(Sadly most of my friends/acquaintances have no interest in joining LE like I do).
I’ve just sent in all my paperwork.
Question: do you recommend applying to a few departments in my region? Or focus on just one?
I would say apply to a few, to avoid putting all eggs in one basket. One might call and the drag their feet, while another one might act quick. Friend of mine back in 2011 really wanted to work at the Dept where I was, after doing a ride along. Well he applied and they dragged their feet, so he went to another department that jumped on hiring him and now he is an outstanding Sergeant there and loves it.

Thanks!!! Yeah, it’s too dang easy to become negative, and being exposed to so much negativity doesn’t help. Awareness counts! 👍💪

I learned I wasn't as unhappy as I thought with my original department.
I left my first department for another department in my hometown. I realized pretty quickly I HATED working where I live and went back to my original department, despite the forced overtime and low staffing. Why? The people I worked with were awesome, the department provides far more opportunity, and the schedule works for me.
Is it the best for everyone? NO. But, for me, I couldn't be happier.
The department I left for isn't bad at all either, they treat their employees well and leadership was awesome.
Wow, talk about similar situations except I quit my hometown and went back (because fortunately they took me back) and had a blast because I worked with awesome people who were good police officers too. The main thing is one must have, as Tom said, that “true north”, and take action! Thanks again for offering input!
