Krio.q I don’t want be an ass but how do you forget to drive a manual it’s like riding a bike... I think you’re just a bit rusty but you’ll get back in the gist :)
I suggest you to use the engine break and downshift to slow down, and don't put it in neutral before stopping, the car acts differently if it's not in gear, good video anyway, even though i didn't liked the way he handled that stick, in europe beginners shift like that
Just to be clear, the method of starting from a stop with no gas is to help you learn and feel the friction point of the clutch. I ALWAYS give my car some gas when I am starting from a stop (mostly because I wouldn't start rolling fast enough for other drivers behind me). Some cars cannot start moving from a stop without giving them some gas or they will stall, however most modern day cars are able to automatically add fuel to compensate for not using the throttle. Again, this technique is for practice only, hope this helps!
Marc Beyer You can do whatever you want. When i first started driving stick I I downshifted but now I just stick it in neutral and coast myself to a stop. But I feel like coasting to a stop is a bit more advanced. Yes it's fine to downshift I just like to use my clutch as little as possible
Now this is a guy who just earned my sub! All other people who try to explain it talk too much, and give complicated and long winded details of how it works instead of just showing how to do it.
@@justinbuice Late reply but damn this video helped me so much. I watched all these other how-to videos but they always spend one hour talking about getting comfortable sitting down, like bruh. Your video was the best one I've seen. Thanks for that.
Enjoyed watching this. It's videos like these I appreciate--no over-the-top gimmicky nonsense. The outtakes are a nice touch too. But gotta admit guilt, if my hand isn't on the shifter, it doesn't feel like I'm driving (even in automatics) 🤣
Wow, this is undoubtedly the most simplistic and concise "manual how-to" video I've seen thus far (and done in my dream car, the 3 series at that). Very well done Justin. 👌👍
Hey Justin, Thanks a bunch for putting this manual shifting video together. I am currently teaching my fiance how to drive a stick and she is doing well...so I can now have her open up your video to assist her in between teachings, so thanks again. I too am a BMW driver, I've had two BMW's the E39 triptronic and now the Manual trans / E60 550i . Keep the videos coming
you summarized how to drive a stick shift better then any video I've watched. you didn't complicate things while you explained it. made it quick & simple ....thx & i subscribed
Been driving standards my whole life was dropped in a parking lot with an over the Chevy cavalier z24 and told to bring him his car home lol trying to teach my girl how to drive stick but she's been struggling and I don't think I'm the greatest teacher so I'm going to show her your video and pray she understands! Thanks
I used to watch my Dad drive his manual 94 Mitsubishi Eclipse but he never taught me how to drive manual since he was deployed during that time. So I'm chillin with that automatic gang but eventually I'm looking to get a manual and then put in time with it n learn. This video definitely helped a lot with how to drive manual.
Just purchased my first car which is standard, out of all the “how to drive standard videos” I ’ve watched on RUclips this is definitely the best one !!! great video brother!!!!
Best video I’ve seen! I’ve had problems explaining it to my daughter, so I’m having her watch this. I now understand how my mom felt! 🤣 Hurray for RUclips! Thank you!!! Wish I would have had you for a teacher back in the day! 😊
you da man Buice. even tho I already know how to drive stick, I don't mind watching your videos. keep it up man. awesome channel. watching since 7000 subs.
Wow this really helped me. Ive always wanted this 2016 Camaro at my local dealership but could never get it because of the transmission. This really helps. Now to get some practice before I trade in my automatic Dart.
Me dad lets me drive his e36 in some empty parking lots sometimes to help me learn because I want a standard for my first car and this video is cool just seeing different opinions and feels compared to you and my dad, great vid! I'm 14 btw
Dang, this video was actually really simple, I agree with you, I've been watching videos on how to drive manual, and this one has definitely been the best one
Just got my 328ci last Wednesday. This would be first car and the fact that it’s manual has me super excited with what’s to come. Super helpful video I can’t wait to get on the road 💪🏽
