (or at least I was getting a lot of requests for them) so I wanted to make sure I had a good video for them.
Use the "Legacy's reach blastsling" for Acid bombs which has 40% damage over time. i combine that with 4x "25% damage over time" to get 140% damage over time. you won't believe how much damage it causes. you can keep shooting the dreadwing meanwhile its corroding to finish it even faster.
@@paristeta5483 Thats not what Damage over time is. Once in corroding state the enemy keeps taking damage unless the state finishes, and thats DoT. Legacy's reach deals additional 25% damage if thrown from a distance ( so you can throw from a distance as well if its flying). I never had any difficulty throwing a blastsling at a flying enemy, if you use concenration. Even when the dreadwing is invisible you can spot them. My loadout is fully upgaraded Nora thunder warrior, fully upgraded Legacy's reach with 140% damage over time and very hard difficulty. I also use the fully upgraded skykiller on flying enemies
@@naveen1774 Look here is a video. See the 5 Damage ticks? They are the corroded state damage. It´s the same. The game puts damage number which appear at the same time and a close together in location together sometimes, maybe you mix that up? It´s also happening in the video. And the puddle on the ground, is still not usefull, when the enemy is in the air, you have to ground it first. ruclips.net/video/AxiGPsLq3Vo/видео.html
Nice! Sounds like that build works well for you. I’d be interested to know if you’re getting the high DoT while the Dreadwing is flying or on the ground. As Paris mentioned, my experience has been that the Corroding state DoT ticks aren’t affected by DoT damage (even though maybe they should be?)
Thanks! And nice! Yeah using shock shredders is my preferred technique as well, but I think most players struggle with shredders, so I developed this method for the video.
I find the best way to avoid the Dreadwing's ground pounds is to try dodging towards it and get behind. You need to time it well though. The most frustrating part for me is trying to hit that acid sac as it often lowers its chest too close to the ground for a clear shot.
Thanks Mitch! Yeah I didn’t know about that for a while either until I started killing the watchers at the beach site before going for the Dreadwing. Then when I got the official guide I saw it was called Vampire Leech. Pretty cool!
These are always so incredible! LOL It's SO COOL how you get so much information packed into each video... amazes me how clear, direct, but jammed-packed they always are. Videos this informative and dense have no right being so clear and understandable lol! Ok, to this video specifically... thanks for showing the aim assist that you use, wondered about that sometimes. What sensitivity do you use most for your sticks? It's very very useful to see you utilizing so many different weapons and techniques when going after these nasty critters, I had honestly forgotten about smoke bombs and didn't use them except when underwater. lol watch, next video you'll be telling us "If you can use stealth and bounce a rock off the helmet of ANY Rebel Leader/Commander, it'll make a ringing sound like a bell that can actually work like a machine lure. Three acid clawstriders will spawn twenty five meters from the Rebel Leader, and if you're quick enough, all three can be overridden by using Aloy's "wink" pose in Photo Mode!" It's really cool to see how clever and cooperatively you use multiple tactics to influence the adversary and control the fight at every stage. It would've been REALLY neat if they had exploited the Dreadwing's vampire ability a bit more, or in a story mission more blatantly focusing on it, I had no idea it could do that. These enemy videos you make are incredible and very helpful, I've been playing on Very Hard successfully thanks to them. Speaking of, I'm going to try a full NG+ on Very Hard working up to Ultra. You don't have to make an Ultra Hard video for us, because your tips and tactics in ALL of the other videos contribute the most help. But if you are still considering it, here are some of my general ideas/personal requests to suggest (since a lot of folk on your last video seem to agree that it'd be a helpful video for a lot of us n00bs, and I've not seen others on youtube) 1: Aside from obviously maxing out best gear as prep, what would be your best recommendations of things we really should have/would be a good idea to have? (specific foods, how many potions if any of what kinds, machine parts we should farm like volatile sludge, etc) B: Things we MUST understand to survive (more important to focus on healing or damage output? Changing our strategies in some cases in ways we might not normally be used to [ex. using the Tenakth Low Health= "more this" stuff as opposed to Hunter armor]) E3: Can older folk/not as proficient gamer folk like me even compete in Ultra Duper Hard, and what prep/grinding should/can we do to compensate for slower reflexes/poor techniques? I personally do not have as much trouble doing tons of damage on Very Hard (again mostly thanks to your videos!), but I do have a lot of trouble staying healthy/alive... and I know Ultra will be worse. Is there anything I should focus on that doesn't equal just "git gud ad game?" C4: Again, I know vaguely how hard it is to make these videos and greatly appreciate the time and work it takes, so please don't think I'm just whining and begging for a needless video. While I do think it could be a good vid that would draw attention, I can fully understand why it wouldn't seem worth the effort since ALL of your videos work towards helping us fight Duper Hard anyway... maybe as a concise (even short) "MUST do these/be prepared to do" compilation of your other general strategies would be worth it, for views and information. Just trying to help, I think quite a few people are interested in it, but believe me when I say I understand a little of the cost-effort trade-off involved here and definitely don't want to sound whiny or pressuring. Sorry such a big post, didn't sleep last night so I'm babbly. Take care Arktix, deeply appreciate your hard work and thank you for sharing this amazing series with us! I'm a MUCH better player thanks to your teaching, went from feeling ecstatic for doing a few hundred damage with my best gear to blasting foes with multiple thousands regularly! Thanks so much, best wishes to you and the Horizon community!
