  • From Foregate Street to Shrub Hill - Trains at Worcester (15th August 2023) - Running Time 22 minutes 14 seconds.
Worcester is located on the crossroads of two main lines. There is a regular service to Birmingham and Hereford provided by West Midlands Railway while GWR provide services along the Cotswold Line to London Paddington along with stations further south to Bristol Temple Meads. In this video I visited Foregate Street Station which serves the central and western districts of Worcester while the station at Shrub Hill is located to the east. The station layout at Foregate Street is unusual in that travelling east the two platforms serve different routes. Platform 1 can only be accessed by trains via Worcester Shrub Hill (including trains to and from London Paddington) and via Cheltenham Spa towards the south west. Meanwhile, Platform 2 can only be accessed from the east by trains running directly to and from Droitwich Spa (avoiding Shrub Hill). The station at Shrub Hill originally boasted major facilities including a large goods yard and locomotive and carriage sheds. Most of this has now gone and the station is just a shadow of its former self. While walking between the two stations I took in some of the sights around the city including the magnificent Cathedral. I hope you enjoy the video.
