Perfect way to put it actually, I've seen this happen over and over again. Someone putting out something funny for their audience which gets exclusively positive responses, but it happens to get enough clicks to be picked up by the algorithm and now people outside of that audience see it. Suddenly - Drama. Never worth getting bothered about it, it's sometimes even added content because - as with the aforementioned clip - people getting mad about such trivial things is sometimes entertaining.
@@ikikaera3402 tbf tho there is a big difference between "meme man mutes a character" and "my audience abides terrible shit that wouldnt fly elsewhere"
the argument i saw from some (not all) was that muting the clip was fueled by misogyny since people tend to react negatively to women being in video games. while misogyny in the gaming sphere is definitely a real thing that should be addressed, in vinny's case it was definitely not for that reason and it felt weird to see people make thinkpieces on him over it? at least, i've never gotten women-hating vibes from binyot before so maybe that's just me. felt like accusations that would most certainly fit others being thrown at him from people who have never watched a single second of one of his streams. it got taken WAY too seriously and that energy that could've been expended on anything else of actual importance.
If it was a guy narrating my massive man-rection (called so because I'm straight as fuck and not gay and perfectly fine and okay with my sexuality) would've pulled me trough it and i wouldn't have muted it.
@@crackedemerald4930they knew users would like to mute this visually appealing, ambience focused interactive art piece so they get high to play or use their own music to take in the visuals.
I'd say though that people should stop acting like apologies have to be some admission of guilt. "Sorry if this came across as misogynistic to some of you but all it was was that I really didn't like the writing" isn't exactly surrendering yourself either, just a way to clear up intentions.
@@Hero_Puddle Except they are treated that way. That's exactly why the people who get upset demand an apology. He clarified that it's a directional problem. He said all he did was mute the audio. Anyone unsatisfied with that has an ego problem and doesn't deserve an apology.
I think Zach hit the nail on the head in that Oneyplays Forspoken video, where he says "imagine if, in Star Wars, Luke Skywalker spent the first 15 minutes going 'this can NOT be happening! Euuuaaah droid! Euuuaahhh guy with a scary helmet! What is going ooonnnnnnnn!?!?" Even though it was meant to be goofy, it's an accurate depiction of this style of writing.
I’m not saying I like forspoken, in fact I despise just about everything in it, but Luke has been living in that universe his whole life, whereas forspoken protag (forgot her name and don’t care) got anime isekai’d into a fantasy world. There would be no conceivable reason why Luke would react to things that way unless he was mentally challenged, whereas forspoken protag has to cope with suddenly being in a new world and having never before heard of powers when our normal Earth is all she’s known. Her confusion is understandable, but the writers take it way too far and make her seem like a pissant with practically every line she says.
because its a game, you literally are frey. I don't need to be told how to feel because I'm also in that world for the first time. dialogue like that ruins all immersion
@@cyber_xiii3786 She was talking like a spastic before she went into the fantasy world though, and in the fantasy world it's not just limited to dialogue involving her being confused, so that reasoning doesn't work
@@cyber_xiii3786Have you not seen Starwars? Luke lived isolated on a farm on a desert planet his whole life before he's recruited to become a jedi, fly to other planets in the galaxy and take on the empire alongside other rebels. Modern writers could easily take that premise and ruin it with an obnoxious protagonist who can't go 5 sec without commenting on what's happening. Just because Forspoken was an isekai, doesn't mean the protagonist couldn't be written better. I've seen plenty of isekais with likeable main characters that don't act like that.
I think it's funny people take Vinny and his decisions in video games so seriously. The dude that can make 3 duck noises simultaneously with his voice and lives with a weed smoking Alien.
This reminds me of when he played Amongus VR on VR chat the first time and Peachjars was there. Everyone interpreted him as hating every second he was around her and was trying to fabricate so much drama when it was so obvious Vinny was just being quieter because he didn't know everyone. Some people are just insane.
That and direction. You can be the best actor in the world, if you're made to deliver your lines in an obnoxious way, it's going to be obnoxious Even cringe lines can be made to work (granted, the ones in Wayfinder or Forspoken really start with a big handicap in that department), as long as they're handled with a very competent direction
