CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Golfing near the ROTC, Otter (Tim Matheson) and Boon (Peter Riegert) are outraged by the sight of an officer abusing their pledge.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director John Landis put himself on the map with this low-budget, fabulously successful comedy, which made a then-astounding 62 million dollars and started a slew of careers for its cast in the process. National Lampoon's Animal House is set in 1962 on the campus of Faber College in Faber, PA. The first glimpse we get of the campus is the statue of its founder Emil Faber, on the base of which is inscribed the motto, "Knowledge Is Good." Incoming freshmen Larry "Pinto" Kroger (Tom Hulce) and Kent "Flounder" Dorfman (Stephen Furst) find themselves rejected by the pretentious Omega fraternity, and instead pledge to Delta House. The Deltas are a motley fraternity of rejects and maladjusted undergraduates (some approaching their late twenties) whose main goal -- seemingly accomplished in part by their mere presence on campus -- is disrupting the staid, peaceful, rigidly orthodox, and totally hypocritical social order of the school, as represented by the Omegas and the college's dean, Vernon Wormer (John Vernon). Dean Wormer decides that this is the year he's going to get the Deltas expelled and their chapter decertified; he places the fraternity on "double secret probation" and, with help from Omega president Greg Marmalard (James Daughton) and hard-nosed member Doug Neidermeyer (Mark Metcalf), starts looking for any pretext on which to bring the members of the Delta fraternity up on charges. The Deltas, oblivious to the danger they're in, are having a great time, steeped in irreverence, mild debauchery, and occasional drunkenness, led by seniors Otter (Tim Matheson), Hoover (James Widdoes), D-Day (Bruce McGill), Boon (Peter Riegert), and pledge master John "Bluto" Blutarsky (John Belushi). They're given enough rope to hang themselves, but even then manage to get into comical misadventures on a road trip (where they arrange an assignation with a group of young ladies from Emily Dickinson University). Finally, they are thrown out of school, and, as a result, stripped of their student deferments (and, thus, eligible for the draft). They decide to commit one last, utterly senseless (and screamingly funny) slapstick act of rebellion, making a shambles of the university's annual homecoming parade, and, in the process, getting revenge on the dean, the Omegas, and everyone else who has ever gone against them.

TheCoolProfessor Les Enfants Terribles in 1972. :D
Scott Lange in twilight zone the movie.....vic morrow scene....one of the soldiers says "I told you guys we shouldn't have killed Lt. niedermeyer"
mike de carlo DAMN! I never connected that. John Landis directed both. 😂😂
Then again, the music video for Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" suggests that reports of his death have been exaggerated.
Metcalf took Douglas C. Neidermeyer to the next level with the twisted sister songs.
Yeah, that's a great music video
How many think 'Animal House' is the funniest movie ever made? I think it gets my vote! This scene, Otter's defense at the student court, the ending scene with all the chaos in the streets, the toga party, shopping in the grocery store, Otter making it with the dean's wife, zero point zero GPA for Bluto, it's a zit, the fraternity rushing scene - all these scenes get me every time!
And the Otis Day/Dexter Lake Club scenes!

Yes. There are literally hundreds of lines and dozens of scenes that have been quoted and referenced. Without a doubt, the BEST comedy ever!!!
Neidermeyer's screaming as the horse drags him down the field; man, that does it for me every time.
MichaelD8393 His foot was still in the stirrup when it happened.
💯percent agree😂😂😂 the most purest laugh of complete peace ensues.
Neidermeyer deserved that horseback ride sliding on his back and to be paralyzed.
Francisco Rodriguez He didn't get paralyzed. He just had a big neck brace for a while.
IKR
Dad: “I carried an M-16 in Vietnam, and you carry that...guitar!”
Kid: “At least I won’t get shot by my own bandmates.”
Hahahaha I know EXACTLY what you're talking about SMF forever
Fun fact: the actor who plays Neidermeyer lied to the producers about his ability to ride a horse. After he got the part, he quickly enrolled himself in equestrian classes and showed up able to ride.
That cause he's not WORTHLESS AND WEAK!!
They all lie about being able to ride a horse. Kevin Pollak's joke about it is when asked, respond with "My saddle's in my trunk".
Well, he’s not riding it
"He can't do that to our pledges!" "Only WE can do that to our pledges!"
Classic!!!
one of many frav line have done the hole frat life in college
Classic no one picks on my brother but me LOL
😂
As a former FRAT Boy: There is actually a lot of Truth to That Statement…!!!!🤣😂🤣😂
🤣🤣🤣
RIP Stephen Furst , who played Dorfman / Flounder. He was so great in this movie.
Stephen Furst actually played as the principal in Twisted Sister “I wanna rock” video
"Oh boy! Is this great?"
The fat ones are always the first to go.
Who’d a thought?
Also Vir Cotto on Babylon 5. He got what he wanted!
‘Oh boy, is this great!!”
That scene was later re-enacted in the "We're not gonna take it" videoclip by Twisted Sister

