    The boy and the bath is about a parent who accidentally let their child drown in a bath and their mind, ridden with guilt, makes illusions of the child haunt the parent. The video is great and has perfect atmosphere especially with the music. I had watched the video 3 times in the day before watching this video.

    I used to be really suggestible and obsessive, probably due to some at-the-time undiagnosed mental health issues. I'm better, but damn I'm glad this series wasn't on the internet when I was in high school lmao. Digging your thoughtful analysis.
    I'd also point out: the sound of trumpets is often associated with judgement day, which fits neatly into both the religious theme and the war-trauma theme. Seems very deliberately chosen for that reason.

  • @pallasrat247

    Learned about the boy in the bathtub for the first time here, I initially interpreted it as a sibling, presumably younger, that the viewer shirked their responsibilty for resulting in him drowning. Thus the significance of the dripping, him telling us we "left him there" and him then taking up his previous spot in the crib. I think the parentification of this older sibling could be reflected in the pov characters weariness at the beginning of the video, suggesting that they're being made to take on other roles within the house that are developmentally inappropriate

    • @tallulahraccoon3832
      @tallulahraccoon3832 24 дня назад +6

      Or you are just projecting your own parentification into it.
      There is literally no indication that it was a sibling.
      The POV with the crib takes place in the Master bedroom where the parents sleep. You usually would and should not put a crib in an older siblings room.
      The hesitation at the beginning can also be the parent having flashbacks from PTSD due to letting their kid die in this exact room.
      There is more indication that is either a metaphor for regret after abortion or that the new parent was not careful enough which resulted in the death of the boy.

    • @skyr5247
      @skyr5247 20 дней назад +16

      @@tallulahraccoon3832there's no indication that it's a parent either. It's incredibly vague what the relationship is between the boy and the pov character. While it is common that a crib would be placed in a master bedroom so that the parent/parents could easily reach the baby, this is something that might not be possible in a smaller home. It could be plausible that a crib is in the room of another child in the home, esp if it's a child tasked with caring for their younger sibling in the absence of their parents. And the dialogue of the boy combined with the parentification interpretation could paint a picture of an older sibling, feeling resentment for the boy due to the unfair situation they'd been put in, let them die, and now the boy resents how their sibling only saw them as a burden ("i never existed to you.") The beauty of the video is that it's vague enough to be up to interpretation so idk why you shot down the original commenter's so readily

    Honestly i really like the idea of the boiled one being a metaphor for ptsd. When I was a kid I used to have sleep paralysis very often to the point i got used to it and would just wait it out. I wasn't even scared anymore because i could tell when it was about to start and could just wake myself up before it did. But sometimes i would see this "demon" standing in the corner of my room staring at me and even before i would even go to sleep. And i would feel such a bone deep terror that i was too scared to even turn the light on when this happend. It would sometimes come up to my bed and stare at me while the only thing i could do was just lay there and hope it would leave. Surprisingly it never happend again after I moved out. When I talked to my therapist about this (because i wanted to cross out other disorders that i could have) she said it might have been a manifastation of all the trauma i went through, and once i moved out of my childhood home it got better (although i had still paranoia of strangers breaking into my flat while i was asleep) going to therapy and finding my own indentity in life literally got rid of my "demons"

    I think that when the Locust types words & ends up typing things like file names, I think it’s trying to mimic punctuation. When I was a young kid periods confused me a lot, so I would just write something & then after I finished I’d just put them in random spots to appease my teacher.

    The monster being a metaphor for PTSD/reoccurring trauma is really interesting and hits close to home. Without any proper medical diagnosis, you go through life with this faint pit in your stomach as you try to convince yourself that you're fine. It really does feel like a predator stalking its prey- pouncing when you least expect it. Its one of those things that is hard to explain, especially when you yourself don't *know* that its trauma yet- its just this feeling of unease that follows you and pops up whenever a seemingly unrelated topic makes it rear its ugly head at you again.
    I could talk a lot more about the medicalization of trauma- this idea that it has to be diagnosed by a doctor in order for it to be 'valid'- yet it's still there regardless if its existence has been validated by somebody else. And if you haven't gone to war, it isn't "valid" either- despite the fact that literally anything can manifest as trauma. Its this feedback loop of denial and trying to push through whatever you are feeling. Finally being able to acknowledge the struggle doesn't make it go away, but it at least helps manage it more. Anyway aha funny analog horror monster

    18:00 I immediately (especially from the “boy in the bath” title) thought about this being the manifestation of guilt from a parent who left their small child unattended in the bath, subsequently letting them drown. “I know you heard me” as in maybe you heard a splash, or a cry but didn’t come running in. Mainly what made me think of this was a previous game that’s really popular? I can’t remember what it’s called but essentially you go through all these rooms uncovering all of the ways these family members have died in this crazy wacky house. The sequence that always stuck with me the most was the one with the baby boy, who’s mother was distracted by phone calls and distress from a recent divorce, as the child plays and all his bath toys come to life only for this joyful sequence to be revealed as the child drowning in the tub, not even realizing what’s happening…

      dude that sequence made me cry while i was playing, like it's so innocent and fun through the baby's eyes but the entire time the player knows what's happening and has no way of changing the outcome of the situation since it's essentially a flashback... all of the ones where the family members died as children were incredibly sad but that one was most tragic of all i think (although there were a _lot_ that could be contenders, the entire game is so beautiful and tragic and the metaphors in it are fantastic, can't recommend it enough)

    my interpretation of the Boy and the Bath is that the parent neglected their son while he was in the bath, and he ended up drowning because of it, alot of other people share the same idea. However I always thought it was strange that the boy's head is weirdly cropped off at the top for some reason. Maybe he slipped and crack his head open while he was in the bath, leading him to drown?

