Healing is literally what every roman catholics ask right before receiving the Eucharist: "I am not worthy to receive you but only say the word and I shall be healed". I probably don't have the exact wording down but you get the idea.
Mercy begets forgiveness which in turn allows healing.

What does it matter if its not what they actually carry out. I was catholic and after confession they just say oh you'll be fine do 3 our fathers or say the rosary once and forget about it. It can be horrible and disgusting sins and its always the same "penance".
Its completely impersonal no one is called to actually repent everyone just goes on doing the same sins and never reforms their heart. They deny the very mechanism that makes Redemption possible which is through the energies of God purifying and awakening your noetic spiritual light for you to become one with God through theosis like saint Gregory of palamas and many other fathers and saints taught. They teach that The holy spirit leaves those who commit mortal sins and very minor things can be mortal sins. Yet they themselves have not atoned for the sins they have done throughout history such as the killing of orthodox saints and the abusing of children.

Then maybe you can help me with this.
Colossians 2:8 see to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ
Galatians 1:8 though we, or an angel from heaven, preach unto you a gospel different than the gospel we have preached unto you, let him be accursed
2 Peter 3:2 that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the Holy prophets and the commandments of the Lord and Savior spoken by your Apostles
Time and again we are told to hold to only that which the Apostles taught us. In the New Testament Matthew is the only Apostle to say Mary's name. He also told us Joseph was the hero of the virgin story. That after the angel spoke to Mary once all other communication went thru Joseph.
In Matthew 12 when Jesus was told His mother was outside He pointed to the believers in front of Him and said, "Here is My mother ", He added that anyone who does the will of God is His mother. For Jesus, His family were those in His blood and not in earthly blood. It was either leave Mary with John or His brothers who didn't believe in Him, John 7:5
John, after becoming the caretaker of Mary never saw anything special about her to write about, he never mentioned her name
Paul, wrote almost half of the New Testament and never mentioned her name
Peter, ignored her existence in his writings. He never said she was the mother of God, the new ark, the queen of heaven. He never sought her or prayed to her. He never said she was sinless or a co-redeemer with Jesus. He completely ignored her, not a single Hail Mary.
After the period of Jesus's birth Mary's name is all but erased from scripture. Only mentioned by name three times, Matthew 13, Mark 6, Acts 1.. the three times we are told she had other children.
From the creation of the first Christian Church in Acts thru Revelation her name is not mentioned. The pillars, Peter, James, John, and i will add Paul.. never say her name.
What tradition did these men give us that led to the Catholic Church making her more?

    • @Vigula

You're right - one of the mantra's of Catholicism is 'become a saint, what else is there?'. so orthodoxy is not a completely different paradigm. This gentleman isn't very well informed and is perhaps confusing Protestantism with Catholicism.

