    Getting job means being a likeable person. Qualifications are sometimes set aside for a person who smiles, makes interviewer comfortable and relaxed.

    Its tough here as an international student, i used to compare the job market back in my country where if i applied a job atleast companies call me back. Here in canada theres is so little response or more rejection. There is some zoom interviews i got but hr just let me wait in the screen and cancel it. Im lucky that I have family that supports me or else ill be homeless. Also, i face like alot of discrimination too because im asian. Anyways, still fighting to get a job to atleast to not rely too much on my family.

    Hi, thank you for the very informative video about how to get a job in CA. My question is, when applying for a customer service job like in Starbucks, what type/kind/style of resume should be submitted if all of your experience are for skilled/professional worker? (Current status is student looking for a part time). Thanks in advance!

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  10 месяцев назад +3

      Haha, very good question! I asked myself similar question when I was about to apply at Starbucks with my banking background. First, I summarized my one page professional background into just several lines (at the bottom) Then I added all the customer service related roles I could think of on the top. In the end, they want to know what you can do in practice and get a sense if you can be a good frontliner. So I went back as far as my college years and added a job I had in a restaurant, etc. Important also is to add a short summary on top stating a goal (e.g. to look for a part-time role where you can hone your customer service skills etc.) Hope this helps!

    Yup the way to get a job here in Canada is through connections, otherwise good luck finding a job. I have seen so many young people, friends and family, struggled to find work even for years. I know someone who had to leave the country to teach english in another country because she couldn't a find a job after years of graduating university. I also know so many people keep going back to school to learn something else because they couldn't get a job after finishing their diplomas. And it's not like they were studying something that is considered hard to find work; they were studying computers or business. This situation didnt happen years ago, it's more a situation in the past decade.

    In these cases it is important to have a network and friends. Might not be possible for newcomers, as myself. Other than that, makes sense.

    I am myself an accountant in my home country, next year I will go and start again by searching a job. Any places you could recommend to me for an accountant entry job??

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  Год назад +1

      I can't recommend anything specific, as accountants are needed everywhere. I guess it depends on your niche as well. Are you arriving with a PR/open work permit here? For foreigners (I'm assuming you are?) it's quite difficult to get a job in the beginning, without any connections and references. I would suggest just working anywhere you can to get those references. After your initial 1,2 jobs you have options for where you want to ideally work.

    Hi,
    I am a game programmer, recently graduated from college in Toronto. I couldn't find a full-time position as a game dev for a few months now. So, I started to look for a temporary solution like a customer service.
    I came across this video and decided to go in person to Starbucks and some other places, unfortunately, everybody sent me to apply online. Do you have anything to suggest in this situation?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  8 месяцев назад +1

      After applying online, you could try taking a print out of your resume to the branch where you want to work and meet the manager to introduce yourself. That's what I did. I have a video specifically about working and getting a job at starbucks, perhaps you can check that out!

    • @LivinginCanada

      You can just wait until you arrive to download any apps, but I found 'rocketman app' to be useful for checking connections (transport, ttc). For Sim card it depends, if you're here long term as resident, there are many providers (koodo which I use, bell, freedom, telus, etc.). Koodo has worked well for me so far. If you're here as a visitor, I'd recommend you to check the overseas/roaming packages with the provider in your home country.

    Hi, kindly guide me on how do I get the job on a visit visa? and where I have to stay once I come to Canada on the visitor visa. While holding a visitor visa does the employer will take interview? kindly guide me end to end.

    • @LivinginCanada
      @LivinginCanada  2 года назад +3

      A visitor visa is only for visiting, i.e. visiting family and friends, leisure, and doesn't allow one to work on it. I am not an immigration advisor so I cannot get further advice!
      In general, nowadays many interviews are held online, so as long as you can get an interview you can do it online from anywhere (as long as the employer is open to that).
      Getting a job is easiest when you are already in the country. Most foreigners would get a job here by applying for PR first, or study here and find a job right after. I believe there are some other programs for specific jobs/industries, you would need to google that. Good luck!