Hi Wren! WOW! Another amazing comment from you 😄 Thanks! I appreciate all these suggestions. I do think I’ll do a video on this topic and I’ll definitely incorporate much/all of what you mentioned. Thanks for you’re ideas and support!
For most part, I'd say a good ropecaster/shock weapon would be helpful to make it easy to hit the more mobile machine parts and canisters. From there I would say focus on hitting the weapons of a machine first. For example shooting off the Salvo cannons on apex tremortusks by shocking it with shock arrows. It is much easier to react to physical attacks. seeker works best for this.
@@thecyanpanda241 Dang thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to respond! I've been having a break from Horizon on the Crisis Core re-release (they did *SO* much to make the gameplay better, my gosshhhhhhhhh) but I'm DEFINITELY going to make sure I finish Ultra Hard before the DLC!! Again, thank you, I'll save your comment and try out your recommendations. I wish you a wonderful day! (your name made me terribly happy btw :D thanks again)
@wren7195 this are just general tips from someone who has bad aim and mid reflexes and I've only played on hard. Arctix has a lot more tips than me tbh that work on harder difficulties, but I can try giving more specific tips if you are still struggling. I'll be playing through very hard and eventually ultra hard soon-ish once I level up my gear so I'll eventually be able to provide better tips. Until then, in terms of dodging attacks, the ranged ones(ie Salvo cannons and Thunderjaw missiles) are a matter of reaction time and timing. However physical attacks are usually telegraphed pretty hard on bigger machines. If you are struggling stop attempting to damage it and pay close attention to what happens after certain roars or wind ups, then learn at what points to slide-dodge. For example I let whenever I see a tremortusk bend down I know he's about to throw the rock, so I run in one direction until the rock leaves it's trunk and then dodge in the opposite direction, or slide dodge to the side. Edit: a good panic surge would be Toughened which on top of a lot of healing over time provides damage resist and resistance to stuff like the Roaring and being crushed by big machines at higher levels. Very good for learning attacks against harder machines and as a panic button when you are out of heals and know you are going to be hit a lot. You won't be invincible and still have 75% of the attacks, but it makes it much easier to survive. You also don't really have to spec into the survivor tree at all to unlock it.
This video was super helpful. Those apex variants are super tough. Also, could you do a video on gear that players shouldn’t waste their time with? I’ve discovered that I spent time and resources on some gear and they weren’t that good/useful in the end.
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful! And interesting idea for a video. I did a whole series on all the best gear, so I’d suggest referencing those. I don’t have a video on what gear NOT to get, but if it’s not in my series then it’s not worth getting! 😄
Thank you! And ah yeah, Ravagers can be very annoying. I’ll probably do a video for them at some point, but for now I’ll tell you it helps to remove their canon first, then freeze and deal high damage shots with a sharpshot bow. A ropecaster to tie them down helps a lot, especially so you can deal with one at a time.