    • @PatrickSteil
      @PatrickSteil Месяц назад

@@glennherron9499 Thank you for bringing up these important scripture passages and questions. Let’s address your concerns step by step.
Colossians 2:8 warns against being taken captive by human traditions and philosophies that contradict Christ’s teachings. Considering all forms of truth does not mean being captive by them. The Church sees God’s Word and Revelation in all of Creation, recognizing God as the Author of all truth. As long as human philosophy helps us arrive at the truth and does not contradict Scripture, it can be profitable. The same holds true for psychology, biology, and other fields of study. The Church has a rich history of pursuing these disciplines to better understand the totality of God’s Revelation.
Galatians 1:8 emphasizes the importance of adhering to the true Gospel. The Catholic Church’s doctrines are based on the Gospel as preached by the Apostles and safeguarded by the Church throughout history. Perhaps you can provide more detail on where you see a problem in Catholic teaching here.
2 Peter 3:2 highlights the importance of remembering the words of the prophets and apostles. Yes, we agree! The Church employs Sacred Tradition-the oral passing down of interpretations from previous generations-as a way to ensure we honor the words and teachings of the apostles. This is the primary task of the priests and bishops: to hold fast to the doctrines taught by the Apostles and preserved in the deposit of faith. It is not just the words of the Bible that are important but understanding the original author’s intent. There are many extra-biblical texts, written by those trained by the apostles, that give us a better idea of what the original apostles taught.
Regarding Mary, while it’s true that the New Testament does not extensively document her role, the Church’s understanding of her significance has developed through reflection on Scripture and Tradition. Let’s consider the following points:
      1. Role of Mary in Scripture: Mary’s role is highlighted in key moments, such as the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38) and the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-12), where Jesus performed His first miracle at her request. These instances indicate her unique relationship with Jesus and her faith.
      2. John and Mary: At the crucifixion, Jesus entrusted Mary to John (John 19:26-27), symbolizing her role as the mother of all believers. This act underscores her importance within the Christian community.
      3. Church Fathers and Tradition: Early Church Fathers, such as St. Irenaeus and St. Augustine, reflected on Mary’s role as the New Eve and her perpetual virginity. These reflections, rooted in Scripture, contributed to the development of Marian doctrines.
      4. Title of “Mother of God”: The Council of Ephesus in 431 AD affirmed Mary as Theotokos, or “God-bearer,” emphasizing that Jesus is both fully God and fully man. This title protects the doctrine of the Incarnation.
      5. Revelation and Mary’s Queenship: In Revelation 12, the woman clothed with the sun is often interpreted as a symbol of Mary and the Church. This imagery supports her role as Queen of Heaven, a title reflecting her exalted status due to her unique cooperation in God’s plan of salvation.
Mary is deemed one of the greatest saints because she said “yes” to God’s plan. Catholics never worship her as if she were God, but she, among many strong saints throughout the ages, serves as an inspiration for us all.
While the New Testament may not extensively document Mary’s role, the Catholic Church’s teachings on her are grounded in a holistic interpretation of Scripture, Tradition, and the continuous guidance of the Holy Spirit. These teachings aim to honor her unique role in salvation history without detracting from the centrality of Christ.
If you have more, let's try to tackle one thing at a time :)

Not to oversimplify, but in generally speaking, Catholicism teaches that there is an extrinsic reparation to be paid as a price for sin, as opposed to an internal transformation which needs to take place. This is why-according to Catholic theology-the Pope can grant a plenary indulgence, completely freeing one from the effects of past sins. Although Orthodoxy and Catholicism both inherit a common tradition of practicing penance as a means of combating the effects of sin, this change in understanding within Catholicism has led to the relaxed attitude that most Catholic priests and laity have towards penance today.

I think the main difference is that the Orthodox church seeks for humans to strive to be Christ-like and sin is considered an illness. Like you step into a hospital, you see the sick, but you don't judge them. You try to help them. That is the Orthodox perspective. From my experience in the Catholic church, the goal to be Christ-like is not really mentioned. Instead it is more transactional, such as mitigating your sin to be able to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, like you are paying a toll. And the sin has to legalistically be removed through the intercessor of the priest in Confession. Confession is also a reality for the Orthodox but it is seen as you are an ill person coming to God to be healed, so that your goal to be Christlike can be your main path in life.

I recall one time a priest, who was obviously a Gay man. Not saying he wasn’t bearing his Cross, and not abstaining. He told a story where he went to the local coffee shop, a stand up place. He told that as he was enjoying his coffee the men were ogling a scantily dressed woman. He then went on to chastise them for doing that to “a child of God”. Well, yes, that’s true. But he said nothing to the scantily dressed woman! This fear, trepidation to call women out when they’re obviously being “Jezebel” is rampant. Every time I see those women come out of the Orthodox Church, they are presentable, not “Jezebel” in appearance. Kudos to the Orthodox Church! ✝️

My view is that we are both right the ones who open their heart to Christ and seeking him to come into us like Saint Paul said. The only thing which i personally cant grasp my heart and mind around about Catholic Church is not giving Holy Communion to their believers. Because Jesus Christ on the last supper give Holy Communion to every single one even to Judas Iscariot, who he knew what is in his heart and mind. @@MrPigeonnn I don't think you even need to explain how infallibility of a single man is off putting to common man. Christians kind of low key want only God to be that, and yeah, you can go and say the Church itself is infallible, but as A WHOLE, not a person in a seat. How many times has a Cardinal have had illegal and illegitimate children just to recognize them once he became Pope, and bam, you can't do anything about it, cause he's infallible. Bad idea.
Same thing for indulgences, the very idea you can buy out of sin is rather disgusting. Do you not know history about these two issues and how much troubles it caused, both theologically and practically?
I mean come on, these things on top of some power struggles is why Protestants became a thing on the first place. Of course people are massively converting to Orthodoxy, especially Western people who grew up as Baptists and other form of herodoxies. If you think about it, it's just as apostolic, has the same structure but doesn't have sniffing pope's fart, and I won't even go into filioque and all that spiel about Pope changing creed without the council, cause I don't even need to, that's just cherry on top.
Basically, if you're some unpracticing Christian that started his journey and are looking into denomination you fit in, if you learn history, you won't pick anything but Orthodoxy.

