Beautiful carride! To see all these famous landmarks is amazing. Manhattan is so full of buildings, literally every square meter has something built upon it, building on top of highways, tunnels. You can see they really needed more space, but there just wasn’t any.

This video is great, I have driven into NYC from CT on business a couple of times alongside the Hudson river and into Chinatown and out again, but being the driver you can't take the sights in whilst watching the road. NYC is so much more car friendly than London with restrictive cycle and bus lanes everywhere plus thousands of cameras waiting to catch you out if you make the slightest mistake. I learnt to drive in London in the mid 60's and used to drive in fairly regularly on business up until the 2000's, but not anymore its a nightmare. Driving in the states is more relaxing and less stressful except maybe at peak times. Thanks for a brilliant free sightseeing ride, its as if I am in the passenger seat with you.

It's Manhattan. Those rules don't apply. Plus, there's so much traffic we use all available lanes, otherwise no one will get anywhere. In fact, most rules don't apply to New York City (ex. right on red - you can't do that in NYC).

I don't usually mind it if someone's in the left lane, I just pass them and move on with my day. Most New Yorkers have the same mentality, we have places to be and we don't have the energy to get mad if they're not trying to piss us off. Also, this is on a Sunday morning where traffic is relatively light; it's much crazier on the weekdays. Mileage Mike did a great video on driving tips in New York City. It's a good watch and he's mostly spot on with it.
ya, New York is terrible with the left lane. Most of USA understands the left lane is for passing but NY and NJ don't get it. NYC is just terrible period for driving. Very selfish and immature driving culture. It's awful and the amount of honking is absurd. People here are idiots with the horn. The irony with this video, taxicab drivers are the worst here. I ride my bicycle across the GWB and down the Hudson Greenway whenever I visit the in-laws in NJ. Watching you in that gridlocked slog north on West St after you exit the tunnel just confirms that I am better off on a bicycle in Lower Manhattan and that if I ever needed to drive a car in Lower Manhattan, I would leave it to the pros like yourself.
I am from Europe and what I see is that our cars are smaller, more colourfull but not so clean :D our roads are in better conditions :) Greetings from Poland/Germany/Netherlands!

Just prepare yourself. Its not as clean as this. Theres a lot of litter and trash in most of the big cities but they try to keep the core parts of the city trash free. Im not saying this to ruin your dream but to lessen the shock once you arrive.

Cool video, It's nice to see Manhattan from this perspective. Just 1 question. WTF was going on at around the 19 min mark where there is the massive police, ambulance and fire department presence. Most of them standing around so it didn't seem too serious. It just seems a huge response for something minor.

I think I counted 21 emergency vehicles and most likely ~100 police and fire workers. All for one jumper? Seems like a waste of resources.

We must take into account the fact that more than 20 million people live in New York and the roads wear out faster.
NYC has very harsh winters in comparison to most of western Europe which benefits from the Gulf stream.