Your How to Kill videos have been great, thanks for all the tips and tricks, and time put into discovering them! Can you please do a Tideripper video soon? I have so much trouble with their slam melee attacks, though after watching your videos, I'm sure the answer is the slide dodge trick
You’re very welcome! Glad you’re finding my content helpful! And Tiderippers are definitely on my list. For a quick tip, shock and frost are you’re best friend with them, especially shock!
FWIW you can access the dreadwing/stormbirb duo up in the mountains without the thing you get from cauldron: Gemini. There are a couple fires/camps north of that location and it is possible (albeit slow) to traverse the mountain ridges and glide down to that area. I'd still farm the bat near latopolis though, much easier. If you need stormbirds, there's one way west in San Fran near the golden gate bridge that's a static solo spawn.
Thanks! Stormbirds are definitely on my list. You’re probably not destroying the canon. Unfortunately, it can easily get swiped by the Stormbird and go flying super far, or get shoved under the map where you can get it. This is a problem with other machine components too, like Earthgrinders and Mining Claws 🙄 Gotta snag them quick!
Great channel, great content, many thanks! I especially love the „theory-crafting“. 😁 Are you planning to do anything on melee combat? Just because it annoys me that I don‘t get that right, not because I like or need it.😂
I say, as now all (or nearly all) big machines are done, we need a How to Kill Thunderjaws! I know you have an old one for Zero Dawn, and a quick speechless one. But Papa Thunderjaws deserves it. It's the poster machine of the franchise, if memory serves the only big one of the origninal game to still be here, it's still a big and scary machine. And an Apex Thunderjaw look mean and slick. ^^ You need to pay your respect to this scary Old Timer. ;) (Old Timer would be a nice name for some kind of legendary beast of a Thunderjaw)
@@ArktixOfficial Thanks for agreeing to do this. Your video are very informative and practical, so much that a hyper stealth centric player as me (Utaru armor for the win!) is rocking a shredder gauntlet (recently acquire Ancestors Return, I'm upgrading it) and having quite the fun. I'm also quite fond of drill spike knockdown on Slitherfangs. But more than a TJ guide, ther is another big and mean machien that could benefit a guiode. The Stormbird. I positively hate those guys, and a lot of canon and other parts are also needed to upgrade legendary gears.
I enjoy killing stuff my way and while I have to pure use of these videos...I love your content!! I never cared to upgrade gear to ensure each fight is just that. I will be using your content moving forward. Thank you for your level of quality for content
Hey thanks! Glad you were able to find some helpful tips from my content! I totally understand wanting to develop you’re own strategy, so I hope you can integrate some of my types into yours!
@@ArktixOfficial And since watching your videos I have improved in battle combat tactics almost 15%. IF YOU SEE THIS. I have a request. Clamberjaws. PLEASE make a video showing how to take these fucking things down PLEASE!!! That West Coast Clamberjaw site is no fucking joke yo!!
Nice! I do plan to do a Clamberjaw video eventually. In the meantime, I’d definitely recommend using the Elite Ropecaster to tie them down so you can deal with one at a time.
At the default Dreadwing site you can also use the tank as a defensive structure. You can easily roll/slide below parts of the tank, which will not be possible for the Dreadwing on the ground and give you a lot of time to freeze/shoot it.
Thank you! And yes Rollerbacks are on my list for the hunting series 👍 Do you mean sac webbing on Fire and Frostclaws? I’ve already got a guide for Fireclaws that shows how to make sure you get the sac webbing.
@@ArktixOfficial I saw that after I replied, my fault. Keep up the great work man you're the best at hfw videos I've seen yet. Hope you get the recognition you deserve
Love the strategy. I used the free thunderbolt shedder gauntlet as my main damage dealer. Got the fangs with the tear arrows. Oserman outfit I had other weapon but only really used them if homeboy was too far. I was also maybe 48 cause I like to over level my aloy 😂
Correction: the stormbird/dreadwing hunting spot west of the colosseum can be accessed by foot by jumping up the cliff face near the southwest rock face of the area with the slaughterspine. BEFORE Gemini. As soon as you complete the embassy mission and enter the main map area.
