    I would love to have a print out of the two parts ! We are performing this chart this year. I see you wrote them in a different key then the original and it makes more sense to me as a Trumpet player !

    Wow dude, incredible work! I noticed in one of your previous videos that you use an SM57 to record these, and I use one of those as well to record trumpet. What kind of positioning and placement do you use to get the best sound? I usually find that my recordings come out a bit thin. Also, I was wondering what mpc/horn you use.

    • @hughpenner5051
      @hughpenner5051  2 года назад +3

      Thanks! Make sure your bell is always pointed directly at the mic (as it is a directional mic), about 1.5 - 2 feet away, and adjust gain levels to what is appropriate based on what you’re playing. If you’re playing lead, turn the gain down to maybe halfway on the interface or maybe a little bit more if the bell is close, and if you’re just playing the staff not too loud, turn the gain up to halfway or a little more. What interface do you use?
      Btw I use a Bobby Shew Lead mouthpiece for lead and a Stork 2b for anything else, and a Yamaha YTR-8335LA trumpet

      @@hughpenner5051 Ok cool, thanks for the advice! Maybe i’ve just been too close to the mic, I’ll test it out next time I record.
      I have a bobby shew lead, but I’m actually not much of a fan of it. I can definitely get some insane screaming done on it, but I have a hard time making any sound on it between middle E and B above the staff. I use a custom 6s New York (made by Greg Black) for lead and Lubemaster 3 by Monster Oils for concert band stuff. Never tried a stork mouthpiece before, but they look pretty good.
      Yamaha horns are pretty nice, never played on that model specifically though. I’ve been using a Bach Strad 37 that my school has for a couple years now, but I just placed a bid on a FE olds & sons standard trumpet from the mid 1950’s, hopefully I win.
      And again, you sound really great, I can’t wait to see what you do in the future!

      Thank you! I just make sure to play up there everyday and be consistent in my practice. Play along to songs you like with high notes, and try to play them as best as you can (even if you completely airball them) just try and aim for a squeak, and play the notes you CAN reach with a big, full sound. 👍