I made a choice when I was a kid to either be Catholic or Serbian Orthodox as my father was Orthodox and my mother was Catholic. I picked Catholicism as I was not treated well within the Orthodox Church. From what I remember, they didn’t seem to accept me as much as I was not fully Serbian but only half. It was also a very strict church. I felt like I couldn’t relax and would be condemned if I wore jeans to mass. It was also very interesting to me the way that women would get up half way through service to prepare food for the men while the men just sat in church waiting for their meal to be ready. That wasn’t something I was all the way comfortable with. I wasn’t happy at the Orthodox Church. I remember it as a place of judgment and condemnation. Many people within the church also seemed to dislike the Catholic Church when the Catholic Church has no issue with the Orthodox Church. I just don’t think the Orthodox Church is very welcoming to outsiders. I was very unhappy. There doesn’t seem to be RUclips videos made by Catholics talking about why Catholicism is better. Only Orthodox seem to feel the need to talk about why their church is better and judge and compare it to the Catholics. Perhaps I would have chosen to be Orthodox but it seems a bit too judgy for me.

As a Catholic I thought that this was really interesting because in my experience, the Catholic church teaches the same thing that you are talking about, but I thought it was strange that you said "If you're forgiven but still a sinner, what good is that?" The first Saint felt like a good example of the weight of forgiveness without perfection on earth. St. Dismas, the good thief said that he and the other thief deserved to be there. Someone deserving the cruellest punishment being given paradise by the forgiveness of their sins speaks volumes. Add onto that the lack of a longer life for intentionally perfecting ones self by the grace of God makes it seem like forgiveness itself is a large part of the overall purifying agent that works alongside asceticism. Given this example, It seems as though it does some pretty heavy lifting on its own. I'd be curious to hear an extension of this video that delves into the Orthodox perspective of St. Dismas. Thanks for the great videos!

Genuine question, because I feel like it'd almost be, in a way, worshipping the saints. I know I'm wrong, but I don't know what else it is. I know we should hold holy people in high regard, such as Mary, the Mother of Jesus, but what draws the line between worshipping, and repecting or venerating? That's also taught in protestant Christian churches. I was raised Catholic, studied about Orthodoxy, and have been a part of a protestant church for 30 years. This is believed by all Christians, but some emphasize it more, some less. Jesus did not stop at forgiveness; he also imputed his own righteousness and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit -- forgiven AND sanctified by Jesus. I don't think he's presenting a difference in theology, but emphasis and belated understanding. There are many things the catholic church teaches and believes that I failed to understand during my childhood and young adulthood that I came to understand after studying the Bible in a protestant church. What the catholic church (and more importantly, my parents) failed to do with me is teach me to love God's Word and to read it for myself. We were able to rectify this with our own kids. I have a sympathetic disposition toward the Orthodox church, but we all need Jesus for forgiveness and sanctification, regardless of how you express it.

