This amp is much maligned. I bought one used during tough times to use my 1 guitar, a Mexi Strat with stock pickups through. And within a week I HATED it. Fast forward to great times, I bought a Les Paul 58 re-issue and a Friedman Smallbox, intending to ditch the Alchimist to some sucker. But I was lazy and the amp stuck around and wouldn't you know it, at a jam where a buddy of mine was being a dick and I got stuck playing this amplifier, I put my Les Paul through it and it sang sweetly all night. It prefers humbuckers, the cleans are stellar, it sounds much better through a 4x12. Turn up the clean channel with boosts engaged and it sounds fat and organic like an old bassman maybe, and that is where the glory is. Best for me, it fills just the right spot when blended in with my Friedman. Just stay far away from the dull ugly hot side and it shines.
My Alchemist combo is surprisingly good, and I have an Ecstacy too. The Alchemist is a very cool, very fun amp with the built in effects. A total steal for the $400 or $500 they usually go for on the used market. Love my Alchemist.
At 1:20 "If you want that screaming , kinda monster thing..." and then the tone is basically the same .Ok, so where is that "screaming, kinda monster thang??
Sounds FANTASTIC! I love that tweedy cleanish tone
i like how they chose a guitar that ties in with his outfit (which is fabulous btw).
it would nice to hear hum buckers too
