I absolutely love morning glories. The heavenly blue ones are a favorite. Have you ever tried growing them in hanging baskets? They trail down making a wonderful display. You should try.
Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I grew them once and was delighted with how quickly and beautifully they grew but then I heard that they will take over your garden and shouldn't be planted there. I have my seeds and can't wait to see the beautiful blooms!
Yaaaay! This video was perfect timing because I was just trying to find a fast growing vine to cover up my concrete fence! I’m going to give it a try! Also, how on earth are you putting out so many videos and you still have another job?! You are working so hard!!! It’s not going unnoticed 😉
I grew them for the first time last year!.. I grew them up a old dress metal form,…. blue and pink so that it could be like sleeping beauty’s dress, the morning glory filled the form and make it look like a ball gown,… it was so much fun! I am trying to grow the same again,…
I love morning glories too. This year, along the fence where they were planted last year - 100's of seedlings have come up. I have pulled and hula-hoed out SO many, but they just keep coming up. I find them all over the landscaped areas of our 3 acres. I think the birds plant them...along with sunflower seeds! I have probably 50 volunteers this year!
They are very invasive in Illinois. I lost the war on morning glories. just accepted that they will just be there on the dog pen. 100 square feet of morning glories. It's quite beautiful 💙
Kind of glad to hear this? I have a ton of fence it can grow up that won’t block my sun and I’m trying to snuff out some poison ivy. We’ll see how it goes!
Thank you. This was so informative. I always wondered why Laura on Garden Answer hated her bindweed so much. I though they were morning glories and she just called them something different. Really learned a lot in this segment. PS…love your garden. :)
I am growing morning glories for the second year in Florida. Last year it was not enough sun in the spot I chose, but this year, so far, they are growing quickly up one of my fences.
I just purchased a white flowered morning glory and my goodness I did not know the flower gets that huge. It’s beautiful and I hope it replants itself next year. It’s in my moon garden. Thanks for the information
Morning glory is invasive in the pacific northwest. I have been battling morning glory coming under my fence for 25years. It strangled a beautiful garden on my west side back yard. I still see it coming under my fence today, I no longer have gardens there. Pavers and pots.
I love morning glories. Iv never had mine be invasive. I also save seeds. Also you should try moonvine so you can have the white flowers in the evening.
I love morning glories! Last year I planted the blue ones together with my cucumbers, and clematis. The the blue flowers shined through those little yellow cucumber flowers. So beautiful! My clematis love this combination. I think it got enough shade from the other two.
Ooops planted it my small thin garden bed with petunias but have a better idea for next year! Thank you for all the much needed information; you covered everything.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have never grown morning glories, even though I love them, because I have always been told they are horribly invasive. You have just clarified the difference between morning glories and bind weed. Yes, bind weed is very difficult to irradicate, but now that I know the two plants are not the same, I am planting morning glories next spring. YAY!
You just reduced my anxiety to grow blue morning glories & moonflower 😅. Im trying out for first time but was iffy growing here in NJ zone 7a. 1 Question - if the vines grow too much, can I cut them back during the season without killing them? I have 3 panel fences on my porch- 6’ high/4’ wide each, how many morning glories can I plant 🪴 on that?(sorry that was 2questions 😁) I’ll have them in pots.
Morning Glory here in So Cal the same. They’re so pretty! Maybe pot those volunteer seedlings for your community nursery? Even if you offer them free. 👏 Bind Weed: Captain Jack’s Dead Weed Brew, highest concentration works well, (Not in flower/veg gardens though).
I loved your excitement in your voice over this simple plant! I have grown some in the past. But has been a long time. I have a big slope that i want to fill in with ground covers so i dont have to mow it. I was wondering about morning glory. I know its an annual. But i was wondering about using it until the perrinials that i plant, fill in. What are your thoughts about that? And also, have you ever tried moonflower? They are huge! But they open at night. And are white. So they like glow in the moonlight. They remind me so much or morning glory. I use to plant them together. Thanks
I do grow 3 kinds morning glories, sweet potato, water spinach, which we can cook with), and a cypress vine(that is covered in buds with I think bubblegum pink flowers). All 3 are very vigorous because I live in a tropical climate, winter here is either very rainy or very dry with no snow at all, and it's very HOT. I do deal with Littlebell(Ipomoea Triloba), which is a weedy morning glory. Pretty purple flowers, but it's pretty annoying because I had to pull it on a neighboring property, and at least it came out like a carpet when I pulled it out.