The problem I have with them is their stumping crap. I figured the slide, roll technique was how to deal with it but I suck at it. More or less average. I use the tear blast technique on the fangs, but if I get one, I usually let it fly, aim with concentration and shoot below the remaining tooth. Usually I get it on the first shot. I like using the plasma because of the boom it gives, but do like your idea to rope cast it and get around to the back so you can shoot the radar. I might use that. Although, electric arrows might be quicker. I might tinker with that. And I do love your sliding rope caster trick. I use it on the Shellsnappers when going for the shell bolts. It's quicker and easier to get them by shooting them off with the hunter bow than with tear blast arrows, and I can save echo materials. You have to use 5-7 echo blast to make them. What a pain to load and gather them. I either get them from Longlegs or Clamberjaws. They are the only ones I know of, and I believe I checked multiple times, that give them out 100% of the time. Longlegs in Zero Dawn were really easy to kill. Just shoot both electric cylinders and done. With Forbidden West, you can do it, but they always seem to have a little bit of life, and I want those burners. And don't get me started on the Apex Longlegs. Now I just shock them and shoot the burners off. A little bit more work, but it's worth it.
Yeah! I've found that coming from the north, where the slaughterspine and drone are, heading to that northwestern most corner of the hills makes for some very easy jump-scotching to them. Was a lifesaver in early stages!
@@ArktixOfficial I didn’t know about the Gemini secret until I got it and thought it was weird there wasn’t a obvious path there, so I just started jumping knowing that Aloy is a freaking mountain goat when it comes to scaling hills and it worked Edit: I use it often to find unintentionally safe vantage points for sniping, it’s even easier now with “you know what”
Ah lol gotcha. Yeah I do a lot of “Mountain-goating” with Aloy as well lol. Never tried too hard to get up there on my first playthrough though. On later pkaythroughs I new what was up there and I wasn’t too concerned with getting to it early 😂
I got a nasty surprise fast travelling to the beach location after the endgame. Who put a Dreadwing there? It instantly aggroed and I wasn't prepared for that kind of fight. I wish I had seen this video before that fight! Fortunately, by accident I discovered a kiting location, one of the Horus legs right on the edge of the water. The leg blocks most of its ranged attacks and it seemed reluctant to fly over water, so I was able to poke at it with tear damage enough to reduce its armament to a fair fight.
@@Ellerbeetimes100 I'm stuck on the first level final challenge. I've wasted probably 10000 shards (although I save scum to get them back) on trying to beat that stupid snake.
Another great video. Thanks ArkTix. I have three quick questions please: 1. Does the range-master valor surge affect tear damage and the elite ropecaster? If so, it might be a good idea to activate that valor surge before aiming for the fangs or radar. 2. What is the best weapon and coil setup for head-shotting armored humans on ultra-hard? 3. What are your top 3 favorite weapons? Mine are carja bane, blastforge and ancestor's return.
Thanks Emeka! 1) So I haven’t tested that specifically, but I’m almost positive Ranged Master won’t boost tear damage on the ropecaster. 2) I’d suggest stealth 25% coils, but crit chance coils can work well too if you aren’t playing stealthy. 3) I’d say Ancestor’s Return, Blast Forge, and Sun Scourge.
Hey thanks! Glad you like them 😄 And oh man, that’s a tough question! The “perfect” weapon wheel depends on your playstyle, but check out my next vid for MY perfect weapon wheel!
Here’s my tactic to take out Dreadwings: fire arrows from the Sun Scourge, then Gravesinger’s Lament (critical build) to take them down. If I need to tear something off (I don’t anymore) I’ll use my tear bow (Irivs Downfall, coiled up for max tear).
You don't have to complete gemini to get to the dreadwing on the mountain. South-east of the Slatherspine is an area from which you can get up there relatively easy
Can confirm, though I wouldn't call it easy, since you either have to clear the Slaughterspine and its minions first, or sneak past them. I tried the sneak approach (east entrance to the Slaughterspine location, hug the south wall) but there's not enough cover and the Leaplasher radar spots you. I had to use smoke bombs to avoid that fight.
