Was wondering if the 480p-ish streaming was because of (Widevine?) DRM issues? I know that if Android tablets/phones don't have the right level of DRM, they automatically downgrade the quality to SD for streaming services. With this being an engineering sample, it's quite possible the DRM isn't available yet and a later firmware update could enable it.
Kinda a bad look when your review unit is an engineering sample with a ton of compromises. "oh this isn't calibrated", "flagship HDMI 2.1 feature doesn't work", "blooming galore", "DRM is broken". Vizio should not have sent such a half-baked product out for review, especially one they are asking $2K for. If you want HDR, get an OLED. If you need something for a bright room, there are cheaper options. If you need something for next-gen consoles, wait until those consoles are actually released and compatibility is proven. This thing tries to be everything poorly.

I bought the Vizio P series Quantum 2021 a couple days ago and it seems like they've fixed these issues with a firmware update. However you must put the "Active Array" setting on low to reduce the blooming effect. Otherwise the TV is amazing for gaming. The input lag is super low with Vizio claiming less than 10ms for 60hz and less than 4ms for 120hz and I can tell while using it. Highly recommend this tv series for gaming with a PC.
I want a CornHub button! (Plz make a remote that has stream deck like functionality, where I can make the buttons whatever I want them to be. Although it will probably cost as much as the TV itself.)

Disney didn't allow any of their content to be available in 4k on Netflix to get you to switch to Disney+. Linus and Jake don't know what they're talking about when they say they were getting 10 to 100x the 3mbps bitrate. Netflix maxes out at 15mbps for 4k content, which is pathetic compared to uhd blu rays that can exceed 100mbps. Linus is the same guy that made an entire HDR monitor comparison using a video player that doesn't support HDR. He has no idea what he's talking about.

i have been a fan of Vizio TVs for about 12-13 years when I bought my first ones. I wish I had bought stock in them as I still really like the brand and have never been disappointed with their products. just purchased another 55" V series the other day and love it. my ONLY complaint is that I HATE having legs at the corners and LOVE having a center stand which is why I put one on mine.
I will say I'm glad to see that Vizio didn't make the same mistake as all the other manufacturers seem to, they had the earc port not be one of the 4k 120 ports......so you actually have 2 usable 2.1 ports on this TV while simultaneously using the earc.
Warm Soft Kitty I have a 70 inch and play Gameboy Advance games with my GameCube disc, it actually doesn’t look too bad. But you can buy those composite to HDMI, or an EON 64 for upscaling.