@@silverhand9965 what actors could say those lines without them sounding obnoxious and patronising? I honestly can't think of any, maybe Jerry Seinfeld or Adam Sandler because you'd know they're being ironic?
Didn't Vinny later mention in the stream that we're kinda quick to just blame directing for bad voice acting? Not that it wasn't the case for this particular game, I just see that's often the easy answer people jump to when really it can be multiple factors.
Imagine if Chell from Portal/Portal 2 never shut up and was saying things like: “Huh. Looks like the white walls can hold the portals.” “Cool! I shot a portal I can see myself!” “Wonder if my speed carries when I go through one of these things.” “Well hey there Companion Cube, you look cute. Maybe I should call you … Companion Cute.” “That idiot Glados is really getting on my nerves, is she watching me through those cameras?”
Add in even more shitty quips like jumping through a portal fast or using the gel and her going "WOOHOO, THIS IS GREAT!", and making snarky quips whenever you break a camera/wheatley screen like "Hah, that'll show you. Or at least, it'll show whatever robot has to come fix this, I guess..." "What the hell, is this a bridge? Made of... light? I guess if don't have another choice..." And then make it like every AAA game with stealth by having her constantly talk whenever turrets are around but can't see her like "Hmm, maybe I can use those laser cubes to ignite those turrets..." "I better find a way around these turrets, I wonder if the light bridges are solid enough to block bullets?"
I like how the account that posted it was called "vinesauce clips out of context" and then people got mad because they assumed that was the whole context.
I saw people on twitter comparing the dialogue to portal and saying that people would have hated portal if it released now... i cant with that app anymore
The original Portal was very tame and concise with it's dialogue to the point where I'm sure a good chuck of Zoomers would even find it boring. The second game was when it started getting a little more quirky with it's dialogue however it was spaced out and consciously written to not be absolutely obnoxious to the player.
@@mask-mimic I obviously know that not every single Zoomer is a low attention span dopamine addict or something it's just that these people think the Portal games were somehow catering to that stereotype when they don't fit the description at all. It just blew up due to relatability and perfect comedic timing. Muting voices isn't much different from mashing through tedious conversations in FF16. The option is appreciated, and I'd hope other developers don't start removing it out of spite.
Yeah, if that were to happen, I think it may be time to get them therapy and put restraining orders on investors and executives to forbid them from coming near the devs, because obviously somthing bad is happening there.
@@feelinghealing3890 "put restraining orders on investors and executives to forbid them from coming near the devs" this sounds too good, we would need this
my biggest beef with the dialogue is that it and the subtitles are mismatched. one of the phonograph recordings vinny interacted with in the first VOD for that game had entire sentences left out from the subtitles!! it pisses me off knowing that as much as I don't like the voice acting, the subtitles don't even transcribe everything and can't serve as a proper replacement for the dialogue spoken aloud.
Voice actors trying to spice up the recording and impress contractors often change the dialog in the spot While the subtitles are worked with the written script by a different person. Then lack of communication within the devs end up with mismatched subtitles. It also pisses me off because it's a small red flag that the development team was cohesive.
@@lasarousiyou'd think they'd go back after they got the voice lines and tweak the subtitles to make them fit better, but that's less common than you'd think
Vinny is so real for this. I've seen the clip go viral on Twitter and I was so confused when I seen the complaints and how they think you hate the game. Brain rot.
it's not like that, sure there were some who interpreted it like that, but there are more issues than twitter users misinterpreting something, the clip exploded and it basically ruined the perception of the game because it's so easy to join into making fun of the game when so many people do it, the writing is just corny, that's it, but people are so cynical that immediately went "no chances from me for this game" or "im gonna pirate it" (and indie game btw) when their work deserves to be recognized, the issue is not with vinny but with the way we viralize this type of point-and-laugh content again, it's easy to go "ugh twitter again" but please have some nuance and look a bit more deep into the situation
@@gaogaogagayou are talking like that is somehow vinny's fault for literally just finding dialog annoying and using the in game options to turn it off. every person involved in making that controversial is completely insane, and incapable of functioning outside twitter.

