It really is not only Brian May’s Red Special but also the Deacy Amp John built that really allowed Brian to achieve so many orchestral sounds.

This song was always performed as a duet by Freddie and Brian at the front of the stage. It would make a huge stadium feel intimate, and fans from all over the world learned their part. I suggest you take a look at Rock in Rio 1985 for an amazing example. It is still performed today. Brian sings it in the midst of the audience, with Freddie appearing on a screen. I saw them in Boston two months ago and it is still an emotional experience. Another nice reaction!

Hiya Betsey, hope you don't mind me messaging you, have seen you a few times in comments and always agree with what you say. I'm way down in New Zealand, they only came here once with Freddie in 84, I was too young. They've been here three times with Adam, I've caught them twice. Managed to take my son (12 then), he loves Brian. I thank Adam so much for helping them tour again. Two of the best experiences of my life, Brian's guitar is the loudest thing I've ever heard. Cheers, see you in the messages.

@@coreywilliams923 I never got to see them with Freddie either, regrettably. But those 'two old ladies' can still rock pretty hard and Adam helps them keep doing it!🤩🎸🎤🥁

I love seeing this song live with just Freddie and Brian on stage, it's one of the best moments because at each show the audience's reaction is different. And as a Brazilian, I simply love the performance of this song at Rock in Rio 85, it was magical. This is one of those rare songs that was the live album that turned into a huge hit

Both times I saw Queen, Freddie knelt on the apron of the stage and hold the microphone over the audience. It was really a magical moment.

Freddie wanted a harp in the song and gave the job to Brian. Freddie said I'll make Brian play till his fingers fall off (learning it) Brian said he had to tune it Everytime someone opened the door the temperature change caused it to get out of tune, he said it was a nightmare. It's a beautiful song .

Freddie said, I want a harp on this track, and Brian did it. This tells me, how much they appreciated each other.

As Steve Vai once concluded, trying to unsuccessfully emulate Brian's sound by playing his guitar, 'all magic is in his fingers'. I love studio version of Love of my life, it is very unusual and Chopinesque. Its puzzling how this Persian guy that was brought up in Africa and Asia, had such a knack for tipically european modes of music.

This is a very beautiful song and a fan favorite. People all over the world would sing this song as Freddie directed the crowd, even in places where English was not their language, they knew all the words to this one.

Man, the way Brian can make his Red Special become a cello, or woodwind instrument, has allways boggled me. Such a master of tone and sustain.

You need to see the live Rock in Rio 1985 version to appreciate how big this song was in South America. 300,000 plus Brazilians singing the entire song in English with Freddie conducting and joining in at times. Truly unbelievable

Rock in Rio 1985 was the largest audience and their reaction to this song is truly worth your time.… massive audience singing back to Freddie and Brian in English … not their language. ✌🏼

Love of My Life became a classic more because of Queen's live performances than because of the track on the album. The song became one of the highlights of the shows precisely because of the audience participation. It may seem strange, but Love of My Life became more intimate with Freddie on vocals, Brian on guitar and thousands of fans in the chorus. Although my favorite version is from the Live Killers album (1979), the performances at Wembley (1986) and Rock in Rio (1985) follow closely.

Knowing Love Of My Life is almost mandatory to being a QUEEN fan.😁 Also, if i am not mistaken, Red Special has an extra half an octave then normal guitars.

Beautiful. Again, so much to say. This song is the perfect example of how they can rearrange a song to play live and make it different while keeping the heart of the song. Rio 85 is my pick for best live performance. 250,000 voices serenading Freddie. You're gonna love what Freddie and John do in the intro for "Millionaires Waltz" on next album. Also, I assume you know that Brian designed and built the Red Special himself? Big part of his uniqueness (with help from the Deacy) 🎸

Brian May cannot be duplicated because he built the guitar with his dad and the amp head unit was built by Deacon (electrical engineer) by fiddling around with a radio, I think it was a secondhand vintage Motorola. "Deaky-tone".

thanks for listening to the original.. Freddie wrote it for piano, and of course they have great harmonies.. Brian learned to play harp just for this song.. it's been so well done live.. mostly as a duet with Brian on 12-string and Freddie on vocals.. most people don't even know how brilliant the original version is... appreciate your reactions...

You mentioned you hadnt heard it,but im sure you have heard it live, where the crowd sang most of it.Great vocal.
Speaking of Paul Rodgers, this is a tough task... Queen,of all bands,to jump in as a blues based singer. He didnt sing most of the Freddie songs, thankfully. This was written for and about gf Mary Austin, one of the few facts the movie got right.

Brian's guitars were the primary inspiration for me to play. This quest expanded when I heard Hackett, Belew, Metheny and Andy Summers.