@@PapaCharlie9 I think you mean another way to the dreadwing. South of the Slatherspine is a lake and south-east of that lake is a cliff you can get up and walk to the dreadwing. It's south-east of the Slatherspine but not near the Slatherspine, you don't have to deal with it
@@colinhaase496 Huh. I literally went around the entire Dreadwing/Stormbird location trying to find a way to climb up there, couldn't find one. I know the lake you mean, I checked that spot, but couldn't find a way up. I'll try again, thanks!
@@colinhaase496 Okay, I found your easy way. The first time around I gave up because the climbing marks were all red x for the last 10-15 meters or so, which is why I thought it was impossible, but you can hop/jump from ledge to ledge on the right side of the waterfall and make it. Definitely easier than sneaking past the Slaughterspine! BTW, that lake is one of the best locations to farm Salmon, if you do pouch/food crafting.
@@christian751 Somehow youtube is eating my comments, sorry it took so long. I´m not sure but looked up into the wiki, and there were no mentioning on it.
Thanks! Tramples are only in HZD, so I probably won’t go back to make a video for them, but Paris gave you the main tactic, which is to get them burning by exploding that component on their belly. You do have a reticle on UH, but a lot of UH players turn it off to make it even harder.
Just chiming in to say that these guides are great! And for anyone who wants confirmation that a shredder gauntlet with shock ammo is faster - it is! It's my go-to for farming the fangs after knocking those off with a tear arrow.
1:22 you don't need to have done Cauldron Gemini. I went there with giving Gaia only one AI back. Just travel south of the Slaughterspine and jump over the rock wall. But who thought putting those two together is a good idea? Why not put an Shellsnapper there aswell :D
Lol yeah what a combo! And thanks yeah, a number of other people have mentioned this as well. Thanks for confirming it. I guess I just never tried to get there early enough in the main story.
I'm torn between the Dreadwing and the Slaughterspine for my favourite machine in this game. I'm leaning towards the Dreadwing for how many unique abilities it has.
'Need to complete GEMINI to get to the dreadwing and stormbird arena.' My dumbass hugging the cliff and jumping over the slaughter spine bit to get there.
What is the valley of the Fallen quest? I went to that location down by the beach to farm Clamberjaw parts for my upgrades and decided to check out the ocean while I was there, and I ran smack into that dreadwing, he was already there and I haven’t done that quest, not even heard of it. I just googled clamberjaw site and hoofed it all the way down there from scalding spear (I have a habit of ignoring missions in favor of exploring and gathering machine parts)
after i get those metal fangs out of the dreadwings, i just bomb it with the vindicator explosions and just 3 are enough, stormbird x dreadwing site spawns pretty early in game and not hard to accessm
Nice. And yeah someone else mentioned you can access it from the north. I’ve never tried getting to it that way, but that’s good to know you can get there!
My dumb ass just runs up and starts wailing away with the spear and trying to hit those fangs with a tear arrow while it's flopping around in the air. I usually manage within 12 tear arrows, lol, and then use up all my berries and first aid potions fighting it. I'm going to give this a try between the radar pulses. If I can get a tear arrow to get both fangs, I'll just collect them and haul ass and leave him flopping around and angry.
@@ArktixOfficial it's kinda hard to get all the arena bosses in ng+ ultra hard yk...😂😅
@@ArktixOfficial I'd be psych'd to see an arena guide from you. Mostly just the boss battles because you're other videos have taught enough when you can pick your own weapons, but I struggle being efficient when I don't see the right order from the get go on the bosses.
Totally lol
It's on my list! Thanks for letting me know you'd like to see it!
Agreed! Yeah I love all the details of the machine designs. It’s one of the really unique aspects of the Horizon series for sure!
I did find that the ZD machines made more sense as part of the terraforming engine.
The FW machines are cooler, but definitely feel more like they're designed as game enemies, rather than a logical story component
@@JM..... because Hephaestus want it to be destroying machine, I guess.
@@ArktixOfficial best open world game I ever played
@@ArktixOfficial keep the great work 👏
@@joelfernando59 I can also recommend Red Dead Redemption (2) and Ghost of Tsushima.
Great tip! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for sharing it!
Hmm yeah maybe it’s that. The save file I checked on was just after completing Poseidon, so maybe I needed to check earlier.
Can confirm that's the only Dreadwing I could find when starting NG+ early in the game.
Ah cool. Thanks for letting us know!