This tv is amazing. I’ve had the 65pqx-H1 ( bought at Costco) for about a month now. Set up right next to my 55 Sony A1E OLED. I gotta say.......the blacks are identical to OLED blacks 90% of the time. Tbh the only time I see blooming is in menus. Colors POP! Much more vibrant than my Sony A1E. Absolutely amazing tv. HDR content is stunning. “Panel Lottery” or whatever but this tv is the amazing. OLED will eventually make its way into the bedroom but it’s still side by side in the living room because I’m waiting to find something that differentiates them. I’m telling you I haven’t found that something yet.
The biggest problems with Vizios are: -The OS is bad, banner ads, limited apps, and all the advertising for casting is not worth it. RUclips casting results in the wrong aspect ratio half the time, and airplay is clunky. -The backlight consistency is not great, I have haloing from the corner of one side and I have a HDR10 model. The previous one I had had splotchy backlight and a bad speaker which resulted in a warranty claim. The HDR quality is great but and the colors are great but the OS and backlight prevent me from recommending the vizio to friends and family.
My Q8FN has uneven backlights, and that will go down in history as the best year ever for Samsung LCD. It's never visible except in black or near black images so I really can't be bothered.
But would you recommend them for someone upgrading from the £400 Amazon prime day Sony Bravia? I already have a 2019 Nvidia Shield so that eliminates casting and OS issues.
@@NJLunas if you are upgrading for the 4k and hdr then does the shield support that? The main source of hdr content is Netflix so I'm willing to live with the ui for it. From my experience, TCL tv's are pretty close in hdr abilities. Maybe if you buy a Vizio, get an extended warranty.
That's what I did few years back. From 12 year old 37" Panasonic Plasma to now 3 year old 55" LG OLED. There was no LCD that I liked or looked as good as a Plasma TV.
@bobwatters Honestly, unless you live in a south-facing fully white-painted room with no blinds and you only use the TV during the day, OLED's limited brightness issues are overblown (pun intended). Even during the day, with the blinds of my window slanted open I have no problem viewing my B9 55". And if your room is really dark at night, you'll still be blinded by white room scenes in movies (Interstellar actually made my eyes water at times). The burn-in has also been tested quite thoroughly, and a lot of improvements have been made that make it much less common and not really worth worrying as much. The extremely low input latency, the 120hz 4K, the perfect blacks, and the fantastic HDR support more than make it all worth it.
I was able to acquire the first gen for only about $1500 via a labor day sale and it's a rock solid panel. The brightness in a dark room does blow my eyes out with the BL at 60 and Gamma at 2.0. . . . I have a direct wired and it only takes about 20 seconds if that, to stream 4k HDR. It only does not if my net is fuggered up. PC looks insane at 1440p 120hz HDR and looks way better (for HDR only) than my 1440p LG 144 hz monitor.
P Series Quantum's have been AWESOME tv's for several years now. I have the 2019 P Series Quantum 75" and absolutely love it. and only paid $1299 on sale at Best Buy. Replaced remote with a Logitech Harmony Elite and no worries. Also... the built in Chromecast is awesome and I haven't had any issues with wired OR wifi speeds, must be Canadian interwebs. No need for an external device.
Would be believable if u didn't call Chromecast awesome. Having a fast ISP doesn't make the hardware better. vizio tvs like many others cheaped out on internet related hardware with 100mbps max ports but they hardly get 20mbps regardless of internet capability, not fast enuff to stream 4k. Chromecast is the worst stream solution on a TV. Maybe u never used any stream devices. Everything else I own is 100x better, cube, xboxx,Roku, even 1080p on PS4. U Can't add apps on Vizio yet can on regular Chromecast devices and no store. Hulu app crashes and Disney doesn't work at all since added via rare update. Cast from phone disconnects every 20min and smartcast app is broken. Streams get buffer wheel 30sec to a few min @ start or at low res, not 4k despite tv saying so. U can see difference between Vizio app picture and real stream devices. Most who use Vizio tvs use other things to stream on cuz pic via HDMI in looks good from price with low lag.

Fun Fact: To those who are wondering what causes the comet, it’s due to the response time of the tv being on the slower side. OLED’s don’t have this issue since they’re self emitting, and high refresh rate monitors minimize so much where it is incredibly hard to perceive.
I'd imagine the Netflix thing was due to a certification problem. As it's pre production it probably hasn't been certified by Netflix and thus won't run at higher resolution / bitrates
I have an 85" PQX and I have to say that I am not having any of these issues. My black levels are inky black, the best that I have ever seen on an LED.
Yo Linus, just gonna state an idea. When you review a CPU, can you do benchmarks with DAWs such as FL Studio, Cubase, Ableton Live etc? You can benchmark big project file(s) with CPU intensive VSTs and plugins, measuring the export time of each DAW. It could be very useful for music producers finding the right CPU.
My mom got the d series for my grandma and she doesn’t notice any of the bad stuff about it but I can barely look at the tv screen. Luckily my dad was noticing it to and we got her a roku stick and things are now much better.
Ill explain TV calibration to Linus and friends. You have to calibrate the TV for the room it is going to be in. Factories try to mimic these environments for default settings, but calibration specifically is tuning the TV for the room it is going to exist in. Therefor, nothing is "calibrated" out of the box.