Hey Robbie, I have seeds for the light blue variety that you planted and also the Moonglow. I may have missed my zone's planting window. I don't think I have anything to let them grow on - the fence belongs to my neighbor, but we don't have a sharing relationship. I am considering planting it under a schefflera tree just to experiment. I have nothing to lose by trying it and beautiful vines to enjoy if it works. Happy gardening.
This is my first year growing morning glories! I got a packet of mixed, now I want to save some of the midnight purple seeds. Although the pink, white, and violet are pretty, too. They are growing up a grape vine that some early tenant here planted and it is September and they are coming out the top of the vine, they are BURSTING out of the top and look fabulous. I have a lot seeds left, though one neighbor wants to grow some of her own next spring. My question: which are the largest breed of morning glory flower? Of any color? Very informative video, thank you!
I like vine morning glories no seeds just the vine keeps spreading, problem with seed morning glories when they go dormant in fall winter the vines look like straw its disaster to pull the dried out vines on chainlink fencing thats why i use vine morning glories no seeds & vine never dries out.
Thanks for this video on morning glories. I think they are lovely and so easy since they reseed. In our area people won't grow them bc they think they will act like bind weed. .
Morning Glory is definitely invasive in Southern California! I have been battling with this for years because my neighbor planted it years ago and it still pops up! Our nurseries even have warning printed on the labels . Not a plant for me!
I’m in Southern California too & I now have a hillside full of morning glory because the previous owner planted some. I have kind of given up trying to control it but I need to keep after it as it has smothered everything!
Thank you for this great explanation. Unfortunately morning glory is prohibited in AZ due to an old law to protect the cotton crops in the state. Now I wonder, if they confused bindweed with morning glory and restricted their entire genus? I long to grow them.
Have you ever tried Moonflower vine, large white flowers on beautiful green vine. Flowers only open at nite, I mixed with blue morning glory Amit was beautiful. I’m in Ripon Ca 9b ♥️ love your site and Janie’s site♥️👍
I would challenge everyone saying that they can’t get rid of it to go to your county extension office and see if you or have actual bindweed which grows by rhizomes.
Oh my hat I had one in my garden (previous owner had loads) almost 8 months later I still have tiny ones popping up & im pulling - they pop up in my grass. Not invasive here but I don’t care for them 🙈
Those are very invasive. I had a client who found those vines in the walls of their house. I planted some and when I learned about that, I pulled them out and put them in a pot.
I inherited a trumpet vine, cultivated it over ten years until it became an arbor. I was advised to remove it when it was still small. It was stunning and the hummingbirds were gorgeous every year. Then it outgrew the space so I had to remove it. That was six years ago. I dug deep so many times (!), every year, thinking if I removed the roots it would eventually go away. It’s spring and the babies are still coming up. Ugh.
Trellis' to walk through are amazing, until theres a black snake hiding in it and takes a bite at the top of your head 😅 (been there, not fun, 1/10 experience lol)
This dude reminds me of a gay Bradley Cooper lol. I’m not hating at all and I love what he’s talking about I just thought that was a funny thing I thought of lol.
Unfortunately, those seeds that you're trying to plant are as invasive as the type of morning glory you talked about. As you mentioned, morning glories seed aggressively. Birds, rats, cats, etc spreads the seeds out of people's backyards, unfornately, no one pulls them "easily" in nature where they thrive and are chocking out natives that are already endangered. Please think twice about planting this and PLEASE don't encourage more people to do the same.
I have a question. I have this beautiful white morning glory just starting to bloom and I think it's confused. It starts opening at dusk and by midnight it's fully opened and gorgeous. When I wake up in the morning, it's deflated and drooping. I've been doing a deep purple morning glory for decades and never seen a plant bloom at midnight. It will never get any bee action this way. Why is this happening?
Hi, what you have is a moon flower 💚 still a morning glory but it only blooms at night. It’s pollinated by night flying moths because the moonlight reflects off the blooms and attracts them!
@@visitourgarden thank you!! I have been so confused. Kinda of a bummer 😔 I love showing off my garden and there aren't too many people up around midnight to enjoy them. Good to know they will get some action 🤗 and I really do appreciate ur response!! And they are magnificent in full bloom!!
I absolutely love morning glories. The heavenly blue ones are a favorite. Have you ever tried growing them in hanging baskets? They trail down making a wonderful display. You should try.
What kind of hanging baskets do you use for your morning glories?
Thank you for explaining the difference in bindweed and morning glories!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I grew them once and was delighted with how quickly and beautifully they grew but then I heard that they will take over your garden and shouldn't be planted there. I have my seeds and can't wait to see the beautiful blooms!
Heavenly blues have to be my favorite flower

