Thank you this very doable with a few dollar store tool. Metal straw punch. Break blade exacto. Small chisel, or sharpened spatula. People can find the drive for progress and look at what they already have. Enthusiasm and a belief in your own creativity, will take you far. Good luck fellow earthlings.

The only tool you really need for this design is a sharp knife. He also used a couple of punches and a stretcher, but you could pretty easily improvise something else for those.

E Co. have you got a box cutter? A good box cutter, single blade ones not the ones that have an extendable blade that snaps off. Maybe a Scalpel? It’s got to be sharp, and sturdy! My partner started doing leatherwork as a hobby 35 years ago, and he's taught me some things. You don't need much to stat out, I highly doubt the Natives had all the tools we have, but they did great leather items they used every day!

Just bought this pattern with the plan to make it a belt bag for my Ren Faire outfit! Can you please clarify what you mean by "weave the edges back in the direction they came from"? I'm not sure what that means.
I'll probably stitch a belt loop onto the back although to keep it no-sew I suppose cutting a couple of slits in the back would work as well.