    Then later i went grocery shopping, and when i was walking back, i heard a sound that was eerily similar to the trumpet sound in the boiled one, and when i realized that i watched the video before going to the store, and remembering that people affected by phen 228 hear the trumpets, i got chills, for a slight nano second i felt dread

They are so dirty they cant even get comfortable enough to sleep anymore, but when they go to the bath they just see their child, or a horrific representation haunting them. Wild stuff when you get high enough to think about it. The obvious monster is the first person view, not the white figure.

    Unbroken was actually originally a biography by the same name and I had to read the censored version in 8th grade for a class I was in. Even that censored version was so deeply disturbing that it still sticks with me today. Since finding out The Bird either is or has a connection with The Boiled One, the series has been significantly more terrifying. Watanabi was called The Bird by American soldiers who were held at the Japanese POW camp he was in charge of and they called him that because if he heard them saying his name, he would beat them half to death. There was more behind why that particular 'bird' was chosen but I read the book like 9 years ago so my recall is a bit muddled. Anyway, The Bird is genuinely one of the most horrifying figures of WW2 for me, especially because he never faced justice for the war crimes he committed. He got to live his life after brutally torturing soldiers to a degree that showed he did it for his own enjoyment more than anything. The Bird particularly had it out for Zamparini in real life so the idea that even in death he tormented Louis... It mkes my skin crawl.

    this truly IS comfort of my gore character. love locust, he's just a little guy!! the comparison i made to my friend a week ago was that the locust reminds me of clover from cloverfield. it's not outright "aggressive", but it's destructive nonetheless. clover stumbled wildly onto land and happened to start knocking stuff down as she learned to use her new, baby limbs. the locust appears to be driven by curiosity, a toddler that needs to look and touch and learn about the world.

    I don’t know why I watched this video at night, IN THE DARK OF MY BEDROOM. I’ve been avoiding this series like the plague because just seeing pictures from it triggers my paranoia so severely. I thought watching the series through an explanation video would help, but no, I’m scared shitless lol.

      :( I'm sorry my friend, if it makes you feel any better I plan to cover some of the other videos from Doctor Nowheres channel, and they are (surprisingly) much more lighthearted and even wholesome. These ones not so much, but that could be a palate cleanser later
      I hope you're doing well

    I've been a fan of doctornowhere for a while, back when he would make little shorts and I didn't realize he was working on a series. His work, specifically the boiled one, has literally and I mean LITERALLY been the only thing on RUclips to traumatize and scare me and linger within my brain with fear as an adult. It literally sends chills down my spine even thinking about him and sometimes if I start hearing horns at night I can't sleep. It is actually creepy and cool to find something this impactful and creative and elaborate. Y'all be careful lol

    Amazing video, I love your stuff! I think The Boy and The Bath is about a child who maybe had some sort of accident while in the shower that resulted in their death. We see the POV of the parent, clearly struggling after this trajedy. The creature, I believe, isn't the titular boy, but the personification of the parent's bad thoughts and grief. It takes a distorted and ugly shape, alike to how hideous someone's subconcious can become after this much trauma. They are fighting against themselves, trying to reason with their own head that it wasn't their fault. I don't think it was their fault, but they cannot see the truth with this thing in their mind.
    I think it is meant to represent the idea that after a trajedy such as this, those who mourn may find awful thoughts about themselves creeping into their head, as if planted by a third party. These people then have to conquer this in order to come to terms with their loss

    The first one reminded me a lot of Frankensteins creature if your familiar. It once was naturally alive and than turned into this thing somehow. It would make sense how it learns speech at an alarming rate and with its childlike tendencies like stated. Maybe the texting we saw was from him the locust. It would make sense the familiarity between them. They used to be friends something happend to him to turn him into that and he goes to his freind completely new and changed not knowing what to do.

    My interpretation of the boy in the shower is a parent who had a child but no longer wanted to take care of it for whatever reason and gave it up for adoption and is now haunted by it or something much darker along those lines.

    for the one at 18:17 i think the person we are having the pov from is the parent they put their baby in the tub probably using one of those inflatable neck ring things and they sat down but fell asleep as the water kept rising and rising eventually ending up either drowning the baby or if the inflatable was too good it hanged the baby which is what i think happened due to the elongated nature of the thing and the weird messed up neck