Thanks for the video! Btw you can reach that Dreadwing and Stormbird site earlier in the game, it just takes a bit of rock jumping. I stumbled across it by accident when wandering around up the slope from the Tremortusk site. You get to where the Slaughterspine is with the Leaplashers and then climb up the rock behind them
Thanks! Yeah I guess you can get to it early. It’s a little tough though!
Came to the comments to say this as well.

Thanks! That's great to hear 😄 Yeah Forbidden West is definitely tougher/more complex than HZD. I hope you're enjoying it!
Been waiting for this one. Love this series. Thank you!
I hope you liked it and found my tips helpful! Glad you’re enjoying the series 😄
Haha thanks Furious! I take your couch cushion $ analogy as a very high compliment 😄😂

@@ArktixOfficial Even you have made a spreadsheet on the locations of where all the coils are also all the parts you need to upgrade NG+ new Legendary weapons like no RUclipsr does that amount of hardwork🤣😅 And I've been following both these spreadsheets and it really helps me and saves me a lot of time
Lol well…I guess I’m kinda a nerd for spreadsheets 😬🤷🏻♂️ Glad you’re finding them helpful! 😄
Dang this is incredibly technical and very cool. I'll be using all your videos to get more out of my favorite game!
Awesome! Glad to hear you enjoyed this and that Horizon is your favorite 😁❤️🏹

Very well done channel. I haven't finished the story and these tactics have really aided in making quick work of machines particularly the shellsnappers. And the drillspike knockdown tip and slide dodge changed my whole play style. I was wondering if after the machine masterclass videos you might start a series of arena guides? Surely I'm not the only one who finds dreadwings the easiest big machine, just spamming shredders tends to work pretty well and shocks them so you can take off the fangs.
I want to agree with you because I also find them very easy but the tideripper is weak to shock so the Ancestors Return literally shreds it in no time
@@smengamer123 Tiderippers, Slitherfangs and Dreadwings are the weakest for me. Slitherfangs are a little difficult tho because of their confusing attacks.
@@TheGlintJaw I agree, the slitherfang is not necessary hard but it's attacks are awful to play against
Yeah I’d agree Dreadwings and Tiderippers are the easiest heavyweights. People seem to struggle with Dreadwings though (or at least I was getting a lot of requests for them) so I wanted to make sure I had a good video for them.

Thanks! Glad you like them 😄 I’ve been getting a lot of requests for an Arena guide series, so yeah I think I’ll do one at some point!
The DoT coils should only affect the residue left on the ground by elemental blastsling ammo, not much help on a flying enemy.
Nice test Paris. Yeah that’s been my experience as well. I feel like DoT should affect the Corroding state ticks though. Maybe it’s a bug…
Excellent guide, thank you! Will be using this to farm components now.
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful!
Great video. Interesting technique. I’ve been using shock shredders and had great success with them.
Thanks!
Good tip! Yeah trying to run away from it doesn’t really work. And yes, the metal bite sac can be very frustrating to hit lol
Vampire Leech is... so creepy. I was a little freaked out the first time I saw it happen. Thanks for the guide!
It is pretty weird, right!? A cool touch on the devs’ part though!
Great video as always
Thank you!
awesome video!!!! I did not know about the vampire leech ability

But if you are still considering it, here are some of my general ideas/personal requests to suggest (since a lot of folk on your last video seem to agree that it'd be a helpful video for a lot of us n00bs, and I've not seen others on youtube)
1: Aside from obviously maxing out best gear as prep, what would be your best recommendations of things we really should have/would be a good idea to have? (specific foods, how many potions if any of what kinds, machine parts we should farm like volatile sludge, etc)
B: Things we MUST understand to survive (more important to focus on healing or damage output? Changing our strategies in some cases in ways we might not normally be used to [ex. using the Tenakth Low Health= "more this" stuff as opposed to Hunter armor])
E3: Can older folk/not as proficient gamer folk like me even compete in Ultra Duper Hard, and what prep/grinding should/can we do to compensate for slower reflexes/poor techniques? I personally do not have as much trouble doing tons of damage on Very Hard (again mostly thanks to your videos!), but I do have a lot of trouble staying healthy/alive... and I know Ultra will be worse. Is there anything I should focus on that doesn't equal just "git gud ad game?"