I can imagine how beautiful that was!
What a brilliant idea, I bet it looked stunning 😃
That's so creative! I'm definitely gonna try that!
I love morning glories too. This year, along the fence where they were planted last year - 100's of seedlings have come up. I have pulled and hula-hoed out SO many, but they just keep coming up. I love morning glory! I can grow them all over my yard! Thanks for sharing
I planted two varieties this morning. Some around a large stump and others throughout our property and the neighborhood. Beautification project.
❤
Thank you. This was so informative. I always wondered why Laura on Garden Answer hated her bindweed so much. I though they were morning glories and she just called them something different. Really learned a lot in this segment. PS…love your garden. :)

I love morning glories. They're just enthusiastic and need guidance and direction 😅 but they're so lovely

Never heard of moonvine, but that's would make a cool combo

I happen to love invasive flowers ! I don’t mind maintaining it.
I love the blue morning glories. A favorite for sure.❤
Right now there are hundreds of morning glory on my flower bed and its not that easy to pull 😅

I love planting these I love the flowers!!!
Another great and informative video. Thanks Robbie.😊
Thank you for this video, very informative. I have some seeds and will find a perfect spot for them.
Thank you 😊 I needed this information 🫶🫰
Great video, Robbie, thanks!!
I have property with tall white pines. I’d like to plant on 2 pines and grow up the trunks 30’.

They work good with sun flowers

Yes 😢 I didn’t know this and now I can’t get rid of it
I planted morning glory vine 2 months ago didnt get flowers yet .
Vine is 8ft high very healthy.

@@darbi1868Are you dealing with I. Indica or I. purpurea?
Very informative. Thanks.
Keep up that positivity and EDUCATION WITH FACTS MY BROTHER 🔥🔥🔥💜💞💞💫💫💕😇🦋🦋🦋😎🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️🙏🏼🤣
Should I pinch the tip of the morning glory just like other plants
Thank you for this great explanation. Unfortunately morning glory is prohibited in AZ due to an old law to protect the cotton crops in the state. Now I wonder, if they confused bindweed with morning glory and restricted their entire genus? I long to grow them.
...prohibited in Arizona, you say..? 🤔...due to an OLD LAW..? 😬 well I'm betting that some Glories do grow there...
How long does it take for morning glories to bloom?
Try moon flowers they are similar and big but night bloom
Hi i'm a new subscriber i enjoyed ur video right know i'm growing one . super excited.
Have you ever tried Moonflower vine, large white flowers on beautiful green vine. Flowers only open at nite, I mixed with blue morning glory Amit was beautiful. I’m in Ripon Ca 9b ♥️ love your site and Janie’s site♥️👍
Does morning glory have a deep root system. Do you think I might be able to grow it over my septic field
OMG the artichokes are amazing, what did you feed them 🌻🧡
Excellent ! Do you have a video of the chocolate morning glories bloomed?
Morning Glories! Wow! I live in Arkansas, they grow wild here. Not as pretty as yours though. Thank you!
I would challenge everyone saying that they can’t get rid of it to go to your county extension office and see if you or have actual bindweed which grows by rhizomes.
What is the source of the chocolate seeds? Thanks!
Oh my hat I had one in my garden (previous owner had loads) almost 8 months later I still have tiny ones popping up & im pulling - they pop up in my grass. Not invasive here but I don’t care for them 🙈
This ia my first year growing morning glories. I have a pure with yellow white center an a pink 1
Thank you
Bind weed is a noxious perennial, I think morning glories are considered an annual. 🌷💚🙃
Yes…I always grow morning glories ❤
I have a huge problem with trumpet vine. I wanted to feed the hummingbirds my MISTAKE! 🌷💚🙃
Those are very invasive. I had a client who found those vines in the walls of their house. I planted some and when I learned about that, I pulled them out and put them in a pot.

Omg i hate bindweed uggg it gets in my garden here in Oroville.
Hai from Vancouver
Trellis' to walk through are amazing, until theres a black snake hiding in it and takes a bite at the top of your head 😅 (been there, not fun, 1/10 experience lol)
Are morning glories toxic for dogs?
The seeds are for animals and humans, as well as moonflowers. If you want something safer around your pups try nasturtium.
What is that quacking? Cackling in the background? A squirrel? A duck?
Yes there invasive as hell.....one package and 2 years later, there all over everything like flies on an outhouse
Do you sell morning glories?
Wow ,
Ah....I learned something new today! Thank you again!
This dude reminds me of a gay Bradley Cooper lol. I’m not hating at all and I love what he’s talking about I just thought that was a funny thing I thought of lol.
👍
I think it matters where you live for the invasion of this plant.
Unfortunately, those seeds that you're trying to plant are as invasive as the type of morning glory you talked about. As you mentioned, morning glories seed aggressively. No. You are absolutely incorrect
You're a real cutie dude!
Many thanks for this great lesson on Morning Glories! They are a fond memory from my childhood. They always make me smile! Such a fun video. 👌🪴🥰
