Peugeot 308: A worthy foe for the Ford Focus?

  • Peugeot is a company that's been enjoying something of a renaissance in the past couple of years. Many of its models have adopted new, more aggressive styling and more lustrous interior quality, and that's made them considerably more appealing to buyers. Now, it's the turn of the humble 308 hatchback to get similar treatment, and having traditionally been a rather humdrum choice in a class full of talent, it's a treatment that's badly needed. What's more, on top of the meaner looks and classier interior, Peugeot has also given the 308's technology a severe overhaul, including the introduction of this new plug-in hybrid version, in advance of a new all-electric version later in the year.
In this CarGurus UK video review, Vicky Parrott gets to grips with Peugeot's new 308, to see if it has the talent to take on family hatchback favourites such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.

A great review as always Vicky. I very good point about the under floor storage not being large enough to store the charge cable. At least they provide a bag but it'll eat into storage space regardless. At least you won't have to empty the boot to get at the cable. Paying extra for a 3 pin charge cable is a bit of a reach and having said that with a real world >20 miles electric only it could make quite a difference on a 60 mile daily commute where 50% is town traffic. A great looking car and I love the new Lion logo. That interior has been a huge improvement as you mention but lets hope it wears well. Thanks Vicky for sharing.

Peugeot have done well with their recent replacements for the 208 and 308 ranges, but the lack of "hot" versions leaves me out. They do nothing to match the 208 GTi and 308 GTi that were my previous car and the one before that. There could be great potential in, say, a hybrid with 150 or so hp engine driving the front and 150hp electric driving the back.
