It is only now, decades later, do I realize how much this music and this show did for me, not only in the sense how humane and gentle it was, but also how it subconsiously educated me in Japanese culture. I’m a Finn, Moomins are an integral part of our childhood, like Dr. Seuss is for Americans. But this show and this music integrated the Moomins, a Northern European and a Japanese sense of beauty, atmosphere and storytelling into one. And in doing so, it bacame something richer and more beautiful, and a piece of art all of it’s own. And I’m so grateful I got such a beautiful intro into Japanese music and esthetics years and years before anime became a thing in western mainstream. It made my childhood that much richer.
yea, i know, moomis are something diffrerent.. when you listening these, its kind of you remembering things of you life which you are currently sure is even happend.. like it makes you feel something you did'nt know about before
Came here to appreciate the original soundtrack. The soundtrack in the new animated series doesn't cut anywhere close when compared to this. It makes me sad that there will be new Moomin fans that will never experience these masterfully crafted pieces.
Moomins were one of most, if not the most wholesome cartoon i watched as a child. So many good subliminal messages that promote kindness and compassion in children with beautiful animations. And of course the songs are just majestic! We need more cartoons like this in present times. :)
This show has so incredibly much depth both in its story and music. it's truly the masterwork of whole family's show. what a brilliant writer Tove Jansson was.
17:35 - 20:33 is my absolute favorite of all moomin music. Reminds me of moominhouse on a dark winter night with snowflakes falling from the sky and Groke making her way through the forest. Chills go down my spine right when those creepy xylophone chords start and that beautiful melody is just perfect in its simplicity.
I absolutely love the music by Sumio. I remember hearing his wife's voice in Final Fantasy 9. But I grew up with 90's Moomin way before that, but didn't know it was the same voice. Sumio's music is so beautiful, haunting, eerie, enigmatic and powerful. And it is all poured into the writing of the music for this series. Tanoshii Moomin Ikka forever!
8:19 this part omfg, tbh it almost feels like that the music is something much more than the anime and it doesn't belong to it. I'm not saying it shouldn't belong to it, but you know. So huge.
Even when I was a little kid (yeah, born in 1990), I always considered Moomins as something completely different than any other animation that was airing on my local TV. Starting from animation quality, through music ending on completely different atmosphere than usual "child cartoons". And yes, I was afraid of Groke/Buka whatever it's called in other counties :D PS. 君は南へ is not "Kun Ha Minami He". 君 reads as "kun" when it's used for name/politeness suffix (for example Moomin-kun). As separate word it reads as "kimi" and it means "you". は when it's used as particle reads as "wa" not "ha". Same goes to へ - yeah, it's "he", but it reads as "e" when it's used as particle. So the correct romaji title should be *Kimi wa minami e* Muumin Tani Fuyu 2 (ムーミン谷・冬) -> "・" in this case means a separator for different arrangement (冬/fuyu means winter, so I assume, there are 3 more versions of this track). 谷/tani means valley.
it's called Mora in my country:) I was born in 2007 and 90's moomins were also my childhood. i always watched them, because it was the atmosphere, the everything! i was really scared of Groke, so I used to get behind my grandma so i wouldn't see that creature haha
And if you watch the original japanese intro and see the translated lyrics you'll see that is quite different from the dubbed intro and has music which is heard on the episodes , this is why the dubbed intro doesn't sound like the music on the episodes and the lyrics say "even those who are tough enough must cry their heart out and they'll find that their sadness quickly disappears"👏
00:00 Muumin Dani Fuyu (ムーミン谷·冬) 05:05 Yuugure (タぐれ) 09:26 Kokoro Ha Bouken (心は冒険) 10:49 Nemuri No Kuni He(ねむりの国へ) 12:19 Tabidatsu Hi Ni (旅立つ日に) 13:48 Soshite Hi Ga Kurete (そして、日が暮れて) 15:24 Muumin Dani Fuyu 2 (ムーミン谷·冬) 19:20 Kimi Ha Minami He (君は南ヘ) 22:44 Hoshi No Kawa (星の河)
24:04 When Moominpappa saves Moominmamma. From the episode "Adventures of Moominpappa Part 3" (episode 68). One of my favorite scenes in the whole series! 😊❤
