Man ...I been gigging with this amp weekly for since it came out....I have the combo and head...now i want the 1x12...Goes from melissa ethertridge to ACDC in blink...best all around amp...:)
I have the 1x12 combo, very cool and underrated amp. For the $400ish you can find em for, pick one up, you won't be disappointed. Some great tones and features for sure. Really cool amp.
This guy is one of the most respected players on both coasts by people who actually know what talent sounds like. He's played in front of thousands of people at Farm Aid and elsewhere and is showing an amp here, not showing off his ability.
I don't get why e\veryone is hating on this amp I own a 212 its got to be the best overall sounding versatle amp out there great review as well,I have played all kinds of amps as well
Yep, I can get on board with that. I decided to go in a different direction in regards to practice amps myself (Orange lunchboxes), but I have nothing but good things to say about the alchemist. (*AT THIS PRICEPOINT*) I also own a Diezel Herbert mkII and a Bogner Ecstasy 101B. I wasn't arguing that this model doesn't capture its intended use properly, but rather that when you have played through legit high end amps, the Alchemist - or anything else in this pricerange - does feel/sound like a toy
Would of been cool if it had an option to send a stereo out for the built in fx into a slave amp. Though you can do it with the fx loop. The features are amazing.
To my ear it was overly bright and thin. I think a strat only adds to the brightness. I'd like to also have heard a Humbucker to see if its got any warmth.
i don't understand why folks (many of them!) don't like when something is cheap n good at the same time ....like this killer amp ......BTW i have the tube head version N it is Heaven 💎🏅💎 with a nice choice of tubes
Tone does get a lot better. I own this as well as high end fender, mesa and marshalls. For how much I paid, $425 new at musiciansfriend I got a whole lot of amp for the money paid. Do i like it as much as my others... no. but it does perform quite well.
I don't know, I think this amp sounds great. Great to be means not tinny sounding with good midrange and bottom end. The echo sounds like a plus too. I'm going to have to pick one of these up. Hopefully it'll sound as good live as in the video's I watched. I bought so many amps based on video's and none of them sound good live. BUT, my Fender Supersonic 22 has a fat growly sound even with my American Tele deluxe. I gotta hear one of these somewhere though.
I keep hearing that these amps are bound for problems I have had mine a year and never had a single problem I bought the amp for mostly home use as my jvm 2000 dsl with a 1960b cab is just to much for my home studio but I tell ya I would rather play through my bogner than my Marshall it has the sweetest tones and it can easily power a ext 2-12 cab so you can get that 4-12 fullness but what a great amp I will say though it should be priced at around 700-800 range 1300 is a little steep
Heyyyy, I have a Sage Green (MIM) Strat! I don't think I've ever seen another one. And I happen to have the Bogner Alchemist (head). I put it through a Frankenstein'd 4x12 8-ohm cab with 3 Markley Magnums and a Celestion G12M-70. It sounds incredible through that cab, but after having heard a few comparisons I am convinced that the combo version sounds a little tighter and brighter.
@benjamin1cs I owe the 112 and I Play a Les Paul 58 vos .. the sound is great! However sometimes is not that easy to find the right setting on the mercury channel if you change the guitar or if you're new with the alchemist.
I'll give you that tone is subjective, but I won't give you that this is 'the best' amp out there. I'm not hating, and I actually might pick this guy up to replace my practice amp; but anything this amp can do, its peers can do better. Play through a Marshall JCM800/JVM or VM and you'll understand why this is an"emulation." Play through a legit Bogner that isn't Chinese made, or a Soldano/Diezel and you'll see why people 'hate on this amp.' For what it is, it's fine; but tone gets *A LOT better.
does anyone known what the bogner alchemist combo 1x12 is still worth nowadays when it's in a good state? Because they don't sell them anymore at the shops so i have no reference, and i noticed the price drop they went through some years ago
I only play tube, nothing against solid state, its just preference. These amps sound way to shiny clean, they are plagued with problems and @ 1200$ there are too many great amps out there. Your gonna end up using pedals anyway, buy a fender.
Ok it's official!!! I'm fed up watching guitar gear reviewed by guys who can't play guitar and always seem to end what ever shit they're trying to play with an A chord...
Not bad for a sleeper amp. I like the simple use of built in delay and reverb!

Its a pretty great amp I agree. I have the 1x12 version and it's a really good sounding amp.
If you want ta knock it up a notch, grab your spice weasel! BAM
Great review, great player.
great demo! thank you:)

Nicely done sir.
I think it's a great review!

liked just for the title
Great review!

exactly, especially with maple fingerboard. It sounds too shiny to me too, i have a similar strat.
Very nice amp ! i like this sound.....Great
Awesome amp.

Model Stratocaster is a standard? Good sound and beatiful ampli! Bogner is a big!
Excellent that it is mic'd!

8y later do you like that Alchemist still?

man are you sick, you are always doin "aghaaaaaa"
what makes you think this guy can't play?
or that is a massive amp, or that is a small guy...
It’s 2x12 so decent size
Awful volume disparity between intro music and Dave speaking.
Where does Gear wire find these guys?
both!
@benjamin1cs I owe the 112 and I Play a Les Paul 58 vos .. the sound is great! However sometimes is not that easy to find the right setting on the mercury channel if you change the guitar or if you're new with the alchemist.
Walk All Over You tone was near on perfect hahaha nice amp!
I'll give you that tone is subjective, but I won't give you that this is 'the best' amp out there. I'm not hating, and I actually might pick this guy up to replace my practice amp; but anything this amp can do, its peers can do better.

Press 4 to crank up the mid
ME WANT YOU PLAY CANTRELL TONES!!!! NO OTHER THING!!!!
does anyone known what the bogner alchemist combo 1x12 is still worth nowadays when it's in a good state? Because they don't sell them anymore at the shops so i have no reference, and i noticed the price drop they went through some years ago
Denis840 I see them online for around $500 in good shape. I have one at a pawn shop near me for 315 CHF which is more or less $350
+Zac R Wo in der Schweiz?????
Φιλιππος Non c'est dans Genevois. I can't speak french
+Zac R such a pity... i'm not going to Geneva just for testing an amp...
I kinda doubt it's still there
seems to be a lot of hum and buzz on this amp noticeable when you're not playing. Is this normal for this amp?
singelcoils in guitar ;)
sounds great - maybe too trebly because of using a strat. I fear it might be too heavy to carry around.
But... it's about the tone, not the playing...?
I'd rather play a rectifier clean
COUGH-COUGH
what I hate about these review ist that those people talk too much :D
@superflea72 yeah it is man, i have an alchemist and his settings do suck, but is still no ubershall
yeah but a better player will get a much better tone from his fingers/playing style and get more out the amp ultimately
it sounds shit - I guess it could be his settings though...
You are a shit eater, so you must be pleased
@@fredhagy7730 lol, I guess if you say so....what are you, 10 years old? :)
@@superflea72 9 years old, and very, very drunk

Talk to much play n hush.!!!
You need to either quit smoking or deal with your congestion.
sounds kind of ratty.. my Swart sounds much better, IMO.