@@michaelwautraets7126 What is that ?!! A Twisted sister's pin, on your uniform ?!"
This movie and twisted sister take place in the same universe.
THANK YOU MR OBVIOUS!!!
The troops that killed him in the friendly fire incident deserve the Medal of Honor
More like fragging.
You can count on nobody telling CID what really happened there. "Heavy fire, came out of nowhere! We think he was captured!" (Wound up at the bottom of a mud-bog tied to several big rocks.)
Naw, that was misreported. Heavily injured but got better, returned home, married this poor unlucky woman, brutally raised several unfortunate kids, then met an untimely death at the hands of TWISTED SISTER!
I love that he talks like a combination of Sylvester the Cat and Daffy Duck
I doubt it was friendly fire. I would think it was very intentional.
is that a twisted sister pin on your uniform??
TWWIISSTTED SIISSTTER
what kind of a man are you
you're worthless and weak
Just now got that, didja?
I've been watching that video my entire life - i've never seen Animal House though so this was really fun to basically see THAT character again xD
This is the first time after all these years that I finally made a connection between this scene and the cafeteria food fight scene. In this scene one of the fraternity brothers makes a bad shot with a golf ball, which goes through the kitchen window and into the soup. Then in the cafeteria scene, John Belushi finds the golf ball in a bowl of soup and eats it.
I like how the lunch lady doesn't flinch in the slightest like it happens every day.
“IS THAT A TWISTED SISTER PIN ON YOUR UNIFORM!!!!!”
He never says that
@@GentlemanGaGa29 Same actor plays the father in the "We're Not Gonna Take It" music video.
"I GOT A GOOD MIND TO SLAP YOUR FAT FACE!!!"
That's funny!
what that on your chest?its a pledge pin sir!a pledge pin on your uniform?
When the golf ball goes through the deans window and breaks his pitcher of water lmfao
He was thinking, what the hell happen to my water cup.
I know Right!!!
"You're a god damn disgrace." LMAO CLASSIC
He can't do that to our pledges! Only WE can do that to our pledges.
"Dress that line, mister!"
Once Neidermeyer sees Flounder
One of my favorite lines!!
“A vicious mother isn’t he”
How in the world did Stephen Furst keep a straight face during the entire "ATTENTION" sequence??
A LOT of re-takes!
ACTING!
Good acting 🙂
'Cuz the casting director chose really great actors for this film.
Good acting or at least 5 takes. Think about staring at paint dry during the scene instead of Neidermeyer trying to be a tough guy...
A pledge pin on your uniform! My favorite line in the whole movie!
"They can't do that to our pledges.....only we can do that to our pledges!"
"A PLEDGE PIN?? ON YOUR UNIFORM?!?!"
"You're all worthless and weak. Now drop and give me twenty!"
So many classic lines in one scene alone. That's how you know it's one of the greatest films of all time
And one of them would later be used again by a rock group named Twisted Sister.
@@LucasBradleylpbproductions6 "A Twisted Sister Pin?! On YOUR UNIFORM!"

I will laugh at "A PLEDGE PIN" forever.
Frats actually stopped issuing pledge pins cause of this scene
It's good to see that the Maestro from Seinfeld did a lot better than his college days...
“A PPPPPLEDGE PPPIN?! ON YOUR UNIFORM??!!”
😂 'dont think of it as work.....the whole point is just to enjoy yourself.' 😂
"The whole point is just to enjoy yourself" And that's exactly what i do every time i see this scene
"You're all worthless and weak !! " The jumping jacks and music were too funny ....
I've been living here in Eugene for 34 years where they filmed this. They just recently opened what they called Delta House back up for another fraternity. It was boarded up for many many years
No did they show pictures of ITIT's an entirely different building now
The look on his face when that golf ball hits him in the head is priceless lmfao
Funny thing about the pajamas. When I was in elementary school back in the 60s, there were a few kids that wore pajamas under their clothes to school. I never understood why. And when I saw this scene at the theatre i broke out laughing.
When I was little in order to get to my sons private school ( using the school bus system ) the kids had to get up at scone ungodly hour to start the morning routine.
"WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WITH YOU'RE LIFE"
I wanna rock! (RAH!)
I wanna rock! < plays loud power chord on guitar >
You are life?
Hahahaha lol "twisted sister-we're not gonna take it" reference

Who knew from such humble beginnings that Flounder would one day become the Emperor of the Centauri Empire.

