Thank you for honoring the father of American country music - Bill Monroe. Also the father of bluegrass music.

Hey, nice lesson! First heard this song performed by Rory Gallagher actually. It's a good version too, bit different to the original one, but good nontheless (if you don't mind it being a bit rough around edges!). Country music often gets a bit overlooked by rock and blues musicians. Hence why I mentioned Rory Gallagher. A good example that it's okay for a blues rocker to perform whatever songs he wants. Music is just music, genres shouldn't become barriers. Great singing by the way! Was nice to hear you perform the song with three so distinctly different type of vocals!

I think the strumming pattern is:
    Pick & U & U D U
That sounded best to me but I picked up guitar earlier this week, any input would be appreciated!

Probably my fav song to play. if you had a straight fringe and didnt smile so much you would be the double of my dearly departed friend. Many a good time was had at kens house after a few beers and a sneaky jamacian woodbine on his les paul. o and you have a great voice.

First off, I enjoy your videos and appreciate your efforts. However, I wish you (and most other online instructors) would spend less time teaching the chords and more time teaching the rhythm. If people are have progressed to the point of learning songs, they should already know the chords. The hard part is learning the strumming pattern and knowing how many measures to play each chord. If you'd like an example, I'd suggest you view Tomas Michaud's tutorial for Bad Moon Rising. Thanks again for all your hard work.

skoop113 I fully agree, rhythm, groove and feel as well as dynamics are the forgotten children of the RUclips tutorial culture. The vast majority of these tutorials cater to people that have not even put in the minimal time commitment to learn the names of even the most basic chords (more properly, chord shapes). The whole focus of a complete subculture of tutorials is on teaching the chords and progression while leaving the student in complete darkness as far as understanding of the fundamentally percussive nature of the instrument and the overwhelming importance of rhythm and time. That is why a lot of these students quit the instrument because though they eventually learn the chords and progressions, they can't keep proper time or project emotion through proper control of strumming dynamics... Any music student will flunk out a performance evaluation if the timing is off, even though every single note has been played correctly. Conversely, the student will most likely pass if the timing is perfect but melody and even harmony is off now and again. The problem is, the demand for the product is predicated on a desire to learn songs, rather than to learn music fundamentals in general and how to play an instrument in particular. Anyone who pushes fundamentals, risks losing a lot of potential subscribers. Just look at a channel like spytunes: incredible technique, vocals and production value but a paltry 5k subs because of the "do or die" approach. That said, there are plenty of excellent channels that manage to thread the needle...

You guys are absolutely correct. My free lessons are lacking in that area. I took steps to correct that and do a much better job on my songmentor.com website and program.

Well, perhaps you had expected the man to somersault his way through making this video, with fireworks and female dancers in the background? Not to mention herds of wildebeests sweeping majestically across his recording facility.

Hello Brandon, Here is the man that makes clothes (use to ) for Elvis Bernhard Lansky, Memphis, Tenn. Look him up, maybe he can design some clothes for you, you got to keep working on Elvis if you want to be like him, face, hair, music, learn to sing just like him, then dress like him. Play guitar like him.

Bluegrass….not country. A classic 3 chord masterpiece. It’s been turned into country and even rock but it’s originally pure bluegrass. I like to play it really slow 👍🏻.
