- Here is another AliExpress special. This time it s GMT. Accidentally uploaded this in 480p, this is the re-posted video. Thank you to all who have subscribed and have commented on my videos. I am trying to make these videos to document my journey into watch building and repair and I am so thrilled you are watching.
This build cost roughly 90.00 USD

Thank you Bryant for this brilliant video, was really interesting and i lovehow the watch ended, such a beautiful piece.
See you next time from France 😉
Thank you so much for the compliment. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I have another video coming soon. I am just waiting on watch hands to come in.
Thanks for posting. I’m just starting this same journey and it’s heartening to see that I’m not the only one struggling with simple tasks.
Every journey begins with the first step. I am learning as I go and getting as much practice on inexpensive watches before attempting to go bigger. I hope you enjoy your journey as much as I enjoy mine. Good luck and thank you for watching.
This video is fantastic! Don't worry about your camera or your "heavy hands." It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't pretend to be perfect. I love that you reuse your rubber finger protectors, that the camera shakes, and that you admit when you don't always know what you're doing. It makes your video so authentic and relatable.
I've come to believe that the big watch RUclipsrs don't deserve as much attention anymore. They've lost their way, and it's all about money now. Teddy Baldassar always talks about the sentimental value of watches and pretends to be interested in vintage pieces, acting like that's what's important in collecting. I once met him at a show when he was at SINN and wanted to show him my rare SINN vintage watch from the 60s, back when Helmut Sinn was still involved. This watch holds a lot of emotional value for me and is truly rare. I showed him the watch and briefly explained its significance, but he didn't care at all. That showed me it's all just for show. He lost a subscriber that day, and you've gained one today. Keep it up!
Thank you for the very kind words. Watch collecting once again became a hobby for me a few years ago and with most things I start to do I want to know all I can about the subject. Learning to work on watches and bring them back to life is such a treat. I watch Teddy Baldassar mostly for the guests he talks to. I have a vintage Bulova that is in the final stages of a service and I am just down to one final piece. I cannot wait to share that with you. btw, I would love to see your watch collection. Feel free to hmu on socials or email me. info is in the about section.
@@laststopwatchchannel Oh, I'd love to. Just emailed you!
@@laststopwatchchannel the mail in your bio doesnt work. I have added you on watchcrunch
When I put hands on the watch , I am using rubber twizers not to scratch the dial, keep up with the great videos
Good tip! Thank you
These watch build vids are awesome!
Thank you for the compliment and for watching. It is a lot of fun to put these together. I'll try to come up with more ideas, but if you have a watch you would like to see me make, let me know.
I have built similar watches with NH34A movements in last July, worked very well. This movement is very accurate and affordable. I had different coloured date wheel.
that is awesome! I would love to see some pictures if you have them.
Nice looking watch, well done.
Why thank you. I need to get back to some builds. My favorite thing to do
Lovd the cream dial! Very nice while the thicker case gives a more rugged look. Really cool watch
Thank you so much. After making this watch I found this looks very similar to a Grand Seiko. I really love the look and the fit.
Ur camera looks fine man. Clear and I can see what you’re doing. Just subbed as well keep up good work
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback, kind words, and the sub to the channel.
GMT hand pusher: Plastic retractable ball point pen works great! Dial feet fit by friction on this type of movement. :) I built a similar watch in a different case with a different dial for my first build a few weeks ago. Now I'm making a build in this same 'retro' case but with a dive watch dial/hands look.
That sounds fantastic. I would love to see photos when completed. All socials and email are in my about page.
When attaching the crown to the stem, instead of turning the crown, turn the stem. Makes life a lot easier.
Thank you. I will give that a try on the next build.
Watch looks great.
Thank you. I really like it. The strap left something to be desired, so I replaced it with a leather one and I am much happier.
Great work!
Thank you so much. One of the more fancy looking builds I have done.
Subbed based on the Panerai homage 👍
Awesome and thank you. I appreciate you watching and liking.
very beautiful build!
I quite like it. Accidentally make a Grand Seiko Homage
Movement holder and rodico will help you a lot. Also brass or plactic tweezers for hands (no scratches).
funny part is I have rodico. I just forget to use it. thank you for the tips. supposedly have brass tweezers somewhere too.