"PLEDGE PIN" with a mouth full of spit 😂😂😂😂
I started my freshman year in college when this movie came out. I was laughing so hard I was gasping. And in my junior year I also joined the army ROTC.
I went to Kent State almost 20 years after the fateful day in history, the whole grounds for this film looking fun at the ROTC.
Without yiur pledge pin
Why in gods name would you join ROTC junior year?
Also, do you remember that poster all the college kids had? Showed Bluto looking all disheveled with the caption, "Bluto for President 1980. Was in all the poster stores and novelty shops. Seemed real funny at the time.
And tuck up those pajamas, dammit!!!
Did you have to report to the stables at 19:00 hours?
I came here to watch this again because I heard Stephen Furst (who was Flounder in this movie) passed away this weekend.
Poor Flounder.
Bullied by that asshole Neidermeyer.
Well, at least he get's his ass kicked by Twisted Sister...
Twice.
R.I.P. Stephen Furst.
You were awesome as Kent "Flounder" Dorfman & you will be missed.
One of the few movies I can watch over an over an over again. Classic.
They both definitely look like they’re about to burst out laughter!!
Would have loved to have seen the outtakes
Agreed!!!
the actor who played Niedemeyer was the "Maestro" on Seinfeld

david graham As well as The Master on Buffy the Vampire Slayer :)
+Jeffrey Fairfield Together with the soldier he was freaking out on, as a matter of fact, in that video clip he gets back at him for this.
he was also "The Master" on the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Mark Metcalf...
"They can't do that to our pledges."
"Only we can do that to our pledges."
Exactly the attitude my frat brothers had in college.
It was true. Only they were allowed to shove you around. Kinda like a big brother. In their own way, that is how they showed they cared.
You're damned right! Your brothers wouldn't do anything too terrible, mostly just cut you back down to size if you got a bit big for your britches.
That said, if some outsider tries it, then they don't have the history required, and you have every right to beat the living daylights out of them before turning back to your brother(s) and saying 'now then, where were we? Oh, right,' and get back to whaling on each other.
I love Mark( Neidemeyer) in this scene, way to funny. 30 years later and this movie is still very funny. Doug Kenny was a comic genius, he plays stork in the movie. It's too bad he wasn't here with us today, He would of changed the face of Hollywood.
Mark Metcalf, also made an appearance in a "Seinfeld" episode, as "The Maestro" with that same elitist-sounding attitude of a "leader."
LOL! "...and God dammit tuck up those pajamas!!!" Maybe my favorite line of the movie. Always makes me laugh.
It should've been "Tuck IN those pajamas!"
Pathetic excuse for an ROTC Cadet Commander. No wonder he was fragged.
@P Nis Someone need to be a trainer and guiding-officer for the cadets. This scene was too much in trivia. Someone will laugh, but not me.
He was the greatest ROTC Commander ever.
He was great in the Twisted Sister videos.
I wished they still made movies as funny as this:-(.
They were saying the same thing in 1973. Trust me, I was there.
Look carefully at 1:53. On the right, you’ll see a hand holding a slingshot. That was used to make the golf ball crash through the window and into Dean Wormer’s pitcher.
Good catch
I just read the Goofs section on IMDB and just now saw the slingshot… crazy stuff
Otter was a freakin’ marksman with a golf club. What the heck was he doing in Pre-Law/Pre-Med? He could’ve been a Tour pro!
Best. Comedy. Ever. Period.
No doubt about it
Otter's turtleneck and plaid pants make this scene. So do the golf ball's journey to Wormer's glass and the soup.
Another slice.
This whole comment section is on "double secret probation."
@DeafGhostbuster Toga! Toga!!!
What a tool
I heard he was shot by members of his own platoon.
A friendly fire that Neidermeyer truly deserved.
He was assaulted by seven four-year olds with water pistols!!! LMFAO4EVER!!!!!!!
A pledge pin? On your uniform? Lol! 😆
1:25, A PLEDGE PIN?! ON YOUR UNIFORM?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Senator and Mrs. John Blutarsky, forever etched in memory. Just a great movie.
"You're all worthless and weak!" The army sure knew how to motivate in those days.
I went to college '72 to '76 and although Animal House was probably meant for mid 60's, my experience was just about the same as Delta House. Half the guys were not college materiall, most all were athletes. We did graduate law, business and a few not many that became doctors. Poor Dean.
I’ve reached the point in life where I can be at work & simply think about this and start laughing out loud & feeling better.
Getting old has its advantages
possibly the greatest classic comedy of all time!
Flounder's uniform....I like how they made it fit poorly on purpose...for comedy
Apparently you were never in ROTC......😅
A PLETHDGE PIN!

Dan Roy that’s that guy form that music video we’re not gonna take it
One of the best scenes in the whole movie in my opinion.
Mark Metcalfe is hilarious.
Sadly, in our pc culture, they will never come close to making movies this funny again.
I’m sure we can. We just have to make like the Deltas, to not be afraid of anything.
Blazing Saddles too .
I can't watch this anymore without thinking about Twisted Sister!

I can see why Neidermeyer was killed by his own troops during the Vietnam War. In this scene, he calls his troops worthless and weak. At the end, he calls them a word that rhymes with maggot. I don't blame his troops for killing him if that's how he treats them.
Now the Twisted Sister videos make way more sense to me! Somehow I've never seen this movie before
