Martin is old skool. He is fair and honest and above all wise. Wisdom is a rare commodity these days, especially in football. Shankly, Clough, Sir Bobby and Ferguson all had it. More than just football managers and leaders of men… they had principles.

Martin learned from the great Brian Clough ,somebody like Troy could learn so much from Martin . I always thought Troy was a bit head,but he showed great humility here .Think that proves he wants to learn .
Troy admits he shouldn't have gone public with his comments, but hearing what a shambles it was there in general i.e players turning up late regularly etc, how some are now working in Tesco...for a guy who got a premier league career on graft and hard work rather than on ability, you can see why he felt like he did.
Damien Duff recently blasted one of his players from shelbourne to the press . It had a positive effect and everyone praised Duff . They went on to win their 1st league title in 15 years
That's a small bit different as Duff was talking rubbish to the press every week. Almost everyone had ignored him by this stage. And they nearly ended up losing the league in the end

But he's not cut out for managing lower league sides because he definitely thinks those guys are beneath him. He won't have the humility for it, which Martin was subtly trying to advise him.
A lot of ex top flight pros make the mistake of thinking they can improve the ability of players in the lower leagues. It's about organizing them, keeping them fit, playing to their strengths and keeping it simple.

Most of the time they will have great knowledge they could pass on, but they're so superior in their outlook and don't care about the players. I'm not a Wycombe fan, but back in the 1990's I used to go as I lived near Adams Park and am a 'football' fan. I can honestly say that after watching literally thousands of live games over the then 40 years of attending matches, I have never enjoyed watching football as much as this period. This was all down to Martin O'Neil's management contribution. He was simply brilliant. Thanks for the memory Martin.

Deeney went from it being a footballing issue to a personal issue, I know that had I been a player in that dressing room I’d have lost all faith and respect for him, i think we all would have, like Martin said say anything you want behind closed doors, if the players cant take in criticism then it’s on them. I think I was one of the only people who defended Troy Deeney when he made those comments about that player. And I still don't really see what the problem/issue was. Like if he later came out and maybe backtracked on what he originally said then that's down to him but my stance was more "He hasn't killed anyone has he? He spoke his mind and answered a question that was put to him." I really like Troy and yea I suppose maybe he would handle thing differently now which good on him if he's reflecting on something he did and can hold his hands up and say he could of gone about it better. But in life WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES and learning/changing/growing is also part of the journey. I'm not too sure if we will ever see him in the dugout again to be quite honest. That's not really based on anything it's just every person you meet on the street thinks they would be good in management and I get the impression that most ex players that go into coaching get a rude awakening because its probably a lot more complex and stressful than any of us can imagine.