Perfection can not be obtained in this flesh, that’s why scripture says while we were still sinners God saved us. Anyone who says they don’t sin is a liar. We should strive to obey Christ and follow Him daily but also realize that perfection won’t come until Christ returns. We are being sanctified daily but salvation is a one time event. The moment that we accept Jesus as our Lord…the moment we profess faith in His death, burial, and resurrection by the grace of God…we receive the indwelling of The Holy Spirit. Once saved, always saved. Nothing in all of creation can separate a believer from the love of God in Christ our Lord. If salvation could be lost, then we would all lose it. As we strive to become righteous or free from sin, and as we all fall short, true believers find themselves back at the foot of the cross where grace and mercy and the love of God are found abundantly in the perfect sacrifice of Christ our Lord. There is nothing we can do to obtain or maintain salvation, it’s a free gift from God by His grace alone through Christ alone and for His glory alone. So that we have nothing to boast about. The only contribution we make towards our salvation is the sin that makes it necessary. If you have faith in Jesus, praise God! It wasn’t by works or a free will that led anyone to saving faith, but by grace alone. Yes, I believe in the doctrines of grace or the five points of Calvinism. I believe in the five solas. I am a Protestant. I believe in reformed covenant theology. I believe in credo-baptism or believers baptism. I’m a member of a Presbyterian church (PCA). I believe in the Westminster confessions although because of my position on baptism, I probably line up better with the 1689 London Baptist confessional. If you disagree with my beliefs, that’s okay. I just hope and pray that you place all of your faith in Jesus Christ! If we add works to grace, then there is no longer grace. Anything good in or of us is the work of The Holy Spirit, including coming to faith in Christ. Apart from grace, we are all enemies with God. None of us chooses Him, not before He chooses us. When we see Him face to face, if He asks you “why should I let you enter Heaven?” What will you tell Him? Will you start listing all the good things you’ve done, all the right choices you made, will you say that you choose to have faith based on your own free will or logic apart from grace? Or will you simply say, “because Jesus took my punishment for sin, and I am redeemed.” When Jesus offered atonement for our sins on the cross, before He died He said “it is finished”. That’s the only reason God will let any of us enter His Kingdom, because of what Jesus did for us!!! Shalom

While it is true that we need forgiveness for our sins, as attested to in Scripture and the saints, as well as even this video, that forgiveness is only a part of the healing our souls need. We are broken. We are wounded by sin, ours and others. We need to be healed of that wound of original sin, regenerated unto new life, and led into the ways of life. To say that we don’t teach exactly what is said here is demonstrably and factually incorrect. If done knowingly it’s also a lie, calumny.

      From ChatGPT
The practice of confession, particularly in the Christian tradition, has a long history that evolved over centuries. Here's a brief overview:
Early Christianity (1st-3rd Century): Initially, confession of sins was a public act. Early Christians confessed their sins openly before the community and received communal forgiveness. This was based on the belief in mutual accountability and communal support.
4th-6th Century: As Christianity became more institutionalized, the practice of public confession started to change. During this period, the concept of penance developed. St. Ambrose, St. Augustine, and other Church Fathers wrote extensively about sin, confession, and penance.
6th Century: Private confession began to take shape, especially in monastic communities. Irish monks played a significant role in promoting private confession. They introduced "penitential books," which provided a list of sins and corresponding penances.
Later Middle Ages (12th-13th Century): The Fourth Lateran Council in 1215 made annual confession to a priest mandatory for all Christians. This formalized the practice of private confession and established it as a sacrament in the Roman Catholic Church.
Council of Trent (1545-1563): The Council of Trent reaffirmed the importance of confession and the sacrament of penance in response to the Protestant Reformation, which had challenged many traditional Catholic practices, including confession.
Throughout history, the practice of confession has varied widely across different Christian denominations and has evolved to include both private and communal forms.

Bro to say that it’s problematic to paint salvation as being about forgiveness is very problematic… and very unbiblical

Salvation is about jesus, having faith in Jesus means following his teachings.
    Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but this isn't exclusive to Orthodox Christianity. Protestantism and Catholicism both have this idea. It may be expressed differently but the idea is the same.

But a human will ever be at some point a sinner. Only in the return of Jesus or in the first death we will be perfectly heald.

One thing I've noticed with the works based groups is that they are very, very careful to call what they are doing anything but what it actually is in practice.

Does he think the Catholic Church doesn’t have sacraments, the same church fathers, and healing?

Who told the Orthodox that the catholicism doesnt involve teaching? Matter of effect, the Cath. Church created the educational system. Even at Theological levels we have to understand as Catholics how the spiritual mechanism and the Sinm of the flesh works

You will never be perfect. You will never not be a sinner. What good is Jesus if you can work yourself into Heaven? The Bible itself teaches salvation by grace through faith in Jesus. It also literally teaches that works will not save you, nor can any human offer you salvation.