@@laststopwatchchannel
Rodico is super uselful. I got myself nh movement holder, round one a bit heavier than plastic screw one.
It is more stable when pushing hands for example.
As a Seiko Moder those Videos always inspire me. Thank you very much. And great Build
Glad you like them!
Just subscribed - I’m interested in sourcing all components and looking forward to learning about watches.
Cheers
Thank you for subscribing. It will be a journey for both of us. Just sourced some mod parts for a Casio which. Should be here soon. Will also continue to explore repair and builds. Do you have a particular style watch you like best?
Congratulations!!!
thank you so much. I really enjoy sharing these builds with everyone.
Looks mint, would buy
Thank you for the compliment. This watch wears and runs well. It looks so much better with a different strap.
1/ use rodico to manipulate and put the hands on place instead of tong and fingers. way more easier.
2/ dont press totally before making the test, press just enough and test it . if your min hand is at 10 instead of 12, just move it gently with toothpick on the 12. you dont need to totally remove it. then test again, and if it's ok, now you can press it totally.
3/ to alignate back and top, just use some piece of steel wire, place them in the holes of the top, put in place and you will just have to put the wires trough the hole of the back part. then of course, remove the wire and put the screws
Thank you for the advise. I do tend to stumble around a bit and the rodico should help. I tend to forget I have it lying around.
Your new GMT came out very nice. The strap color looks good with the dial color, but also looks very plastic to me. A very nice build overall.
I totally agree. I wonder what kind of 19" strap I could replace it with.
Hi love the channel and what your doing I tried to make the Pan homage watch but the dial was to thick or something because the winding stem was off centre by quite a bit, any advise or just get different case? Thanks for reading and hope you do well sir.
Andy.
if the crown stem was off center horizontally in relation to the case then adjusting the movement should help. if it was off center vertically, then I would check to make sure you have the dial pressed all the way down on the movement. Other than that I am not sure. Would love to see what you ended up with!
cool video, love the watch, shaky camera is barely noticeable
Thank you for the video and the comment.
Use radico to put hands on, it will stop you from scratching the movement and case with metal tweezers or get plastic tweezers
Thank you! I now have both rodico and plastic tweezers. Trick for me is to remember to do both.
Cool...👍
Thank you. I had a lot of fun making this one
Did you ever figure out that the very tip of the second hand was bent down and catching the hour hand? It was easy for us to see on camera but maybe you didn’t notice. Haha
I did. I was able to fix after the fact and the watch ticks away happily now. Thank you. I am always open to help and suggestions.
I can’t imagine someone watching this who is unfamiliar with a gmt
FYI: don’t ever hold a movement with your fingers on top and bottom as seen in this video, only grip it by the edges.
Thank you. I will watch out for that in future.
Great
Thank you for watching
Fantastic video, well explained. 👌
Would it be possible to put links to the watch parts that you bought off Ali Express ?
Links are now added! Thank you for watching!
Hello very interesting to watch. Will there be a true gmt miyota 9075 sold in Ali?
I am not 100% sure. I know some of the Seiko movements are genuine movements, so there is always the possibility.
I subbed.
Thank you kindly!
Your camera is fine.
Thank you.
I just ordered this same kit the other week lol glad its ok. How was the strap after a few wears ?
I replaced the strap almost immediately as it felt cheap. Rocking a nice leather strap from Amazon now.
I thought that lol just as well I ordered a Milanese strap too
I’m a bit late to the party as I’m only just getting into making my own watches. I’ve just completed my first and have parts for another 2 coming. I really like the look of this watch but the link you supplied is no longer working. Is there a name for this case or do you have a link to the seller as I’ve spent hours trolling Ali express trying to find one the same without success
Ill update this on the video as well, but this is the ONLY thing I could find that is close. www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806704374495.html?channel=twinner
Hello, interesting video! Can I ask what the name and function is of the gasket/ring that goes around the stem on which the hands come and which the dial goes on top?
name is crown stem gasket and it is there to keep water/dirt out of the movment when the screw down crown is in place. The hands go in order of GMT (blue), hour, minute, second.
