My work life has been very diverse; from Driving Big-Rig Trucks, to Computer Programming, from running a Health Food Store, to Being a Baker, from various retail jobs to Driving a City Bus. Each job was educational, and helped me discover a good deal about myself. Although I went to college, and while I ended up with enough credits to get a degree, (because my higher education experience was from a collection of different colleges and universities) they never tied together in a way that allowed me to get a that BA degree. I do not regret that at all. My life has been rich and full, and since I retired 2 1/2 years ago, I have been enjoying doing various projects around the house and yard. Minor construction and electrical work, gardening, some creative wood working, and more. Your diverse work life and cultural background are, I am sure, part of why you are able to make the most of your current challenging situation. I know you have what it takes to make your life better and better as you and Brian move forward along your adventurous path. All the best.

Hello Ana , I’m 60 and have had lots of different jobs … one thing lead to another I guess starting with a teaching assistant job, then a nanny, then a family visitor , then I ran a Nightshelter for the homeless, then I worked in a food bank , a debt clinic , then a vegan cafe . Now I work in a book shop . You couldn’t make it up ! I think the common theme has been helping people and I still try to do that now but at the same time I am writing my first novel and because of my varied career I have lots of stories to tell .
Thank you for your channel, I have watched you from the beginning but never commented before ❤

I think the thing that makes teaching a surprisingly good fit for introverts is that our social role at work is clearly defined and that you essentially work independently. The downside is that if you are an HSP the compassion fatigue can really hit hard depending on the situation.
Beautiful how you distilled your experiences into a work life that suits you so well, and we are so grateful that you did too!

I also have tried different jobs. I very much enjoyed working with the elderly in a nursing home. I did that while my children were young. It is a most rewarding job, but heartwrenching to lose those I had cared for every day and become so close to. I worked in a doctor's office for a few years. Loved the paperwork- hated that damn phone! I would volunteer for the tasks no one else wanted to do just to get out of having to answer the constant demands. That's how I became the Medical Records person. I could be by myself in the file room. It is true that I spent most of my time unjamming the scanner or feeding pages into the fax machine one at a time, but I didn't mind because it kept me away from the very hectic front desk.

I taught special needs children for 4 years. It was like an old-fashioned one room school house since they were all different ages. I liked teaching but hated "school, " i.e. the rules, the paperwork, the politics, etc. I finally ended up giving private music lessons and that one-on-one experience lasted many years and was my all-time favorite "job."

I was a teacher for kids with special needs, too!! 24 years. And I left for the same reason. If I could have just worked with kids, I’d never have left.

Dear Ana. It was quite interesting to listen to your work experience. Respect to you, as you tried out many jobs. And I feel with you. I'm also an introvert and I work my whole life in an office. And I changed places, but what most places had in common was somehow a toxic environment. It was rarely the work itself I had problems with, but it was and still is the office politics and especially nasty co-workers, mostly in my department. It's quite stressful and I try to protect myself by not getting too muched involved, but it's not easy to detach. I feel like a grape in the morning, but in the evening after a working day I feel like a raisin 😅. But we all need to pay bills and thank god, not all is bad. Thank you and I wish you all the very best 🙏

My path is slightly different, but it had many similar features 😅. I am a classically trained musician and have worked so many different jobs in the music field, as well as a few random jobs just as means to survive.
Some of my musician jobs have been:
1.playing violin and viola- in orchestras; in a wedding house; in hotels around Asia; gigs with many different musicians and ensembles
2.teaching- violin, viola, piano, general musicianship, music theory (teaching all ages individually and in groups, privately and all kinds of institutions from junior schools to adult college)
      3.conducting
      4.busking
      Random jobs:
      1. bar job
      2. catering
      3. security
      4.cleaning
      5. domestic warden…I might have missed some
All of these jobs taught me something and enriched my life in some ways!

I am almost 40 and can't remember how many different jobs I've had but it's been a variety. I wish I knew what job is a good fit for me, this video helps me. The aptitude tests at employment centres never give results I am particularly interested in. For now I am considering becoming a librarian, but that means getting a masters and my bachelors took me 10 year from start to finish, and included some breaks.

Sometimes I enjoy my work, other times I am bored. I too am an introvert so looking for another job is out of the question at my age, yet I still need to work as the bills need paid. I look at my life and wish I had of found a job I really enjoyed instead of enduring them.

Although many people don't end up in a career that's directly related to their degree, I bet most people do use a lot of the transferrable skills that they developed during their education -- critical thinking, writing for various audiences, public speaking/presentation skills, research skills, working in group and individual settings, project management, and so on. I think those are at least as important as the subject-specific knowledge that we learn!

I very much enjoyed this Video, learning more about you as well as ur jewelry designs and bags, I am an on hands learner when it comes to practical learning, which makes it difficult for me to "learn" to paint art.
Ur work choices are smart and greatly admired. You obviously have great smarts.
I don't know if you would ever be willingly to talk about living in Siberia, if its sad or painful or triggering, NO. I am curious how people stay warm, heating, food, churches or not, community, work. I've had a passion to learn these things since I saw a tv program years ago w/folks on a train to Siberia, they had their meals, playing cards, vodka, maybe even cooked on train. It took for ever for them to arrive and the Video ended. Being from the Southern USA, I can hardly tolerate the cold.
Anyway, always my best to you and Brian, you bring hope in this world.

Research studies, day jobs IIn addition, I even went to American Doll (an expensive toy with accesories and even restuarant for girls) that a line of applicants around the block! Hi Ana, fascinating to hear about your long and varied job experiences. In my working years I probably had about 10 jobs. The first was teaching jazz at an international music school on the east coast of the U.S. I met students from all over the world and was given a lot of freedom to teach as I wanted. I was there for 8 years, but just couldn't take the cold weather and living in a big urban city (noisy, dangerous). so I moved back to CA where I had grown up. After a few years of trial and error I found part time work as a computer operator for a health insurance firm and freelanced playing music at several local restaurants and for private functions. Again, I had the freedom at both endeavors to work/perform as I wanted. Along the way I also had a couple of "side hustles" making and selling Chinese Dim Sum treats and building websites for musicians, writers, body work specialists, and other "creatives" across the country. I loved it. With gratitude I now enjoy a calm, secure, and meaningful old age.

Of course that presented and still presents a moral dilemma for me, but in the situations where I couldn't find another source of income, I took the jobs that were available to me. Many people can't choose, unfortunately. With the way jobs economy works right now, there's not enough options to make a living by quitting the consumerist system. This issue is far more complicated 😅
