The tuba player is brilliant, I played tuba in the Kent County youth orchestra for 3 or so years in the mid 60s and soloed this piece about 3 times. It was great..I chose a medical career rather than music and don’t regret it at all. But being reminded of the arethusa etc makes me think that music as a career might have been more fun and less fraught
@@georgiakolitsida No ,believe me I played it Dozens of times and it’s a form of. tuba yes, you are sort, of right but in my humble cxperience A tenor horn, baritone , euphonium and Eflat And BB flat and indeed sousaphone are all shades of tuba in orchestral terms. I rejected music for medicine as a career, but I’m still happy. The semantics allowing the mechanics of brass valved instruments , tenor horn , baritone, Euphonium. and Eflatt and double B flatt instruments from orchestras and brass bands are tubas.. in my mind , , no discussion , disputable Embrochure Apart , if you can play one you can play them all. Ergo they are all part. Of the the same musical family like violin, viola cello and string bass.
Just tradition for the last night, everyone lets their hair down a bit, musicians and singers included (hence all the decoration and audience bobbing up and down, pretending to be upset at parts of the music etc.). It's British dry humour and eccentricity.
I was there for this !!
The crying thing is awesome...a real treat indeed
At 4.42 and 5.20 the violinist inserts a few bars of other tunes. He does it each year ...what a talent!!
Beautiful music!

@@dereka-h8764a baritone is definitely not a tuba 😂
The Princess Royal?
The audience acts kind of weird..
part of the music is where a seaman is killed....... the rest is PARTY TIME

Never seen the Proms before, I take it? This...is mild.
Indeed - I remember one year they tried to ban the horns... So the Prommers brought in extra large ones!
This is the best musical event on the planet !!!
