      @Tornado1994 5 лет назад +9

      @@bagelq2028 This is what I surmise happened in September 2002. Larry Kasanoff has the money from investors ready to green light the almost finished product although Chester Cheetah is in the product as a cameo, there's other icons he wants to use so he goes to Dole, Frito Lay, Sun Maid e.t.c and asks for clearance to use the likenesses, the Companies then have their laywers order Threshold Entertainment email and mail them a draft of the script. The Lawyers read it to the companies, a response is sent back to Kasanoff "We Decline, This script and humor is not representative of family values and thus it is not in our interest to associate our brands with this type of film, we ask that you omit any planned models of our brand icons or we will take legal action" . Kasanoff is stymied, with clearance from the Food companies DENIED, and with the risk of legal hell if he ignores their warning, he has no choice but to shelve the project until further notice. He doesn't care about the script, he feels its fine. And so in December 2002, the project is postponed. The drives containing models and grocery icons are stored away in his own File cabinet. To bide time, he fabricates a whopper that they were stolen. June 2007, 5 years pass, Kasanoff is ready to start over again, but Threshold Entertainment doesn't want to pony up money for newer rendering software, so they order software from 2003. To make matters worse, everyone is behind schedule so there's no time to overlay the CG animation or finish the new models for that matter. March 2009, Food Fight is finally completed after 8 years of production hell. Kasanoff sends the shit looking product to Hollywood studios and Movie companies everywhere. But they THEY had standards. The prints are sent back to him with scathing rejection letters and TE, some even have responses like "Are you serious?", "Okay, go buy out McDonalds first and then we'll do it" "HELL no!". For 2 years, Kasanoff is left with nothing. Hollywood has rejected Food Fight. November 2011, for some reason a UK studio and investor agrees to distribute the film in the UK for a early Summer release. June 2012, Food Fight is released in the UK theaters, it bombs badly. September 2012, Food Fight finally gets a quiet Direct to DVD release in North America. It becomes one of the biggest DTV/DVD release commercial failures of all time.

    MY IDEA FOR THE FOOD FIGHT MOVIE CONCEPT:
    Lady X could have been in a relationship with Dex Dogtective in the beginning of the story's prologue (in opening credits form), as she is a successful, powerful and world renowned product icon (or ike), with Dex supporting her by her side while he does his normal detective business. However, over the years, Lady X becomes arrogant with how her company runs things, losing touch with how her food merchandise is produced, as its quality of it gradually deteriorates over the years. This upsets Dex as he believes that this method of business will not only damage her career, but also its consumers as well. As a result, their relationship eventually reduces to a break-up. Although, Dex is no longer in the spotlight with Lady X, over time, her bad quality of food products takes effect on the people, resulting in her being recalled, effectively destroying her career as an ike. After she is pulled from the shelves of the stores, Dex learns to live on with his life, focusing on his job until her meets Sunshine Goodness and starts dating her.
    From that point, on the original story can take off from there. This would give Lady X a reason to resurface within the ike community, trying to resurrect her once unbeatable position of the food world, including trying to get Dex back with her, as she briefly mentioned wanting to be with him in the original movie. Also, she doesn't turn into a ugly person when Sunshine kicks her ass. Lady X still goes to prison, or whatever, because she trying taking over the ike world, as well as the food industry. Although Dex feels bad for her, he still rejects her plead to reconcile their once powerful relationship because of her actions and what she had become.

      Or better improve upon the Idea and story like make how the characters come to life more specific and rewrite basically the whole story to make it more coherent and compelling, hell make it a bit like Shrek where it is self aware with it’s own idea which can give it’s sense of humour a medda, witty and unique style to make it funnier. Like the post credit scenes can make fun of the fact that the characters in the better movie have seen the horrible version and the main character will have a vivid nightmare of his supermarket become the worst movie ever made. I can imagine this literally being more funnier than the entirety of this film, as for the animation. I would redesign everyone and experiment with the medium of animation by having different characters have different animation and art styles as all supermarket icons are drawn or illustrated differently. I would do all of this if I have my own animation studio or a lot of money...:(

      Basically remake the whole movie to be a classic! Seriously I have a bit of a soft spot for this movie’s CONCEPT mind you... It really has potential to make itself a animation or movie classic!! I hope someday there will be a reboot of foodfight, a version with great animation, great compelling characters, great humour and most importantly an interestingly unique story! Seriously this Low-key deserved to be rebooted and improved upon! :)

    I wish they would remake this movie; I think with a huge rewrite in the story and script (take out the fart jokes and sexual innuendos), as well as recreate the models inspired from the 2002 designs, this can become a decent movie.
    EXAMPLE: Lady X could have been in a relationship with Dex Dogtective in the beginning of the story's prologue (in opening credits form), as she is a successful, powerful and world renowned product icon (or ike), with Dex supporting her by her side while he does his normal detective business. However, over the years, Lady X becomes arrogant with how her company runs things, loosing touch with how her food merchandise is produced, as its quality of it gradually deteriorates over the years.