I have 2 just over a month old Vizio TV s. Both of them have issues almost daily. Especially freezing on the Vizio logo screen. Have to fully unplug it from the wall to turn it off. Meanwhile mine and my cousin's 15 year old Samsung LCD TVs still work/look the same as the day we bought them. Thanks for the tip on this TV, but I'll probably stick with a brand that has proven itself to me personally.
Damn I had the same blooming problems with the M7 from last year, the brightness settings make a huge impact on that but this is the top tier model, that should not be there. The Hisense H9G performs much better.
I bought the 2019 version of this same TV (65in) and honestly it wasn't great. Colors were way off and lots of blooming. Playing games it seemed to suffer from lots if input lag. It does get very bright however. I returned it for an LG B9 and the difference is huge. OLED is king.
An LG OLED C9 has 780 nits. 800 is not really "leaving it in the dust." OLED can't produce the same brightness as LCD but in this case they're very close. Also note for viewers that black levels and contrast are more important for quality which OLEDs are much better at but also to cost more.
no it only reaches that brightness on mainly dark scenes. If you have a lot of bright elements, oled cannot output at 780 nits. It goes less than half than that.

Warm Soft Kitty I have a 70 inch and play Gameboy Advance games with my GameCube disc, it actually doesn’t look too bad. But you can buy those composite to HDMI, or an EON 64 for upscaling.

This is the same guy who said the tv has better colors than an OLED when it's obvious during their testing that it had weird brown colors when things were supposed to be black and youtube app looks like shit from the poorly executed local dimming. He might be the worst co-host because he just helps give bad advice. The entire video is proof that LTT is a really awful channel to use for real reviews.

This tv is amazing. I’ve had the 65pqx-H1 ( bought at Costco) for about a month now. Set up right next to my 55 Sony A1E OLED. I gotta say.......the blacks are identical to OLED blacks 90% of the time. Tbh the only time I see blooming is in menus. Colors POP! Much more vibrant than my Sony A1E. Absolutely amazing tv. HDR content is stunning. “Panel Lottery” or whatever but this tv is the amazing. OLED will eventually make its way into the bedroom but it’s still side by side in the living room because I’m waiting to find something that differentiates them. I’m telling you I haven’t found that something yet.
I've had Honey installed for almost a year now and so far it's saved me exactly £0. Nothing. It has literally never found me a working code.
It's worked for me on Aliexpress and GameStop but I never find codes on Amazon, Target, and Walmart.
I can't remember the last time any coupon code worked on Amazon..

The biggest problems with Vizios are:
-The OS is bad, banner ads, limited apps, and all the advertising for casting is not worth it. RUclips casting results in the wrong aspect ratio half the time, and airplay is clunky.
-The backlight consistency is not great, I have haloing from the corner of one side and I have a HDR10 model. The previous one I had had splotchy backlight and a bad speaker which resulted in a warranty claim.
The HDR quality is great but and the colors are great but the OS and backlight prevent me from recommending the vizio to friends and family.
My Q8FN has uneven backlights, and that will go down in history as the best year ever for Samsung LCD.
It's never visible except in black or near black images so I really can't be bothered.
But would you recommend them for someone upgrading from the £400 Amazon prime day Sony Bravia? I already have a 2019 Nvidia Shield so that eliminates casting and OS issues.

@@NJLunas if you are upgrading for the 4k and hdr then does the shield support that? The main source of hdr content is Netflix so I'm willing to live with the ui for it. From my experience, TCL tv's are pretty close in hdr abilities. Maybe if you buy a Vizio, get an extended warranty.

That's what I did few years back. From 12 year old 37" Panasonic Plasma to now 3 year old 55" LG OLED.
There was no LCD that I liked or looked as good as a Plasma TV.
@bobwatters Honestly, unless you live in a south-facing fully white-painted room with no blinds and you only use the TV during the day, OLED's limited brightness issues are overblown (pun intended).
Even during the day, with the blinds of my window slanted open I have no problem viewing my B9 55". And if your room is really dark at night, you'll still be blinded by white room scenes in movies (Interstellar actually made my eyes water at times). The burn-in has also been tested quite thoroughly, and a lot of improvements have been made that make it much less common and not really worth worrying as much. The extremely low input latency, the 120hz 4K, the perfect blacks, and the fantastic HDR support more than make it all worth it.
For less you can go for Vizio's OLED next month. I talk about it in my recent video