It's definitely hard to know what's going to trend, but to say it's completely tarnished the game's reputation is an overstatement. Regardless of whether or not it was an indie game or a AAA game, first impressions are so, so critical to games. If that's the first impression you get at the start of the game, then it's really hard to shake it off. Though he didn't do anything terrible, the campaign definitely had an effect on Vinny, a pretty private person. I think Jabroni Mike (an old friend of his) made a tweet saying he'd no longer be friends if the allegations were true, but I can't remember if that was true. Regardless, Vinny made a pretty somber video discussing what would be going down, sought legal counsel for libel, and went away for a few months. Ultimately that was the most important point I think, as he got a much needed break from streaming nightly and was able to reorient his priorities.
Vinny's feelings on the lame MCU quips resonate far and wide. Devs need to learn that just because you *can* have voiced dialogue doesn't mean you *should* if you can't write worth a damn.
I don't know what ground they have to get angry over that clip. I seen that clip before and 100% felt the same way as Vinny. People find the dumbest things to get mad over.
Adding to what Vinny said, I think that acting with as much hate as people do towards the devs and the voice actress with regards to shitty dialogue is just as sad a behavior as being mad at his reaction.
Nothing wrong with voicing your displeasure with something. It's only wrong if you then attack someone over it. Saying "this aspect of this game is shit, I don't like it" doesn't translate into "and also a pox upon your family" automatically. Some people take their criticisms too far, and then yet others still start associating all criticisms with attacks.
@@Guntfarm For these types of people, everything is an attempt at a revolution against women whenever people say something bad about something tangentially related to women. When you challenge them, they point to a small handful of comments or some appeal to "look for yourself". Just another internet troll, except they're serious.
The sad part is, the initial companion character and the ecological plot are the two points that really detract from the game, and both do so to such a heavy extent that the game is regarded far worse than it realistically deserves. Were the plot simply CAIT the AI lost in old photographs, unable and unwilling to move on from a fictional world stuck in the past, that would be an exceptionally poignant tragic story needing no additional context. However, since the game starts out with an incredibly irritating voiceover character, that was enough of a bother that even the devs gave the option to never pick up her voicemails, and then progresses into a weird climate narrative that seems at odds with itself and even _breaks the laws of physics on multiple occasions_ ("sound travels faster than light" and a real plant being brought out of a VR pod), it made itself hard to take seriously no matter how interesting the puzzles were.
Most plausible reasons I've seen regarding why the site had a hissy fit: 1. Fringe kinds of people took him muting the female voice as a stance on female voice actresses. When in reality it was just a gut reaction to hearing the same sarcastic/ironic humor that has plagued entertainment for the last couple of years. 2. Some people were linking it to the writer's strike currently going on. Seeing it as a disrespect on the effort put by the games writers who made the dialogue. 3. People wanting to increase their viewer engagement by partaking in a little rage baiting, in the effort of getting some clicks. Edit: As for the people attacking the game, it was simply because they assumed the game's quality in all it's parts was on par with the writing present in it, which is a stupid line of reasoning if I'm being honest.
At this point if there's drama and twitter is mad at you, you're doing something right and getting popular. Upsetting Twitter is like a badge of honor now.

