- This is an instructional tutorial 5-string bluegrass banjo lesson teaching an instrumental break for the Bill Monroe classic "Blue Moon of Kentucky." On this video I teach the break -- measure by measure, phrase by phrase, using on-screen tablature, then I put it together -- slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and on-screen chord prompts.
Hear this tune played with guitar rhythm backup (slow, medium, fast) starting at 15:00. Guitar chords are provided on-screen.
Free downloadable tab sheets (PDF) and play-along tracks (MP3) for this and many other tunes are available at my website, www.littlerockbanjo.com.
Hope you enjoy.

It would make my year if you could do a tutorial on how to play “Small farm in Kentucky” by John Anderson, I’ve always wanted to learn it for my dad and I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask
Why would 2 give this a thumbs down?
I guess you are charging too much Bill.

Bill, great arrangement, but are you going to do an arrangement of the 2nd part of the song ? It was on that moonlight night, etc...
I love this! Thanks for the tutorials. I started learning banjo with your videos and I think I've become a bit of an addict... ;-)
Any chance you'd be up for doing the crazy popular (on Tiktok) sea shanty of The Wellerman? I know it's not bluegrass, but gosh it's so beautiful! I see people play it on banjo but can't quite get it....
