Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani made Major League Baseball history on Thursday, becoming the first player to join the exclusive 50:50 club during a game against the Miami Marlins. A 50:50 season is achieved by recording 50+ home runs and 50+ stolen bases in a single season, an extraordinary milestone that Ohtani reached in spectacular fashion.
Earlier in the game, Ohtani stole his 50th and 51st bases, then hit his 50th home run in the top of the seventh inning. The Japanese two-way phenom had already set the record as the fastest player to reach 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season, and his seventh-inning blast secured his place in the record books.
Ohtani’s performance didn’t stop there. He went 6 for 6 with 10 RBIs, hammering his 51st and 52nd home runs later in the game, making it his first career three-homer game and first 10 RBI performance. His impressive night, featuring two doubles, a single, three home runs, and a stolen base, helped the Dodgers secure a commanding 20:4 victory over Miami, clinching a playoff spot.