    My god, that makes so much sense. Who would honestly decide to become the director of a movie when they have no experience in filmmaking whatsoever? Even Jeffrey Katzenberg would never direct any movie at Dreamworks, because he actually knows how to run a company. Larry Kasanoff was being too greedy and wish washy and decided to direct the project, yet he ended up having no clue what to do with it and gave us the unfinished broken disaster piece we have today. Granted you could view the movie as a guide on how NOT to make an animated movie, but either way you'll always see it as a failure in film and animation.

They even said Larry was too overconfident in which he decided to direct and produce the film, probably to show how good he is despite having no animation experience before. He and the animators were speaking in two different languages and kept saying things like make it more awesome.

      +Sailor Italy I think Foodfight is the worst animated movie ever; if only because of it's $45 million+ budget. It represents so much wrong with today's animation. It had a blatantly incestuous relationship with sponsors, showed a complete lack of imagination in plot and characters, hired famous actors for character voices to be more marketable, had a ridiculously over-inflated budget, and was made by an incompetent egomaniac. It's at once a vanity project and an exploitation film - except without any exploitative elements people may enjoy.
      Though it's good for laughs in a nihilistic kind of way. You get to enjoy all the wasted time, energy, and money that was employed to attempt (and fail at) a quick cash-grab.

And I would hire animators who are professional and ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THE'RE DOING. I would never hire Larry to remake it because he had his chance and he blew it! Thought, even if the animation was actually good, I can't see this to become better than an 4/10, not without some serious rewrites, then it might actually could have been something decent (6/10). Maybe Peter Gadner, because he stole the equipment for Freaky Flickers, so maybe, he must've committed a crime before he forced Freaky Flickers to be cancelled.

    I like to wonder what it would be like if a bunch of independent animators/ artists got together to completely reanimate/redraw the movie. Like imagine how much different yet way better Food Fight would look if Vivziepop or some other awesome artist redid it?!

    This is what I surmise happened in September 2002.
It becomes one of the biggest DTV/DVD release commercial failures of all time.

    the whole "this movie was stolen" thing seems too sketchy to me. it really seems like they might have accidentally deleted the progress for the film, and instead of owning up to the mistake they made up a backstory that it was stolen.

    Larry Kasanoff reminds me of Tommy Wiseau. Both of them have never directed movies before, they both had an idea for a film that had potentional but executed them in the worst ways possible. Nobody could do anything to stop them because they were in charge of all the money. Everyone had to do what they said even if they had no idea what they were doing.

    What's so sad about this piece of shit is that it COULD have been a half-decent film. Making brand mascots actual characters in a cute kid's movie? It would pay for itself, literally, and it would endear children to the jingles and caricatures they already know. And Charlie Sheen as a wise-cracking detective? I'd be on board with that. He's already a snarky asshole, just make him an animated dog!

    I still find it incredibly convenient that the movie hard drives were stolen right after a good portion of the companies that were actually paying money for their characters to be in the film pulled their support. It's just way too on the nose.
    If the work, hard drives, are stolen and no culprit is found the insurance company for the production has to pay for the cost of the work lost. As I said when it happened was just way too convenient.

    • @billybarnett9518
      @billybarnett9518 8 лет назад +1

      I thought they pulled their support afterwards cause Lawrence wrote in sex jokes like peanut envy for M&Ms.

    • @Isolder74
      @Isolder74 8 лет назад +1

      Yes that is why they pulled their funding. Those things were happening before the drives were supposedly stolen. So from the start the truth of the matter is Lawrence had no clue what he was doing and was stubbornly doing things that were torpedoing his chances of making his idea work at all.

    Looking at the trailer and the final movie there are a few shots in the trailer that look kind of similar to the final movie. My guess is that the models they were using were prototypes used for an art style that was shelved early on in development, but because the final designs were on the hard drives that were destroyed-- sorry, I meant "stolen" they just pulled out from what was available, which were the prototype models, which was then later "cleaned up"