C4: Again, I know vaguely how hard it is to make these videos and greatly appreciate the time and work it takes, so please don't think I'm just whining and begging for a needless video.
Amazing video man!
Can I ask for Ravengers next?
They are by far the hardest machine for me, especially when they attack in groups lol
Excellent strategy guide Arktix.
Thanks Matthew! 😁
That attack that it swings its tail then slams you with his head gets me every time on the tiderippers
Been watching all your videos lately, very helpful. You definitely deserve a subscription and hopefully your guide helps me on my UH NG+
Hey thanks! Happy to hear you’re finding my vids helpful 😄 I hope they help you with UH too. And thanks a lot for your sub!
Great videos. Stormbird next? I often destroy the Canon for some reason...
Just because it annoys me that I don‘t get that right, not because I like or need it.😂
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying my content 😄 I do have a Melee Master Class video on my list!
You need to pay your respect to this scary Old Timer. ;)
(Old Timer would be a nice name for some kind of legendary beast of a Thunderjaw)
I’ll definitely be doing a Tjaw video! I think they will be next in this series!
@@ArktixOfficial Bet
Is this AI-generated gibberish speak?
this man deserves at least 10 or 15 million subs
At the default Dreadwing site you can also use the tank as a defensive structure. You can easily roll/slide below parts of the tank, which will not be possible for the Dreadwing on the ground and give you a lot of time to freeze/shoot it.
Good tip!
Can you do one on rollerbacks an how to leave sac webbing? You are awesome btw. Best hfw videos on youtube
No worries! And thanks a lot! 😄 I appreciate that 🙏👍
@@ArktixOfficial yessir, we appreciate you man. Keep it up
Love the strategy. I used the free thunderbolt shedder gauntlet as my main damage dealer. Got the fangs with the tear arrows. Oserman outfit I had other weapon but only really used them if homeboy was too far. I was also maybe 48 cause I like to over level my aloy 😂
Nice! That Thunderbolt Shredder is really solid. And so is over leveled Aloy 😁
Great video!
Thank you!
Another fantastic video! Thanks~
Thanks Brian! Glad you liked it 😄
I actually found the mountain spot by myself, but since it was night both the dread wing in this storm bird were Apex, so that was fun
Nice arktix but can u do a machine guide on tiderippers they are a challenge and I need help
Thanks! And Tiderippers are on my list! For a quick tip, shock is excellent against them (especially shock shredders). Frost too!
Arktix is right, Shock is very good vs them. Also use the first shock state to get rid of the Disc on the back.
Yup that’s exactly what I do!
Correction: the stormbird/dreadwing hunting spot west of the colosseum can be accessed by foot by jumping up the cliff face near the southwest rock face of the area with the slaughterspine. BEFORE Gemini. As soon as you complete the embassy mission and enter the main map area.
Ah yeah others pointed that out as well. I guess I just never tried that hard to get to it!
The dreadwing and stormbird site can be reached by some careful jumping from the nearby slaughterspine site before completing Gemini
Yes! Thanks for confirming this. A few other people have mentioned this as well.
Yeah the stamping is super annoying. I hope you can make use of some of these tips with Dreadwings!
Can we get a video on Food/Food Buffs, maybe dyes and cosmetics?
I have a food/consumables video on my list to do! What would you want to know about dyes/cosmetics exactly?
looking for other machine videos... is there a Tideripper video somewhere?
love these by the way, thank you!
1:20 actually you can get there by climbing jumping the mountain south east of it and probably other directions. It’s just a bit of a hike.
Yeah! I've found that coming from the north, where the slaughterspine and drone are, heading to that northwestern most corner of the hills makes for some very easy jump-scotching to them. Was a lifesaver in early stages!
Oh interesting! I’ve never tried accessing it that way early enough in the main story. That’s good to know. Thanks!
@@ArktixOfficial I didn’t know about the Gemini secret until I got it and thought it was weird there wasn’t a obvious path there, so I just started jumping knowing that Aloy is a freaking mountain goat when it comes to scaling hills and it worked
Edit: I use it often to find unintentionally safe vantage points for sniping, it’s even easier now with “you know what”
Ah lol gotcha.