It's quite interesting how in the US many ppl don't know how to drive manual cars and here, in Europe, manual cars are more common than automatic cars. I think I drove 3 or 4 times an automatic car and it was such a boring experience lol Anyway, you've done a good job, very helpful for ppl who want to learn how to do it! Cheers Justin!
Manual cars are pretty rare here and are mostly owned by car enthusiast. I live in the Detroit area where the majority of cars are American brands where manual transmissions aren't even an option.
Justin Buice Really? then your BMW must be such an exotic car around there lol I live in the south of UK, here is mainly about BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Pretty boring! I have a BMW myself and I see everyday so many ppl with the same car as me lol
There's honestly no other feeling like driving a manual car(I drive a diesel truck), pressing down into the clutch moving you arm and hand to put into gear and then letting off the clutch to go is just amazing, automatic cars cool and all but there's just no better feeling than driving a manual
Man, this is the best informative video i ever watched about manual driving everything i wanted to ask about in other videos you just answered it without me asking you covered everything Thank.
I'm just now learning how to drive a manual. My dad's driven stick shift his whole life and he's now teaching me. The way he learned was to put it in reverse and go uphill to get a feel for when the clutch grabs, I'm learning the same method.
My dad had me come to a rolling stop in the hill then slowly release the clutch. Yes, I did dump the clutch and stall it. Yes, I did get somewhat frustrated. Yes, I did manage to grind the reverse gear a small bit (sometimes, you gotta grind em to find em). And finally, yes, I did have the glorious moment where I absolutely nailed it. It's all a matter of trial and error.
Drove stick shift my entire life, it was the standard where I come from then I moved to Canada and started having compliments about it .. people being afraid of it, stick shift is the way to go, you control the car you control the rev and you control your fuel consumption as well.
At the beginning you showed to start learning first gear without using the gas petal. That only works on vehicles with Hill assist. Manual vehicles without hill assist will just shut off if you don't add a bit of gas. A lot of modern vehicles come with hill assist but in the event someone purchases an older vehicle it is best to inform them of this issue. As always great video. You should have another video showing tricks with Manual vehicles. Like how to do a rolling start in case your starter is not working.
If you have a lighter car like mine, a '02 VW Beetle (that doesn't have hill assist), you can actually get the car rolling without using any gas. I'm sure you're right about heavier vehicles though.
Pretty much all stick shifts that I tried roll on their own if you keep the engagement point correctly. Including my MK4 03 Jetta (130hp 2,0L) without hill assist, or even my old shitty toyota echo 2001, can't speak for others cars though, but that's my experience
Moved to Europe and no one here drives automatic so I´m going for my first manual driving lesson now. I´m terrified but thanks for the great video. It helped calm my nerves!

Once I get my Honda fixed i'm going to start practicing like this to get it again it's been about 15 years since i drove a stick. I drove 4 stick shifts in my life time. This one is a little messed up so it isn't normal driving it as it would be a normal stick. Once it gets fixed it should be a lot easier to drive.

Justin Buice I realize you hold the clutch in a bit everytime you shift as you go to the next gear. is that okay for the clutch?
Phong Phan don't even think to shift gears without engaging the clutch else you'll be ruining your gearbox
Justin Buice is it good to down shift
Marc Beyer
You can do whatever you want. When i first started driving stick I I downshifted but now I just stick it in neutral and coast myself to a stop. But I feel like coasting to a stop is a bit more advanced. Yes it's fine to downshift I just like to use my clutch as little as possible
imnottellingyoumyname fuckoff If anything coasting is probably easier since it's now just you and the brake
This was actually a great tutorial because now A. I know how to drive stick.
B. You aren't cringey.
You make this soooo simple that now I want to purchase a bmw in manual.

Hunter Edwards second that 👍🏼👍🏼
Hussien A. 3rd that
Hunter Edwards I wonder if he even knows how to do that
it comes naturally, believe me. just need to practice a little and of course read up a tad on the subject just get the general idea.