The common Twitter user sh*t and cry when you look their way and say something they dislike such as "Take a shower" or "Go outside", nothing to worry about when they're upset. It's normal Twitter behavior.
To be fair telling someone to take a shower or go outside is a very childish and dismissive insult. Anyway let me just quickly shower and go outside so when someone inevitably replies telling me to take a shower and/or go outside, it isn't relevant and they're the one with egg on their face.

I thought the clip was hilarious because I had the EXACT same reaction to the dialogue in that game. I even tried turning it back on at one point halfway through the demo I was playing, and it was just as bad. It's exactly what Vin said at 2:38, I just want to experience the game without _that_ kind of dialogue.
Twitter will always be a site where ragebaiting is king, so reacting angrily to a clip of a guy literally just turning off the voice-over in a game is sadly a great way for people to gain a lot of engagement really fast, even if they know that they're overreacting to the problem or even barely give a shit about what they're saying. This culture also justifies (in people's minds at least) thinking that what Vinny did was some kind of "attack" against the game, when it really was just him being annoyed by something.
I played the demo of this game and while I didn't mute the lady, I can see (well, hear) why it would be grating. That "Hello fellow children" feel of her dialogue wasn't fantastic. That said, I hate the fact that this game went viral for such a dumb reason. It's a beautiful and awesome puzzle game - and that's coming from someone who typically does not like puzzle games. It should be going viral for its merits, not because a youtuber muted a voice. This statement isn't against Vinny obviously. This is against the people who got angry over something so childish.
The thing that gets me is that at what point is something, like dialog, so bad that it's better to just remove it? Obviously, as was discussed, you can turn it off, which is standard. What I mean is that if I were to make a collage of art and most of it was satisfactory, but a part of two was so awful that it unintentionally detracted from the overall piece, then should those parts stay? The difference is that removing the dialog from a game is basically removing the story (whether someone thinks it belongs in said game is a different topic), but if it detracts enough and provides little enough value to the player as far as going into the negative, then should it be cut? Many games in the past, like Ratchet and Clank, had cut content that the devs would showcase in some form and sometimes things were cut due to time or know-how, but many times also just because they said it wasn't... Not necessarily "fun", because I don't think that word applies to everything, but that it was just too flawed. Sometimes major components would get cut. Again, there's a choice to turn off the dialog, as we know, but if it's mere existence is that bad, then why is it there other than simply for the sake of it? And I mean that more from the perspective that if I make something I want it to be the best that it can. If I make something terrible, of course I'd try to learn from it, but I'd rather not pass it off as my best.
@@LocalSlasherand that's the other side of the tugwar. This game is ambience and environmentally focused. It's such a shame because the game has a built in point that would be perfect for introducing that character in a good way, no spoilers but there's a short segment early on in the game that takes the player away from the main game and gives us some context for the plot, and if that was the first time we were introduced to that voice and character, that would have worked so much better! I think what made the character so grating was how it shatters the games calm atmosphere so frequently, if they had just waited to introduce that character, then relegated them to the phones later in the game it would have worked great! still an amazing little game, but I have to wonder how that character came to be in the game the way it was...it just seemed so counter to the atmosphere the rest of the game was going for

The idea that someone got actually angry that Vinny muted that dialogue is really, really funny. Almost as funny as the clip itself
the argument i saw from some (not all) was that muting the clip was fueled by misogyny since people tend to react negatively to women being in video games. while misogyny in the gaming sphere is definitely a real thing that should be addressed, in vinny's case it was definitely not for that reason and it felt weird to see people make thinkpieces on him over it? at least, i've never gotten women-hating vibes from binyot before so maybe that's just me. felt like accusations that would most certainly fit others being thrown at him from people who have never watched a single second of one of his streams.

Why even have subtitles if they're not gonna have all the dialogue that's being spoken?
Voice actors trying to spice up the recording and impress contractors often change the dialog in the spot

@@Marlotixthat doesn't make sense rationally.
The clip is literally demonstrating how even with bad dialog, you can continue to enjoy it because there's an option to turn it off.
The outrage is mostly about the voice actress being "disrespected", because people who want that line of work get anxious their career option is being blasted by content creators and the general public and NEED to defend it because they will be part of that scene.
Terraria's music fucking sucks
@@lasarousi You and I are seeing different people complain about different things then. I've seen people bring that point about turning it off up but then they respond with "I don't care" or "It shouldn't be in the game anyway" or "They shouldn't make me have to turn a feature of the game off."
I hadn't seen anyone talk about the voice actress other than some people feeling bad for her or others making "women aren't funny" jokes (which ironically those jokes aren't funny).

I found it amusing because vinny was exactly because of how quickly he noped it, it was like if GladOs had all the charm sucked out of her dialogue. The whole reason GladOs worked was because she delivered all her lines under 18 miles of sarcasm. "How amazing, you managed to survive *slow clap"
I laughed, realest vinny moment for me lmao

did he die and revive like jesus?
@@scrung He did. And when He rose from that rotten womb, the slime girls rejoiced.
@@scrungthere was what was seemed to be a smear campaign organized against him, possibly by/at the very least backed by a jilted ex-vinesauce streamer (kicked for soliciting donations from the community under guise of an emergency) back in 2021
The allegations made claims about Vinny being a sex pest, but none of them painted Vinny as actually having done anything bad (with several victims, all of whom were all consenting adults also coming out in defense of Vinny as their part of the story had been deliberately misrepresented by the person) - with the brunt of any actual sin being ghosting hookups and possibly spreading an undetectable STD, with at least one or two pieces of falsified evidences.
People need to loosen up.