Ah yeah, they put the Campfire a little to close to that Dreadwing! It will always instant aggro you if you fast travel there.
i couldnt find the way out from that area first time i went there so ended up swimming round the coast for ages... and it followed me too.
Reaching the Mountain Spot early, no Gemini needed: ruclips.net/video/XFD_pZA6Ce8/видео.html
Ah ok cool. Thanks for that clip Paris!
Awesome! Thank you 👍
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful!
My first time playing this game. I battled the dreadwing & stormbird in the snow mountains without completing cauldron Gemini as it's still locked.
Nice! Yeah you can mountain-goat your way up to those as well. Hope you're having fun!
I'm stuck on the locked loadout challenges in the arena. Any plan on making guides for the area?
I'd love to hear his advice on all of the arena.
@@Ellerbeetimes100 I'm stuck on the first level final challenge. I've wasted probably 10000 shards (although I save scum to get them back) on trying to beat that stupid snake.
I’ve been getting a lot of requests for this! So I’ve added an Arena Challenges video/series to my list!
Another great video. Thanks ArkTix. I have three quick questions please:
Ty Arktix for you incredible videos and I have a question for you what is the perfect weapon wheel?
South of the Slatherspine is a lake and
south-east of that lake is a cliff you can get up and walk to the dreadwing.
Ah yeah thanks. Some other people have been mentioning that as well. I never did it early-game myself, but it does make sense it’s possible.
Great video.
Any chance you can make a video on tramplers?
Shot the Processor Unit (the big glowy thing below) when it explodes, the trampler get´s a permament burning debuff, till it´s dead.
@@paristeta5483 does ultra hard have a reticle? Bc I saw a lot of UH videos without one.
@@ArktixOfficial thanks for telling me
Thanks for this great guide to take down these stupid bats and btw it's my Bday today
Happy birthday! 🎈🎊🎁🎂🎉😄 Glad you liked the guide. I hope it’s helpful!
I just hit it with exploding spikes and folding on one knee arrow shot. Pretty much works on all the machines.
If you shock a machine it’ll be immobilised for you to immobilise it again with a ropecaster
Poor Dreadwings, cursed with those incredibly valuable fangs.
Lol yup they are!
Just chiming in to say that these guides are great! And for anyone who wants confirmation that a shredder gauntlet with shock ammo is faster - it is! It's my go-to for farming the fangs after knocking those off with a tear arrow.
Hey thanks Colin! And glad to hear you’re a fan of Shredders like me 😄
1:22 you don't need to have done Cauldron Gemini.
There is another location which has both dreadwing and stormbird in the void map area. Near the sbow mountain
Yes! That's another spot you can find them 👍
Can you make a video on tiderippers for one of the next episodes of this series. A little scared of them because they get a little difficult.
Yup! Tiderippers are on my list!
@@ArktixOfficial thanks
Great job.
Thanks!
I'm torn between the Dreadwing and the Slaughterspine for my favourite machine in this game. I'm leaning towards the Dreadwing for how many unique abilities it has.
'Need to complete GEMINI to get to the dreadwing and stormbird arena.'
My dumbass hugging the cliff and jumping over the slaughter spine bit to get there.
I have a challenge for myself to only use hunter and sharpshot bows and this helped even tho I use only (2) bows thanks
@Arktix Btw congrats on 10k subs, u are getting there, are u gonna do anything special on 10k
Hey thanks! I want to do my first stream soon, but I need to get streaming stuff set up. Hopefully soon!
Fully upgraded ancestor’s return on a apex is the way to go
Hi, could you make a video for the Tideripper too?
My dumb ass just runs up and starts wailing away with the spear and trying to hit those fangs with a tear arrow while it's flopping around in the air. I usually manage within 12 tear arrows, lol, and then use up all my berries and first aid potions fighting it. I'm going to give this a try between the radar pulses. If I can get a tear arrow to get both fangs, I'll just collect them and haul ass and leave him flopping around and angry.
Im late but thanks i was looking to upgrade my seeker hunter bow to lvl 5 and you used the same hunter bow as mine and it was lvl 4 lol
One or the few machines where killing it with plasma is fun
Agreed!
