2022 Ford Focus: Can a facelift save the Ford Focus?

  • After all, the Focus used to be a firm fixture in the list of Britain's bestselling cars. However, in recent years buyers have flocked to SUVs and crossovers, leaving the Focus as something of an afterthought in the minds of new car buyers. To put the car back on buyers' radar, Ford has facelifted the Focus for 2022.
    The changes include updated engines, refreshed styling and improved in-car technology, which are all designed to make this Mk4 Focus feel new and fresh. But 25 years after the original Focus went on sale, can this model still cut it?
    In this CarGurus UK review, Rebecca Jackson spends time in the 1.0-litre EcoBoost mild hybrid version of the Focus with 155 horsepower as its disposal, and finished in ST-Line Vignale trim. As well as reminding us about how the car fares for space and practicality, Rebecca explores the new technology on offer and takes the Focus for a spin to see if it's still one of the most involving family cars to drive.

    Good video. Yes have mine on order since November. St line vignale 155hp and automatic. And with all option boxes ticked. Can’t wait. There are scratchy plastics in every car no matter what you pay. Build quality is on par with VW and has a better look. Great car.

      @septime great to read that :) What were the other cars you were interested in before you made the final decision? I was looking at Honda HRV Ehev which I almost went for, and I also looked at Renault Arkana and VW TRoc but I'm glad I didn't go for them.

    Great review of an outstanding hatch. Ford has its highlights and lowlights, but this is a strong effort. I wish we had the plethora of choices for cars here in the states that you enjoy over there. All we get is a whole lot of SUVs and trucks and so few estates and hatches. I'd feel like a kid in a candy store if I lived over there and was in the market for a new daily driver. Anywho, great video CG! Love all your content and expertise on the subject of new cars. I agree that much too much function and features are being relegated to touch screens when physical buttons and dials and just so much more sensible and less distracting. I hope the industry catches on and soon!

    I have the 2020 Focus, it’s been a great car for me. Effortless power from the 2.0 Diesel engine, 53 mpg currently. I ticked all the options and they all really work well, but the B&O sound system is outstanding, a must have.

      let us know how much you will spend on it in the Garage getting things fixed over the next 8 years, I got a ten year old focus and it only has 80,000 kilometers. so far I have replaced the steering rack, then the heater core failed and after that the camshaft position sensor failed, the check engine light has come on 5 times in the last year,water was also leaking into the rear hatch compartment....Fords build quality is cheap and not made to last

    I have this in the estate model at 125 hp and I absolutely love it, it’s definitely a drivers car and definitely doesn’t feel like such a small engine and the engine noise and exhaust system reminds me of the Subaru Impreza. As for the touch screen I was a bit sceptical at first but everything now so easy and second nature. I can personally highly recommend the focus st line Vignale.

      Hey, I'm picking up the Active Vignale estate MHEV Auto 125 next week. Currently driving the 2019 Active X Estate Auto 155.

    • @PiperX1X
      @PiperX1X Год назад +1

      @@RonnieMain absolutely awesome Ronnie, there’s no way anyone would think that it’s an 1.0 ltr car, it goes like stink it really does and I’m still getting a smile on my face every time I push the start button. I’ve just this week gone over 1000 miles and it’s been averaging between 38 and 41 mpg, I live in the country with quite a few hills so I’d expect anyone on the flat will probably get a few more. I have spinal problems and I find it really comfortable and can adjust my seat with ease with just the push of a few buttons. My one and only gripe is that the petrol filler cap doesn’t lock and any person wanting free fuel will be able to help themselves so I’d suggest if you can when you park up is to park close to a solid structure so they can’t get access to the filler cap.

    • @RonnieMain
      @RonnieMain Год назад

      @@PiperX1X Hey, really appreciate your reply here, you've answered my question well.
      Regarding the fuel cap, I thought this with my 2019 Focus Active X but if you lock the car, there's a small trap moves over about a foot down in the filler pipe to stop fuel theft.

    A superb car! I have the Titanium model mild hybrid 125 auto. You mention a jerky driving experience when the mild hybrid system is operating? Well I don't find that at all! It is seamless and smooth in its operation. Maybe your test car had an issue? The sync 4 is also excellent, and having most of the controls built into it really is not an issue, you get used to it very quickly. It certainly gives you a very attractive and uncluttered looking cabin.

    It’s nice to see a car rather than a people carrier branded an SUV, crossover or the utterly nonsense coupe. Given its low weight and small frontal area it is no doubt a fun car. Likely to become more relevant when the life of petrol cars is extended from 2030 to 2035 in order that synthetic petrol fuels can be rolled out so people don’t get stuck by having to buy an EV. Although, as Ford won’t actually sell you this car today, I doubt they’ll still be in the UK by then.

And the Octavia has way more space inside, including a much bigger boot.... and £30k gets you well up the trim levels with an Octavia. You would get the 1.5 turbo engine too, which can take the Octavia to the far side of 130 mph....it's one of the better petrol engines around just now.

    To be honest this looks like a downgrade from the pre facelift version. Why do they removed the physical buttons for the climate(replaced them with volume knobs??)? that is so dumb especially when you are using CarPlay or Android Auto and you need to be constantly changing between the two "Operating Systems". And the mild-hybrid is so useless as well, only brings complexity and worst brake pedal feel the fuel gains are marginal don't even make up for the price of the system itself. Talking about price, makes no sense, the car should be priced around low 20s, it is a very nice car with good sound insulation but not a luxury vehicle in any shape or form. If you want my advice save some quid and buy the pre-facelift model.
