This was an underrated movie. People were expecting too much from it, just like The Predator. Both are simply good action movies, and didn't need an inflated plot or crazy character development.
What I liked about this movie and my military buddies love it. Due to the fact that this movie. Tries to represent soldiers how they would be in real life. As you notice. The soldiers in this movie. Don’t just spray and pray. But use semi to firing short bursts. In the service we are trained to do that as well. Two these aliens are just awesome. Unlike some movies. You just shot them. Their dead. No they had to figure a weakness. And ways to eliminate their targets.

In the real world, the Marines would not risk sending the only unit with success against the Aliens back into combat and risk losing their experience. Nance would probably be given a battle field promotion to LT or even Captain to train other units. All the other Marines would probably be promoted and used to train others.
I can see them being split into other squads deploying for the first time but I doubt they would be taken out of the field and doing any training during an alien invasion.

If this went on long and they can afford the manpower then they probably would use that knowledge. I think this is the first alien invasion movie I've ever seen where the aliens also used guns. In pretty much every other alien invasionmovie it's rayguns / lasers and stuff like that.
There were some theory about how these alien are basically civilian running away from whatever was attacking them that why they aren't advanced as other film alien invasion
@@timafiggy My point is the Air Force does not specialize in small unit infantry tactics regardless of their job designation and their rank, dingus. Honorable exceptions for USAF special forces like PJs and JTACs, but she ain't one of them.
These silly movies where Aliens with the technology to travel to other worlds have, pretty much, the same military capabilities as civilizations that are centuries away from possibly traveling to distant worlds.
Traveling light years away doesn't need technology much more sophisticated than what we have now. Ofcourse, if wait calculations are to be considered, its better to tech up before traveling. But the scenario is not entirely implausible. Another factor is that an advanced alien species traveling across hundreds of light years might forget its original mission and lose quite a bit of its technology over centuries of travel with a small fleet. You should expand your horizons a bit.

Don't worry, in the end the aliens fled Los Angeles after seeing all the homeless encampments and heroin needles all over the area. So they were the heroes, not these soldiers.
If that happened now the president would wait until the aliens had taken over Los Angeles completely and then he would order an evacuation of the city.
If it had been TFG he would have been saying how he'd exchanged love letters with the alien overlord and how he was a great guy because he didn't like democracy either. MTG would have been saying the aliens must be Jewish because they have space lasers and Gaetz would have been asking if they had any pre-adolescent girls he could get to spend some time with.

Only reason why they action scenes are shot like this is because they want to show how chaotic it is. and how realistic they want to make it. This isn't your typical military movie where the marines are just shooting so perfectly and killing them all, rather it's showing it REALLY would be and they're shooting and missing and doing the best they can. and half the time they are getting fucked up because that's how it actually would be. Them missing, a lot, getting fucked up, a lot, but pulling through at the end because they adapt and overcome. If you watched the movie, you would see how and see the aliens perfectly and how they adapted to the aliens and started to pull through.

I love how everyone keeps saying great movie.. I never saw it BUT.. every time I watch it I never see the Human Soldiers take any casualties.. like at all. Your telling me if a Militarized Alien Army landed and sent in full conventional forces with high tech gear a single squad of Army Infantry are gonna hold them off without having people get pulverized.. yeah yeah sure.
I'd always like to think that one day, a long time from now, once we are space-faring and part of a galactic community, aliens will react in awe (perhaps horror) as they exclaim, "They put knives on their guns? Are they insane? ARE THEY INSANE?" as they watch a human infantryman bayonet the shit out of some threat to galactic peace.

This is literally my favorite movie my wife got so sick of it I watched this movie virtually everyday so intense and realistic in its own way

Watch the battle on the bridge. The marines lose half their number, and the aliens keep pushing them back.
Basically the entire movie has the marines retreating. Try actually watching something before complaining about it.
