John Deacon played the acoustic guitar in addition to bass in this song.

I love this song .. there’s something whimsically romantic about some of Brian’s compositions, but seriously, “Father To Son” is from the perspective of a father talking to or about his son. The lyrics that really touch my soul 👉 “But my letter to you will stay by your side .. Thru the years ‘till the loneliness is gone .. Sing if you will .. But the air you breathe, I live to give you .. Father to son” 🥺

The amp is called Deacy (C as K), cause made by Deacon John))) Brian is still uses it for studio work! John also made a treble booster for Brian, but he used it for a short time and switched to another one!

"Father To Son" what a beautiful song with a beautiful message. Then it follows into "White Queen" which is another of my favorites. This whole album is just wonderful. Freddie was a natural baritone and later on when he did opera his singing partner urged him to sing in his natural tone. Thanks for doing this! Much appreciated.

So happy you are continuing through Queen's albums. I like how you analyse and comment. Actually your facial expressions speak volumes as you listen! Love it. ( just don't play poker).

Masterful mixing. This entire album. Their most perfect, clean, mix comes a couple albums later with Death On Two Legs.

Beautiful song that most likely springs from Brian's relationship with his own father. I do love this song though it is not one most people generally have heard unless you are an album person or went to Queen live shows.

Thanks for listening to a fantastic song from a great album one of Queen's greatest songs and nobody gets to hear it because they are listening to a song like a Crazy little thing called Love or something like that.

You really need to hear this live! There is plenty of volume for you at the Rainbow, always enhanced by Freddie's matchless performance art. I would love to hear your opinion after seeing that. But I appreciate the fact that you are doing this album so methodically.

Great observation. I think throughout the 70's, Freddie's voice was usually too low in the mix. I don't know why they did that, perhaps it was difficult with all of the overdubing and bouncing they were doing. Father To Son is far better live. There is a great live version at the Rainbow 1974. You have skipped a song from the first album Son & Daughter which does actually sound a lot like Black Sabbath. Brian May and Toni Iommi are extremely good friends. This album was an inspiration for many other artists, for power metal and symphonic type of metal, this album was released before the first Rainbow album. And also, very obviously for bands such as Muse, My Chemical Romance and The Smashing Pumpkins. I am not sure if this is Queen's heaviest album, Jazz is also quite heavy, as well as Queen's last album from 1991 Inuendo.

To be honest, they didn't have a sound engineer like Allan Parsons at Hand who could do the mastering. The recordings on the first two albums happened under bad conditions. Still Father to Son is in my top 3 songs from Queen. I still prefer this version over the life version. They went all in on this Album and it shows.

Interestingly Yes recorded a song called "Dear Father" from their 1970 sessions for the second album that's sort of a poppier version of this. But yeah, good comments about what a hellish mixing job this must have been. IMO it's pretty mushy, although it's also what a lot of glam rock sessions sounded like back then.

When I first heard this song I thought it was Yes until I realized it wasn't Jon Andersons voice.

Figured this tune was composed by tone master May. Queen was formed when Mercury (or Bulsara initially) joined Roger Taylor and Brian May prev. of Smile around 70ish? So, my sense is that May and Taylor seemingly had more influence in general early on? I began listening with "Sheer Heart Attack," and the songs appear to be more crafted for Mercury's 4 octave vocals/theatrical stylings....and Killer Queen, the biggest hit to date, was written by Freddie.

Can't think that the remastering has made it sound muffled? But it does to me. Sometimes Just leave that thing alone 😂

Excellent choice. Probably my favourite album or maybe Sheer Heart Attack. Although when I first bought Queen's first album it was so different and I was sold. I stopped at News of the World as thought too commercial. When I met my wife she had started at Jazz so between us we did have every one. LOL
