Review: 2024 Lexus GX 550 - Next-Generation Icon
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- After nearly 15 years (!!!) there's finally a new generation GX! It gets lots of big changes, ditching its old V8 for a twin-turbo V6, adding in extra refinement, space, and a fully modern interior, all on a new platform. Plus it's got some new off-road tricks for more capability than ever before and over 9,000 lbs of towing capacity. In this video I'll primarily be focusing on the Premium+ and Overtrail trims and will cover the exterior, interior, what it's like to drive, how it does off-road, along with fuel economy and ending with pricing and competitor comparisons. What do you think about the 2024 GX? Thanks to Lexus for this opportunity!

Finally a GX that looks the part!
The previous GX was not a good looking vehicle--no matter what you did to it.
This thing is so stupidly handsome and a big step up from the previous GX. Looks like a spiritual successor to the 80 series Land Cruiser (aka the best one ever). That tan color in the press materials or the Nori Green are total winners. As always you knocked this review out of the park.
Thanks man!
I feel like this has got to be one of the most exciting & universally liked/appreciated offerings in recent years. If I were more financially irresponsible, I would absolutely be adding one to the driveway. Great review man!
Life is short spend while u can
Thanks Sawyer!
Well written. There will be a lot more big debt taken on for this model. Wait about a year and they will be everywhere and prices will stabilize.
Im glad the US market is finally understanding how capable thr GX/Prado has always been. Lexus definitely took this into consideration and came out with this more offroad oriented version. Glad they did because the previous gen had great bones but the body was a little bulky without modifications.
My wife's boyfriend already put a deposit down for a GX
Yessss I finally got a wife's boyfriend comment just like a savagegeese video!
Hopefully he’ll let you drive it 🤷🏼♂️
Lol
It looks fantastic
Solid rugged design and with massage seats that not even the LX has unless you sit in the rear . Best part is the pricing unlike GM, Landrover etc charging over $100K which is obscene
If only they sold it in Europe...
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 AFAIK, Lexus has said that this new GX is coming to Europe (& Australia) as well, not just to North America
@@TSERJI wow that would be really cool, but the Prado is already gonna cost like 100k so the GX would cost something like 150k I imagine. I wonder if it will only be available with the 3.4 gas or also the 3.3 diesel.
Generally speaking Eastern Europe gets the better engines. Western Europe gets the Highlander with the 2.5 hybrid only while Eastern Europe can also opt for the 2.4 turbo with 8-speed auto which is a much more rugged powertrain than the hybrid.
The Prado in Western Europe is only available with the 200 hp 2.8 diesel while the East gets it with the 2.4 turbo non-hybrid. Diesels have horrible carbon buildup and they always are morr problematic than gas engines so the 2.4 turbo is the better powertrain. It's makes 38% more power, 14% less torque but the powerband is A LOT wider.
The diesel is only better in Africa where it has no emissions equipment to speak of so is a lot more reliable and there the greater range is vital. However the 250 most likely won't have the 40 gallon tank and only the 21 gallon one so it's gonna be bad as an expeditionary vehicle, thank you Toyota for that.
I didn't think about it, but the picture of the 80 series LC you definitely see how they drew styling cues from onto the new GX.
Absolutely amazing vehicle
That thing looks good.
Nice GX and content! Thanks Matt!!
Stunning!
Man what a beautiful vehicle! I want one for sure! Time to play the lotto lol
Looks really nice, especially in that blue color. This is a radical change from the last GX. Great review Matt!
Thanks!
Looks pretty cool, great review Matt!
Thanks!
Solid review of a great vehicle!
Thanks! 👍
Glad you enjoyed the scenery out here in AZ
This new GX looks awesome! Definitely reminds me of the 96-97 GX styling wise, like you mentioned Matt. :) This will definitely be a future classic.
The GX exists since 2003....

Great video!!
It looks fantastic)))
Looks great
Looking good !
Great review bro
Great review! If I was in the market for a big-ass truck, this would top the list.
Thanks!
Loved your comments on ride quality on the highway between the trims. I think the road version with 20” is the best option for my needs. I’m totally digging the GX550…
Great review Matt!
Thanks!
Awesome review, Matt! Lots of great features and off road capabilities. Definitely something I'd love to have.
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
The hybrid is CONFIRMED to be the same system as the 2024 Land Cruiser, so 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder and an e-motor in the transmission.
Lexus did a great job with the proportions and the lower trims seem reasonably priced all things considered. This would be tempting if I had $75K lying around collecting dust.
New GX IS A HUGE SUCCESS .excellent rival for the discovery defender and g class .
I want one 😫
Oh man I am going to be saving for a while 🤤
Wow 😯 is that a Lexus ?? That’s awesome 👏🏻
Great interview that’s the first time I seen the detail in the rear lights I thought they where just flat lol
71K that's a good deal for all that. My JLU Rubicon was 72K, might trade in a few years🤔
Nice!
Thanks
Thank you for the Super Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Nice review. One of the best interior review and review of 3rd row. It is a mule. It can haul 7 people, tow 9000lbs, and off-road. It certainly trumps the Defender for me.
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Great review! I find it funny that the TTV6 gets almost the same MPG as the V8 one but that's why they're coming out with a hybrid I presume. Very interested to see what fuel economy the hybrid has.
The hybrid will be that 4-cylinder thing, no thanks.
@Samgullett .hybrid version will have good mpg and excellent power performance plus torque .
Great point about the drive train in the land cruiser compared to the GX I agree twin turbo for the same price seems like a better choice
I'd like to know the drag coefficient #, while it looks a little(boxy) blocky, it's probably pretty aerodynamic 🤔
Recommend
I want one but way out of my price range. It’ll never see off road 😂 gas mileage is a huge hurt too tbh. Great review Matt!
Thanks! 👍
To help the algorithm
Thanks!
i was hoping you would give your impression of how the premium plus compared to the overtrail in terms of capability in the off road course
If you're worried about MPG, you don't believe to this GX550...... you need to get a PRIUS......
Look very nice. Wonder how it differs from the new Land Cruiser
I talk about the differences in the competitor comparison segment towards the end.
I want one but it 3 to 4yrs when it’s half the price
When are they gonna make it here
Any option for remote start?
Does the Lexus GX or TX have a softer/smoother ride (on comparable wheels)?
TX
9000lbs of towing and massaging seats are really what gives the GX an edge over the defender for mw
I like this GX… unfortunately due to pricing RUclips is the closet I will get
Where was this video shot?
Tucson, Arizona.
Whats better a fully loaded Land Cruiser at 64k or a bare bone GX at 64k?
Fuel economy is horrendous.
🙂👍
I’m surprised at how loud it seems to be in the cabin. Otherwise this seems like a home run by Toyota/Lexus
If the Landcruiser 250 series comes at $54,000 then where does that leaves the upcoming 4RUNNER????? TOYOTA has so many SUVs right in the U.S. market, it's hard to to differentiate the price to justify a buy......
Good thing they dropped the v8 ask you can save so much on gas
Lexus G-wagon
Just got a brand new 2023 because of the V8,why they let the V8 go…..Just change the 6 spd transmission to a 10 spd and you get a good mpg.
You are better off buying the BMW X7 for another 10-15K. Towing is 7,000 LBs, it is significantly larger on interior, faster, more powerful, smoother, more quiet, more refined, more luxurious.
I highly doubt anyone's cross shopping a midsized body on frame offroad luxury truck with a large luxury crossover.