Very much agree
Nothing wrong with voicing your displeasure with something. It's only wrong if you then attack someone over it. Saying "this aspect of this game is shit, I don't like it" doesn't translate into "and also a pox upon your family" automatically. Some people take their criticisms too far, and then yet others still start associating all criticisms with attacks.
Saying a feature in a game is shit isn't "acting with hate and toxicity"
@@Guntfarm For these types of people, everything is an attempt at a revolution against women whenever people say something bad about something tangentially related to women. However, since the game starts out with an incredibly irritating voiceover character, that was enough of a bother that even the devs gave the option to never pick up her voicemails, and then progresses into a weird climate narrative that seems at odds with itself and even _breaks the laws of physics on multiple occasions_ ("sound travels faster than light" and a real plant being brought out of a VR pod), it made itself hard to take seriously no matter how interesting the puzzles were.

theres gotta be a deeper reason why theyre angry i feel like a lot of people are shoving past it.
Most plausible reasons I've seen regarding why the site had a hissy fit:

The common Twitter user sh*t and cry when you look their way and say something they dislike such as "Take a shower" or "Go outside", nothing to worry about when they're upset. It's normal Twitter behavior.
To be fair telling someone to take a shower or go outside is a very childish and dismissive insult. Anyway let me just quickly shower and go outside so when someone inevitably replies telling me to take a shower and/or go outside, it isn't relevant and they're the one with egg on their face.
when i go outside people still tell me to take a shower, instructions unclear, please help?

Twitter is such a sad place, they got mad at a post someone made in 2015.

Nuance was never Twatter's strong suite. Now least of all.
Now for this clip to blow up bigger than the original clip resulting in a new clip discussing this clip discussing the other clip.
Vinny's a hero for what he did. I hope he knows that.
for some reason i kept mentally waiting for vinny to turn into moistcritikal and say "and yeah, thats about it. cya" at the end of every sentence
Imagine being so chronically online you have a shit fit cause someone muted marvel-esc dialogue.
That's just Twitter now being farmed on rage baiting posts from Elon shills
You mean to tell me that people can play a videogame however they want and still have a great time?
Outrageous!
It's always Twitter
That dialog was so booty man. It was hilarious how fast he found that option to turn it down
The thing that gets me is that at what point is something, like dialog, so bad that it's better to just remove it?
You don't need dialog to tell a story. It helps, sure, but it's not necessary
@@gingermcgingin4106True, but it would have to be designed that way from the start in that case (or completely re-worked).
@@LocalSlasherand that's the other side of the tugwar.
This game is ambience and environmentally focused. A narrative that is told through show don't tell would have been prime, not even through much text either. Just environmental storytelling.
Instead there's the equivalent of the tiktok text to speech lady voice "hyping" up a game that does not need to be hyped up.
The later dialogue is quite good. It's really only that first part that's that bad. Ripping all dialogue from the game would have been worse for the game as a completed work, no question.
@@AlphaetusPrimealmost definitely false, this kind of game doesnt need spoken dialogue and I hate that its a trend for every single game to have it. image myst if a quirky halfwit were saying really obvious or really stupid shit ever time you took a breath. it would have been an objectively worse experience.
It's such a shame because the game has a built in point that would be perfect for introducing that character in a good way, no spoilers but there's a short segment early on in the game that takes the player away from the main game and gives us some context for the plot, and if that was the first time we were introduced to that voice and character, that would have worked so much better!
I think what made the character so grating was how it shatters the games calm atmosphere so frequently, if they had just waited to introduce that character, then relegated them to the phones later in the game it would have worked great!
still an amazing little game, but I have to wonder how that character came to be in the game the way it was...it just seemed so counter to the atmosphere the rest of the game was going for
I was defending the game cuz its actually good appart from the dialogue and then got hated on by a tweet with like 30k likes, twitter is so hateful lmao
