This is amazing. My son passed away last July and I am creating a memorial garden. Going to plant heavenly blue morning glories (birth flower) and this will be a perfect way to display them! Thank you for the great tips.
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry for your loss. 💙Your memorial will be beautiful. I don’t have a full update but I did a quick short and you can see how the big wall filled up. This will give you an idea of how dense and beautiful this wall can get filled with morning glory. I cannot share a photo here. ruclips.net/user/shortsjudhVz4-x_E?feature=share
I used to cut grass for a lady that had wisteria growing on a trellis at her back porch. It was very beautiful but a lot of work to maintain. It was really old growth though and she was really proud of it.
YOU ARE A GENIUS! I wanted to do this but didn't like the gray wire color! So now I'm off to home Depot for for copper wire to match the fence ! YES!! 💃 THANK YOU 😊
Amazing! This is 30sec update and you’ll see how full it grew in. ruclips.net/user/shortsjudhVz4-x_E?feature=share I will be doing a 3min video with the full update but it was too beautiful to now show the blooms early in season! Yes the copper you can’t even tell!
Thanks! It’s been working for a few years now even when I did not intentionally plant glories this past year! They re-grew anyway and covered my fence!
Morning Glory are annual flowers, meaning they don't grow back the next season. If you want forever vines, plant some perennials. I wasn't sure this would work at first! You can try clematis, morning glory in pinks, purples and blues, trumpet vines, wisteria etc Moon flowers are unique as they bloom only at night!
This is fantastic!! Thank-you 😊 so I am planning to plant some vines myself from seed for the first time this spring - just bought Grampa Ott morning glory seeds from Target - anyway, will the morning glories grow / twine themselves up the wire after sprouting?
Yes! Watch this 30 second short of my vine wall update. ruclips.net/user/shortsjudhVz4-x_E?feature=share You’ll see at the end of the video the full growth. It covered my entire fence and more!
@@lauracoteDIY thank-you!! I am so inspired, can’t wait til spring :) I did read the comments to the short - I think will use deck screws (I have a ton of these left-over from projects like these) - does the copper frame wire age well outside or should I go with galvanized trellis wire?
Love this video b/c you actually give very good insights about what you used rather than just a video of us just watching someone put everything up. I'm curious - are those picture wires water-proof, i.e. have you had any issues with their endurance? I want to do this with my out-of-control plumbago. Thanks for your video!
Thank you! ruclips.net/user/shortsjudhVz4-x_E?feature=share No issues. Watch this short 30 sec video, half way you’ll see an update on that vine wall I started. I’ve been meaning to make an update video but this is one for now to show you how great it worked! there have been no issues with the wire and my ones from last year are still fine as well!
How thick? Is it hollow? You need an anchor. What about made for outdoor command hooks? Maybe a screw filled with caulking? A hook with 2 holes? There are also fence hangers for vinyl fencing I’ve seen before. Perhaps research those options for ideas!
I have 2 large boulders in the landscape & I'm going to try and grow Morning Glories around them to see if they'll climb the boulders. If they can climb smooth wall, why not? I hope it works.
The smooth surface has wire to climb. Perhaps wrap your boulder in steel wire (would look invisible) and the vines can attached to that on the boulder. Good luck!
These did not grow back as I had annual seeds however they could in a warmer region. I also live in a cold climate and these flowers do not last over winter. But you should look into planting a perennial vine that will grow every year! A chain fence is perfect for vine privacy!
Yes, Morning glory is an annual plant. It will not regrow the following season. Luckily, it grows fast and I like to change colours yearly. There are many perennial vining plants to try :)
Amazing idea! But that wire is most likely not real copper. They just color it any color on the outside but inside it’s just regular cheapo wire. But that’s good because I think plants don’t like touching real copper, I think I heard that somewhere.
I removed in fall as well. I pushed all the dead vines down to the ground sliding down the wire, then cut the wire just above the pile and slid it out of the bundle. Was such an easy and contained process I was surprised! In the spring I can plant fresh with a clean garden!
why would anybody want to plant morning glories....they take over everwhere and are a bear to get rid of...you don't need screws and wire for them to climb, they stick to/connect to anything...i'll bet all the people who followed this video are now trying to get rid of this bindweed on their side of the fence and the neighbors....just sayin'

I always soaked morning glory seeds in water until the outer part cracked before planting.

Beautiful! Thank you for sharing the update. @@lauracoteDIY
Hemp twine works just as well. After the vine dies off it is much easier to clean up.

I bet she was!

This will definitely be my weekend project ❤❤❤
How did it go?
Good idea. I'm going to try that with my morning glories. Thank you

Amazing, so beautiful 🥰 love it!
Thank you! Hope the wall will look just as nice this summer!
Thanks for the idea 😊
Will you try?
Great video totally doing this. Any vines you recommend? Was looking for some color of poss

So glad I found your video! I had already bought twine--do you think that will work?
Yes I think so!! I use twine a lot to support plants.

@@urchinsushi2041 it has aged but still works fine, for me. The small section that is 3yr old wire will remain there for this season too.

Very nice! What gauge copper wire did you use? Was it soft or half-hard copper wire?
How would you do this with a vinyl fence?

Just use a piece of rabbit fencing and form it around the boulders !!😎😎😎🔥💕💜😇😇😇
Dang get it with that drill girl 😂
😂
Do they grow back every year or do you have to buy seeds and do it again?
I like to try this on my chain link fence for privacy.

Thank you. I wish I had the packaging still to check. I’ll have to look next time I’m at Home Depot. I do know it’s very strong!
Remove the dead vines from last year. I usually remove them in the fall. Once a hard frost hits (in the midwest) they're done. Look awful. ☹️