@@laststopwatchchannel thanks for your response, but I wanted to know the function of the ring that goes around the pin that holds the hands on which the dial goes on top.
if its the flat ring you are referring to that is a dial washer which gently keeps the dial back off the canon pinion. It is there to reduce friction between the canon pinion and the dial back.
Yes, that's the one! Thanks for letting me know!
@@bashofkens8778 apologies for taking so long. Your second message ended up being held for review for some reason.
Hey I have question for you, those calibers from Ali are mostly copies of real Seiko movements. Did you spot any difference in power reserve and daily accuracy -40/+20 sec?
Great video, keep going!
Thank you for the compliment ! For the particular watch in this video I do know the power lasts about a day after I take it off wrist. It seems to keep perfect time but I don't have anything to really measure that with yet. I'll probably be scooping up some tools soon for regulating and checking time.
I notice in the pictures on Ali that they appear to be genuine Seiko movements, just a variant they sell for repair/replacement/modding. If you look at the picture of the rotor that winds the watch, TMI means made in Hong Kong by Time Module, Inc. now owned by Seiko. If it says SII, then it is made by Seiko Instruments, Inc. in Chiba Japan. Genuine parts off the "line." The ones in a Seiko watch are probably taken from the "line" and calibrated and inspected before installing. But I don't know that for a fact. I have a $300 Seiko 5 I recently bought pre-owed from a watch collector. Given it's $200 in my area just to take the movement apart and oil it and regulate it, I will spend $30 on Ali and replace it soon. It appears to run over a minute slow which tells me it is time for a cleaning and lubrication.
it sounds like you could possibly get away with adjusting the regulator on that watch to help with time. Let me know when you do replace the movement and if you plan to film. I would love to watch.
whats the name of that little piece between the dial and the movement?????
That is the dial washer. Seemingly unimportant but in truth, very important. blog.watchdoctor.biz/2019/11/04/what-is-a-dial-washer/
Any chance for a link to hands used here ?
The hands were in the package with the case and strap. www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805563673159.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.29.d2331802KJHfqO&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa
You need a cheap movement holder. $10 and will make things much easier.
I have some and keep forgetting to use them.
How much was the build? Very nice outcome.
Thank you for watching. roughly 90.00
what's the diameter of the case and the dial?
Case: 38.4
Lug to lug: 46.4
Dial:31mm (came with the case)
Thank you. I forgot to mention or show any of that in the video.
@@laststopwatchchannel thanks! been looking at the same case but I wasn't really sure about the 31mm dial. But it turns out to be beautiful watch by looking at your build. And I think they just released new case version with screw down caseback (not using small screws anymore).
Bonjour bravo pour ce montage, mais ce bracelet ne semble pas en cuir de qualité et pas assez souple pour votre poignet 😂 Gilles de France
Thank you for watching! Yes, I almost immediately replaced this bracelet. The material is very stiff and of poor quality. I would like to find someone who makes leather watch straps so that I can purchase and show off better quality.
Ich hätte noch diesen hässlichen Rotor ausgetauscht...
Lol. Ich wollte das verwenden, was mit der Bewegung geliefert wurde, aber das könnte ein zukünftiges Video sein. Vielen Dank für die Idee und vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen. Übersetzt von Google Translate
Need to stop using metal tweezers on the hands bro. Scratch the shit out of them.
I have brass tweezers and now I have plastic to use as well. Thank you for the tip and thank you for watching
I dont know how you can wear those finger condoms and do that work. It’s not a $100k patek so it’s not gunna matter if your fingers touch it. Old school Rolex trained watch makers don’t even wear that stuff.
I'm switching to gloves. The finger gloves cut circulation off.
Skin oils and moisture wreak havoc on a movement. Hands will sweat in nitrile gloves and that might drip in the movement if you're not careful. Finger cots help prevent that. The fact old time rolex techs didn't do it is a bad argument. We used asbestos and lead paint before we knew of its devastating effects
There's absolutely no shame in taking pride in your craft. You should always aspire to do your best regardless of which project you're working on.
Be it a parts kit for a $100 watch, or a $100,000 A. Lange a smudge is a smudge is a smudge.
Not worty of anyone else's opinion. If this is how the man wants to work it's fine.
