Do you suppose that "moomin" is a misspelling or corruption of "moon men"? It might not be, I am just trying to ask where the word or phrase "moomin" comes from.
it comes from Muumi, the original name of the character in the finnish version of the books that inspired the animated series the word itself doesn't have a meaning, it is a creation of Tove Jansson (the author of the books) based on a story she was told as a child, to stop her from sneaking in the kitchen at night, about trolls that lived behind people's stoves, they were called Mumintrollet