*wipes tears away from eyes* You miss shiratori are a music marvel you've been a massive inspration in my own role of music production I love you man keep making amazing music and spreading happiness and joy, you are a true saint! x
Thank u so much for uploading! Listening to this brings me back to a time, where I at sundays would watch this series with my mother. Makes tears fall from my eyes... one of the greatest series of all time :)
Absolutely beautiful. This series was a masterpiece and today it holds up great. It was just so good. Also, this is the first time I hear the Japanese narrator's voice and OMG! it is beautiful and very fitting. Also... yeah, I never really knew who made the music. I'm glad to actually know the composer's name.
I wish there was no Japanese voiceovers. I'd just like to listen to the music and the Japanese feels also super weird since I've always known Moomins as a very Finnish thing.
Really beautiful. Im in heaven 8:20 angel singing. My whole life in this compilation. Kinda miss one sad music, disappearing jungle and Snorkmaiden crying, running out to find Snufkin because Moomin will die without him. Where is it?
Jesus Christ, prime me up and call me trap, Yuugure is my God and everything. I want to be cremated and have my ashes blended into a vinyl disc that will play this song.
@@charlesvattimo4674 i love it too. Very beautiful anthem. Just like party for Tofslan and Vifslan who found Mamma's purse and gave the hopgoblin his Royal ruby. And when they played with Fillyonk's children. And of course "Yume no sekaite", when they greet Fillyonk with flowers. I often thought its one and the same melody
This is such a wonderful soundtrack, but it's a shame I can't find the CD easily, or at a reasonable price for that matter. Being sold only in Japan is a travesty, these compositions are fantastical and breathtaking. I swear, I'm going to get the soundtrack to Moomin if I have to save up and buy a $100 or so dollar copy on Amazon.
Thank you so much for uploading all of these! I just got into the series a month ago, but it’s some of my favorite music already, and the way you’ve organized the tracks into long videos like this works so well.
Something about the first track, literally makes me tear up immediately - always. It is so magnicificant, sad and mysterious that i have to skip it sometimes.
Dudes and girls's if you wan't it to get in stores in so Many contry'ies as possible Then your have to share it with friend that Will share it with their friends at last in every contry you Will able to buy it even in Denmark my country above germany so dudes and girls's lets do it lets get moomin soundtracks in stores in every country
Does anybody know what the title of the underwater music is (from the underwater scene in Adventures of Moominpappa Part 3)? I can't seem to find it...
Lila Mi , I’ve never seen Moomin in my life up until this last month, and I wonder why _SOOOOO_ many people *”LOVE”* this character, but after seeing 30 episodes or so, I can see why... _”Long live the 12 year old sexual awakener and gay symbol, Snufkin”._
Hi, I was wondering if there's a name for the track that starts at 17:37? If I search for "Muumin Tani Fuyu 2" either here on RUclips or on Google I only come across the very first track in this video ("Muumin Tani Fuyu") over and over.
I just sobbed for 5 minutes listening to Yuugure. I too, was a child once. This is my soundtrack.

The moomin soundtrack is literally out of this world. Absolutely outstanding and homey in a way.
I have no words how much I miss those times...

Xanttu good to know im not the only one!
My cat walked in and sat next to me while I was doing my homework and listening to this. The 90s Moomins was so beautiful.
Oh my God, it actually starts with my favorite piece
Im planning a Moomin marathon with my freinds so im warming up by listening to the soundtrack
How did it go
He's not done yet ;-)

23:59 Hoshi no Kawa is utterly gorgeous. I could listen to it over and over forever.
The first soundtrack is seriously the best thing ever made.

@@IzayoiArwena aw man i still remember me as a little kid watching moomin, the music is so goddamn nostalgic
No wonder it reminds you of that, I think that’s exactly the music playing when that happened in one of the episodes 😄
That same period reminds me of episode 90 when moomin and sniff are under the lone three when hattivatti seround them before the lightning strikes.
For me it’s when Snufkin has to leave Moomin Valley and when first snow falls.
I'm so happy that I've seen and heard the golden age of films made for children. Miss those times.
Have a nice day!
