  • I decided to make a little tips and tricks video on modding watches. This video was inspired by my own mishaps due to my haphazard nature. 🤣
I want to strongly emphasise this is for amateur hobbyists only. Not for the professionals and any advice given is through my personal experience and merely my humble opinion.

      Hi Mike,
That's great, which is what my intention was regarding this vid..more people to take it on themselves.
I would say on the point of heimdallr and homage watches, just be careful. They may not be dimensional accurate in regards to crystal or bezel insert fittings. RUclips the model and see if it has been modded on RUclips before you give it a go.
      Cheers 👍🏼

Thanks for the useful hints and tips. I'm looking in to Pagani Design at the moment and I hear you can switch out bezels for Seiko SKX and other bits as Pegani use NH35 movements. Be cool if you did a vid on modding the Pegani 1651. Good to hear a voice on hear from Brum as I'm down in Bristol and miss home. Keep up the good work. Big up Brum!

Thanks Garfield. Im not big into modding and just work on my own pieces. Yes I am aware you can mod the dial with a 28.5mm dial and maybe the bezel too..tbh not a fan of the yatch master bezel inserts.
I may look to make a couple of mod videos soon

@@TheWatcherReviews I find the 1651 black on black quite an unusual stealthy look and thats what got my attention but tbh I was on the Ali express sale and ended up getting the PAgani GMT in the Batman. Hope it's what I expect.... guess I find out in about a month as missed Chec Rep option. I love the orange seconds hand on your seiko SKX and might pluck up the courage to have a go and swap out my standard white one. Where the best place to get a swap kit with hands for the SKX. Much appreciated.

@@garyc2164 yeh the 1651 in grey is really nice too.
The orange secs hand is a nice mod as it goes with the orange writing at bottom.
It's not as hard as it looks but you just need to be very careful and remain calm. Step at a time and have correct tools.
Hand removal tools and dial protector is a must.
There is a store on ebay called 'raffles time' which is in singapore, but due to covid their shipping has gone to £25 so I would order alot more sets etc. They do a nice marinemaster orange secs hand.
The one i used was from slovenia I think, and called the 'apple seed'. However I dont think they are on ebay anymore.
When I got my seconds hand it took me a while to actually do the mod as I was still unsure, but thats how you learn.
Try messing with the cheaper watches to get your confidence up

Thanks for this video much appreciated 👍 I always get little bits inside the glass when putting the movement back in, then I whiped the inside of the glass with a polishing cloth and put all back together however lots of little bits of dust and bits of the cloth inside the glass, before I ho back in any tips on cleaning the inside of a glass before reciting the movement, cheers

    • @murph8411
      @murph8411 3 года назад +1

Keep everything away from your case when you take the movement out and/or close it again or keep it in a clean box or plastic zip lock bag while you’re not working on it.
I use lint free tissue but that’s because I bought lots of whatman lens tissues years ago and have never used it all for cleaning my microscope lenses.
Use gloves or finger cots as well.
If it’s just the glass a lens tissue with alcohol is probably the easiest and quickest way to clean it. I also keep a small watercolour brush for wiping any bits of visible dust away. A soft squirrel hair or other natural hair brush won’t scratch anything as long as you keep it clean and wash it before use if it has been sitting.

      Hi
Thank you for the positive feedback. Regarding tools, there are quite a few and prices vary quite a bit. You may also come across slightly better tools so I thought I would leave it up to the viewers to chose. Plus I think it's part of the experience in amateur watch modding. If you need any recommendations then please let me know 👍🏼

Doesn’t any grease or wet lubricant just attract more dirt and create more wear in your bezels? They should really work without any lubricant since they are meant for diving where any lubricant would surely tend to wash away as well, no?
Maybe a dry lubricant like Teflon, graphite, moly be dum or the like might not attract dirt and dust as much.

Hi, I would like to know which dial legs would have to be cut for a 4.1 (o'clock) position on the dial face. I cut the legs on my dial for a 3.8 position and I am slightly off in alignment with the case (tuna can case). I can't find any answers other than ordering a tuna case for 3.8 position. Thanks

    • @TheWatcherReviews
      @TheWatcherReviews  7 месяцев назад

Only a few dial offer dial feet for 3.8 with the triple legs installed. Best way is to check like for like.

Hi, thanks for the tips and tricks, I put together a watch with an NH35A movement, it ran fine for two days but now it tries to run and stops. Could the problem be with the movement itself, I know that there is no interference with the hands. It seems to stop in the same spot. Would over-winding cause this or magnetization? Thanks

    • @TheWatcherReviews

Not at all, ive had this same issue and i found that partial disassembly and reassembly does fix it. I think the pallet fork is out of sync with something and causes this unless the hair spring was damaged. This issue usually arises due to transport or a shock to the movement. Ive sold countless movements like this as spares and repair

Saw your video and i have a question - if i may.
Sadly, I find myself only liking watches that are very expensive.
But I don't care about the name, so my question is : Is it possible to have someone (not me!) make a watch from scratch by buying the parts to make my dream watch?
    Is this possible?

Try banging it at the same angle into your palm, should loosen the spring if it is caught. If not then you may need to replace movement
