    I dont know what to think of it but one thing is for certain, the more influence a player has over a manager when he is producing an inconsistent performance after another it will build up to player power, I might be right or wrong but nevertheless a public dressing down is not fully a bad thing it should serve as a good thing to show the fans that it's not always the manager who doesn't get things right or performs well, the players are culpable too.

    Yeah, the job is to help the players to improve when they are down, not to kick them while they are down.
    It’s why Roy Keane failed as a manager, because all he did was kick the players while they were down. It’s also why Mourinho hasn’t been doing as well as he used to since his last season with Chelsea in 2015.
    The only time you actually lay down the law and actually start grilling the players, is when the behaviour issues are not right with the players, like being lazy, being late to training, focusing on their image rather than football etc etc.

    "I've got fans questioning me", I think that's truly awful to go in your players like that in a public interview just out of pettiness. I can see why the players aren't playing for him if this is the standard Deeney sets for the players.

    • @ravecrab
      @ravecrab 10 месяцев назад

      It's not just pettiness. It's not being able to handle management. When you become a manager in any field, you take responsibility for the work of people underneath you who are generally less experienced and often less able or motived than you. And when they screw things up, the boss or the client or (in this case) the fans come complaining to *you* about it. I've seen tough-talking blokes like Deeney step up into management roles and lose their head as soon as things go wrong. It's one thing to be a good pro and control your own work. It's totally different to manage others and get the best out of them. Based on this evidence, Deeney isn't cut out for it.

    Firstly, let's be clear, Troy Deeney was never a 'top player'. It would be generous to describe his figures as average.
    He was always a player who talked a big game but didn't necessarily back that up and it looks like he's taken that into management.
    No huge surprise there.

    You may not like the tactic, but this is where a guy like Jose Mourinho absolitely excelled as a manager and had a knack of distracting how poor Chelsea or a Chelsea player were on the day by saying something outrageous about the opposing team, the referee, the state of the pitch, literally anything else to draw attention away from his team and their performance.

    basically by coming out to the public like this you're only doing it to try and convince the public it's not your fault. he's talking to the forest green owners and not the player. if he's done this behind closed door then he doesn't need to come out in public. mud sticks at the end of the day and we all know troy deeney wouldn't take that when he was a player.

    It’s the managers job to improve the player. If the player/s continues not to improve then the manager is failing at his job by not improving him or replacing him. Simple really.
    What if a player publically criticises their manager for being hopeless, is that acceptable?
