"I was going through a separation with my wife during the process of making the record. Fast forward to the present and we’re working it out now, but in the process of making this record, we were separated. I was at the end of my rope; I was in a lot of pain. This music is where I found my sanctuary, where I could express myself and just take myself out of it for a second and not feel the pain and just be creative. During the process of making this song, ‘Before I Die’ I felt like everything was taken from me and I was just left out there raw and broken, it made everything clear to me, what really mattered to me."
'Before I Die' is a key song for Shaddix as the vocalist says it spurred a change in his life. He explains, "At the end of the day it’s the people that I love in my life that are the most important to me and sometimes when you treat the people that you love the most the worst, that’s the wrong path. I had to take a long hard look at myself and realize how I was living my life and make those changes. Just being out there on my own and having those realizations, that’s where the song came from."

Papa Roach has very powerful words in his music. And that's what I love about these. Songs. This is one of my all time favorite bands.

People that are saying they miss the old Papa Roach and stuff like that, you can still listen to the old music it's still there. No one is making you listen to the new music. I personally love all of their songs.Their new music has a lot more meaning to the lyrics which makes the songs more powerful.

Jacoby writes the best lyrics... their music always manages to have a special meaning in me and make me feel so many emotions...
I remember listening to this the year this song was released. Over and over and over, and then I read Jacoby's reasoning behind the song and listen to it even more. I was hurting then but I was young and now I'm older and hurting now. I find it strangly soothing. I find myself back here knowing my mom might have leukemia. It's as soothing as I can get right now, and that's okay as long as I can enjoy it while it lasts. You guys don't know the impact this song had on me in 2012 and I'm surprised it hit as hard a decade later. thank you.

I have been listening to Papa roach since I was a kid but I am now 33 and I just came across this song for the first time today this song couldn't have came into my life at the perfect time this is a song I really needed to hear got me emotional just listening to this song and something I am dealing with my self in my life he never fails to amaze me just how talented he is I love how he always keeps it real

Listening to this after almost a year again and it takes me right back to the emptyness and loneliness I felt all the way to my soul. I thought I had made so much more self forgiveness and hearing this makes me feel like I haven't come far at all. Just reminds me of such self hatred and I've just been lying to myself all along. I know I need to get past this but I'm not sure how that is possible. I can't listen to it and feel such despair again. I'm praying for God's mercy and wisdom to show me a way back home again!!!!

I have been with Papa Roach since the beginning! I have met Jacoby 6 times and have NEVER EVER EVER missed a concert in my city that they played. I have every song they have on my phone and mp3 player. Papa Roach has gotten me through everything in my life and I love their music!

What can I say... Can't get any better than this PAPA ROACH
I've been listening to these guys since I was in grade 9 (infest). I am 27 now. Every single album I have loved. They have always keep the true to heart lyrics but changed their style of how they put it out. That takes a lot of risk to do that. You risk alienating the fans that made you famous that might not like your new sound at the benefit of bringing in new fans but I am glad they did it. Their music never gets stale imo I can put in any one of their cd's and not feel like its the same.

I was like 9 when I first heard Papa Roach, the first song I heard was Last Resort...They have matured and came one hell of a long way since they began, one of my all time favorite bands. They will always have a special place in my heart :D

I love their old music and their new stuff. I love them as a band but I also love their personalities and their attitudes towards what they do and the fans that they have. Sure, they've all been through some rough patches, I mean, who hasn't? But they've over come that and all of their new music showcases that perfectly. I'm so proud of them and they deserve so much more credit and recognition than they are given. Their music always has such meaning and depth to it and that's what I love most about it. I love these guys so much, every single one of them, and it's gotten to the point where I don't mind if their music is different than what it used to be, as long as they're enjoying what they do, then that's good enough for me. Many people need to realise that yes, they have changed a lot since Infest but a band will always change their sound every once in a while, it just depends on what your preferences are. But please, everyone is allowed an opinion, obviously, but don't insult other people just because they like the new music and you don't, or vice versa. Just enjoy the music if you love it, if not then that's fine too but don't ruin for those that come here to listen and enjoy and relate to the music.

I totally agree with you! One of the things I like the most about Papa Roach, is that they (together with Linkin Park) still remain after all those years, while people complained that nu-metal sucks etc. Does it? They still stand tall, so I bet those people were wrong!

I actually feel that papa roach is the only band that pulls of djent/new nu-metal right... When I first heard of this genre I thought wow prog rock under five minutes.. But didn't expect that most bands I found on the Internet are plagued by teen movie lyrics.. I got into PR after last resort era not during. Their songs are about rage and passion and the recently increased technicality does not diminish the emotional impact but makes it more real more fleshed out