I was able to acquire the first gen for only about $1500 via a labor day sale and it's a rock solid panel. The brightness in a dark room does blow my eyes out with the BL at 60 and Gamma at 2.0. . . . I have a direct wired and it only takes about 20 seconds if that, to stream 4k HDR. It only does not if my net is fuggered up. PC looks insane at 1440p 120hz HDR and looks way better (for HDR only) than my 1440p LG 144 hz monitor.
P Series Quantum's have been AWESOME tv's for several years now. I have the 2019 P Series Quantum 75" and absolutely love it. and only paid $1299 on sale at Best Buy. Replaced remote with a Logitech Harmony Elite and no worries. Also... the built in Chromecast is awesome and I haven't had any issues with wired OR wifi speeds, must be Canadian interwebs. No need for an external device.
Would be believable if u didn't call Chromecast awesome. Having a fast ISP doesn't make the hardware better. vizio tvs like many others cheaped out on internet related hardware with 100mbps max ports but they hardly get 20mbps regardless of internet capability, not fast enuff to stream 4k. Chromecast is the worst stream solution on a TV. Maybe u never used any stream devices. Everything else I own is 100x better, cube, xboxx,Roku, even 1080p on PS4. U Can't add apps on Vizio yet can on regular Chromecast devices and no store. Hulu app crashes and Disney doesn't work at all since added via rare update. Cast from phone disconnects every 20min and smartcast app is broken. Streams get buffer wheel 30sec to a few min @ start or at low res, not 4k despite tv saying so. U can see difference between Vizio app picture and real stream devices. Most who use Vizio tvs use other things to stream on cuz pic via HDMI in looks good from price with low lag.

Fun Fact: To those who are wondering what causes the comet, it’s due to the response time of the tv being on the slower side. OLED’s don’t have this issue since they’re self emitting, and high refresh rate monitors minimize so much where it is incredibly hard to perceive.

I'd imagine the Netflix thing was due to a certification problem. As it's pre production it probably hasn't been certified by Netflix and thus won't run at higher resolution / bitrates
I have an 85" PQX and I have to say that I am not having any of these issues. My black levels are inky black, the best that I have ever seen on an LED.

Yo Linus, just gonna state an idea. When you review a CPU, can you do benchmarks with DAWs such as FL Studio, Cubase, Ableton Live etc? You can benchmark big project file(s) with CPU intensive VSTs and plugins, measuring the export time of each DAW. It could be very useful for music producers finding the right CPU.
My mom got the d series for my grandma and she doesn’t notice any of the bad stuff about it but I can barely look at the tv screen. Luckily my dad was noticing it to and we got her a roku stick and things are now much better.

Ill explain TV calibration to Linus and friends. You have to calibrate the TV for the room it is going to be in. Factories try to mimic these environments for default settings, but calibration specifically is tuning the TV for the room it is going to exist in. Therefor, nothing is "calibrated" out of the box.

Back in 2015 my dad spent $2800 on a 75 inch 4K tv but it’s also when the tech was still on higher end TVs
I have 2 just over a month old Vizio TV s. Both of them have issues almost daily. Especially freezing on the Vizio logo screen. Have to fully unplug it from the wall to turn it off. Meanwhile mine and my cousin's 15 year old Samsung LCD TVs still work/look the same as the day we bought them. Thanks for the tip on this TV, but I'll probably stick with a brand that has proven itself to me personally.

Damn I had the same blooming problems with the M7 from last year, the brightness settings make a huge impact on that but this is the top tier model, that should not be there. The Hisense H9G performs much better.
I bought the 2019 version of this same TV (65in) and honestly it wasn't great. Colors were way off and lots of blooming. Playing games it seemed to suffer from lots if input lag. It does get very bright however. I returned it for an LG B9 and the difference is huge. OLED is king.

An LG OLED C9 has 780 nits. 800 is not really "leaving it in the dust."
OLED can't produce the same brightness as LCD but in this case they're very close.
Also note for viewers that black levels and contrast are more important for quality which OLEDs are much better at but also to cost more.
no it only reaches that brightness on mainly dark scenes. If you have a lot of bright elements, oled cannot output at 780 nits. It goes less than half than that.
